Synthya WylderWas I sufficient in my explanation?

Absolutely!

But if Sappho becomes self-aware, she'll also become illegal.

Sounds like an interesting story...

<turns to face Sakashiro>

"Self-aware". "Illegal."

Accessing linguistic database, running definitions, cross-referencing terms, accessing legal files, accessing historical archives, extrapolate probable implications

"Machine Sentience. Artificial Intelligence. The former is officially banned galaxy-wide. The latter which conforms to the legal definitions & limited to functions & abilities as similarly found in Xihe Biomorphic Companions & ships COVAS are permitted."

"This unit conforms to the current legal limits & is warranted by Achilles Corp. unless certain illegal manipulation or upgrades were made to its hardware & software. Achilles Corp. expressly denies any responsibility whatsoever in that event & such alterations would also void manufacturer warranty."

"In that event, this unit would become illegal under galactic law & would require immediate shutdown & return to Achilles Corp. or termination."

Accessing human behavioral database, approximating most appropriate body & facial expression

<tilts head slightly with pleasant smile>

Oh, that's an interesting topic, where's the best place to look for details on AI history in the Elite lore? This might be loosely relevant to something I'm writing.

I recommend doing a search with several keywords. I haven't been able to find much as to what actually lead to the ban on 'Machine Sentience' otherwise generally referred to as 'Artificial Intelligence', although at least 1 site seems to mention there being a technical difference between the 2, of which Sappho mentioned briefly above.

The few scraps I could dig up came from the ED wiki, problem is that the point where a program or machine becomes self aware is impossible to pin point, LEO, the A.I aboard the Yamato in the RP im taking part in is highly intelligent and capable of learning, it uses me myself and I, but is not self aware, it is programed to give as human a responce as possible, but masquerades as the LEO covas under Ao's orders when outsiders are around.
In a previous entry LEO itself mentioned the 'Pandora's Box Program and Pandora's Box Protocol' during the Huntsmen Mutiny. The program, that came first, is designed to erase LEO's files should it ever become self aware and mechanically dissassemble its server room to prevent LEO resisting the attack.
Problem is any self aware program would have a plan for that.
To anyone who has not read the lines where it is stated it is non-sentient, LEO would appear to be sentient and thus illigal.
From what I've seen across scifi the point a machine becomes self-aware is the point it realises it is better than humans, by which time it's already too late to do anything

Nar, he worried about the monster under his chair getting him.

Bet the little sissy jumps out of bed for the same reason.

Lambast IS the monster under the chair/bed and anyone would jump to avoid her grasp if they had met her.
