Synthya WylderHey, Effie, I been loving your RP story!

I had a recollection that in RL, the astronauts would boost the O2 content & lower their suit pressure to a fraction of Earth normal surface pressure to allow more flexibility & reduce strain on the suits...

Might be a tactic to try re: your damaged ship canopy...?

If I found myself in such a situation in my RP, it'd be something I'd consider doing. Just a thought.

Hi Synthia.

Thanks for your encouragement and technical advice. When Kate and Jim return, I’ll pass along your suggestion! We’d never have thought of that and I’m sure the duct tape won’t hold for long!  :D

Edit: has anyone had success TIG welding a piece of bulkhead over the canopy glass aperture? I know we’d have to fly blind, or does the canopy function as a part of the sensor hud, meaning we’d be really blind!

It would depend, I guess, on whether the HUD display could be seen against a solid background (I’m thinking of the contrast when landing on some planets makes reading parts of the HUD really difficult)
Like Maul I have had plenty of practice flying with a breached canopy, result of Squadron Thargoid Interceptor hunts, and it is awkward but manageable. The remaining shards of the canopy allow you to keep a check on the target System or Station by yawing your ship to get an idea of direction. As you approach a station it becomes visible to the naked eye as a shiny dot and the for final approach you just keep your speed down. The notification to safely exit Supercruise is still visible as usual.

The first coupla times I was seriously concerned, nowadays it’s kinda routine! And, as Maul says, plenty of Synthesis materials for your life support module is a good idea. I keep them maxed out as a matter of routine.

To think that primitive 21st century humans alredy had a solution for our problem...

Watched the end of the movie “Kill Command” this morning about AI going bad. Combined with the way the robots look (similar to Thargoid creature art I’ve seen) and the premise of AI/Cyborg/Human relations it looks like it could have come straight out of the Elite Dangerous universe...

Frontier needs to contact this artist...his robots would be a perfect addition to Elite Dangerous/Odyssey... https://www.faustodesign.com/kill-command/. This type of robotics was what I was thinking my character should be involved with since he was a Federal Navy Mechanic...specializing in armor and weapon systems. Sure think I could come up with a really interesting story line. I know “AI” would be limited with machines like this...but I’m not sure how the lore should be treated...any feedback from the lore masters?

There is also A.I. gone good.

As to just how good remains classified.

Suffice it to say, conservative estimates place those at a level that would very likely exceed biological threshold limitations.

Not so sure about the good...looked like a dead dude in some of those images...besides the mechanical being I’m thinking about...well let’s just say their not so snuggly....

I was, ofc, speaking of the Sappho series units.

A search for the movie Ex Machina will show, Ava was acting in self-defense.

The Sappho series units were designed for much more benign functions & purposes.

<walks slowly closer, speaking softly>

Would you like me to demonstrate?

I haven’t seen “Ex Machina” yet but it looks interesting. I have a hard time finding the time to sit down and watch a full movie...and if I have that much time I typically will be playing the game. As far as getting closer...I think you made Max blush a little bit...

I think that a robot with A.I. can be designed & built on purpose, disregarding Asimov's 3 Laws of Robotics, or their intended equivalent.

Take the RL combat/military robots in current development, for instance.

I think that in Sappho's case, designed & built for something other than combat, something equivalent to Asimov's Laws might be a design feature.

For instance, say, protecting the one to which she was assigned from imminent serious bodily harm or death by another human, but that would likely involve some serious judgment algorithms coming into play.

I guess we'll have to see how that might play out in prospective RPs...

The “personal protector” ...”workhorse” line is what I will be aiming towards. Imagine if Core Dynamics made a line of heavy four legged working “Drones” that an enterprising commander, with a lifetime of experience working on automated turreted weapons, used to create a “heavy metal” personal protector...
