Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

Amata LireinNow then, back to some more regular topics: I wanted to ask people on their opinion about something that might be a bit controversial.

I assume that a lot of the fans of this genre also know about the "X"-series by German developer Egosoft. In parts 2 and 3 there is an NPC companion character named Saya Kho who is wearing, in her own words: "[...] a standard pilot uniform [...]". What I would like to ask now: Do you guys think that there could be a Remlock suit like it in E:D? *takes cover behind the nearest couch, just in case of rotten tomatoes flying my way*

Amata, unfortunately you wouldn't be able to have your hair like that because the Remlok is deployed in such a way that long hair is verboten. See Holo me hairstyles for details. I think that was even mentioned in the holome update.

As for the outfit, its up to you but I'd say its probably a no.

However, I do have a couple of lore based solution.

Alacarkmo skin art is a Rare good which can be programmed to produce various effects and uses a mixture of "bioengineering and micro electronics" make of that what you will. Personally I could see something better than a crop top and some space daisy dukes.

There is also a precedent for Nanotech with a couple of Rare goods. Ultra Compact Processors from 17 Lyrae clearly state nano tech as their method of production but don't say "it appears instantly" so maybe you are half there.

To go one better it seems we can also engineer things on an atomic level, as Tiegfries synth silk is produced by atomic colliders.

Other Rare goods hint at very complex bioengineering / viral engineering / thought transference so its fairly safe to say in the ED universe we can manipulate most things.

Clearly these are all Rare Goods and as such are notable by their uniqueness but I would think a member of the Pilots federation could build them into a story easily.

Hope this helps.

Ehmm... have you seen how long the hair of women can be in E:D?

22 Jun 2020, 3:56pm
Yep. Notable for being all about the same length. Doesnt look to be as long as the style in your original pic.

Maybe they added some more styles, who knows perhaps Remlok went back to the drawing board.

How do you feel about the other ideas?

Nerys Nymei
Amata Lirein
But so far I not even ONCE stated that my character is wearing it

Nerys would totally wear it.
Then she would dig a deep hole and throw herself in for the shame, but these are little details.

Amata Lirein
So can we PLEASE return to the question of what exactly the nanotech of E:D is capable of?

I have provided a medical example that I hope is believable and lore-compliant enough, but as usual I open to criticism and suggestions.

For what it's worth, I think what you referenced & wrote is totally plausible. I mean, even now in RL, today, there's discussions, research & development on nanotech. Now, I progress >1K years into the future, & seeing the exponential upwards curve on technology advancement in comparison to the prior 1K years... well, IMO what might be considered as virtually "God-Like" & "Magical" abilities seem possible that far into the future, & all this based on just what we have right here on Earth.

I like them a lot and they do sound reasonably realistic. I might come back to those if I have Amata pick up said suit.

And about the hair: My guess with pic 3 is that if you undo the ponytail it would totally be a bit longer then shoulder-length.

A C Ender
Synthya WylderAnd to add from 1 of my previous comments, it's my opinion that unless something is expressly forbidden in E:D Lore, it's therefore implied that it's permitted, although it's my own personal style to be prepared to back it up with a plausible explanation.

Are you talking about behaviour or technology? I would say that for the former you can go wild with whatever you can come up with: if you can think of it now, with the billions upon billions living in ED someone is probably doing it. I wouldn't agree that any technology that's not forbidden is implicitly allowed however.

Apply my keyword "plausible" as a qualifier.

here I am over here trying to post a new song and stuff when SUDDENLY... welp I guess we're having a kung fu fight then @Amata also im bad with colors lmfao
22 Jun 2020, 4:23pm
Well, since Imperial honor is, according to the devs, based on both Roman dignitas and Japanese Bushido and both demand that you should at least master some form of close-quarter combat I think the assumption that the same rule applies to Imperials is fair game

That being said: Just because you know martial arts does not mean you are invincable. But I do assume that Amata should be able to defend herself in a 1-vs-1 fight until either help arrives or the numbers turn against her.

I suppose I do a formal bow here then as a show of respect. This will be quite enjoyable.

There are other reasons skimpy space suits may not be viable. First and foremost it introduces multiple extra points of failure to something that when it fails likely kills you. How many pilots do you hear from that encounter faulty Remloks? How many would you hear from?

Personally I would have the helmet engaged as often as plausibly possible when in flight. I'd rather not have an unnecessary point of failure, let alone multiple.

Then there is the temperature of space and the stations docks etc. Environmental protection is pretty important too.

I've always assumed those generic facial scars that seem so common are a result of Remlok failure of one sort another. Either that or there is some form of duelling system that creates duelling scars on a regular basis.

Heh... I always assumed those were the result of exploding consoles
