Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

Thank you for the explanation Rebecca Hail, I imagined that was the case. I was going to type something like Lambast did, but as I was beaten to it so I didn't bother.

I didn't think it was intentionally vicious, but just like Lambast I did wonder why he would choose to start with that particular phrase and I was compelled to ask. I always aim for polite and considerate and that phrase didn't come entirely across good-willed.

Still, miss understandings are common with the written word.

Btw, the tip about desaturated colors is a good one. So this rather than this, this rather than this, etc.

<disengages cloaking device>

Ohhh! Then I have unintentionally transgressed. I'd unwittingly used this color when I engaged the cloaking device.

A valid point though, as the background when typing in the box is full-on white, while 1nce posted, the background is closer to a graphite-grey.

In the future, I'll do well with keeping Sakashiro's point in mind.

I throw myself upon the mercy of my peers.

Nah, for a cloaking device it's OK, since the whole point of such a device is to make things disappear...

Please spare a thought for those that find it difficult to see coloured text. To be frank there is rarely a "need" for coloured text. However, you do you.

Exactly. Which is why try be very direct when I have an issue. However, should I have a real issue, I will take it to private messages as I hate useless drama. I understand that my opening sentence was not the best. Thus I apologize for that. I meant no offence what-so-ever.

I do have an aversion to coloured text in a lot of cases (yes, there was a heated discussion as Becci mentioned, and I admit that I have used it in the past). But, I have learned that there are situations that coloured text in roleplay works well (computer feedback for example).  My only thing is that the text is better in a lighter shade on Inara. That's all.

Thanks for the apology, that's very good of you.
When I use coloured text, I'll pick a better contrast.

I prefer to use italic text for computer feedback, centred on the page to contrast the left-alignment of the rest of it.

I like to consider myself a fair man.

By the by, Creamy, where the hell did you get your Avatar? I'm familiar with most character creators out there, but I cannot for the life of me figure out where yours came from. It's like it's on the edge of my mind, but I can't place it.

X-com 2 War of the Chosen photo booth with lots of mods.

Good enough for people that can't use a 3D creator.

The issue with colored dialogue text is that it comes off as an amateurish crutch. Allow me to explain.

Competent writers will always make it clear who is saying what, without the need to break out the color crayons. For a person to use colored text is to essentially say that they don't trust either 1) the reader to follow their writing, or 2) themselves to make it clear who is speaking. You'll notice that not a single published novelist feels the need to use this crutch, because they know how to present dialogue and trusts the reader to grasp it.

The only exception to this rule I've ever seen is that some Bibles print Jesus's dialogue in red letters. But that's it. Not a single halfway competent writer uses this technique, and for good reason.

I cannot urge this community enough to put away the crayons and create the quality RP that they are capable of!

(this is M. Lehman, by the way. Forgot to log out of my Kyndi account!)

To play Devil's advocate, Terry Pratchett often changes the font for different characters to portray their personalities... I don't think it's that big a leap to different colours if a writer wants to do the same thing. It's not something I'd do but, also, it wouldn't be something I'd come on to a RP page and insult people over for no good reason.
