Say, if 1 character types in whatever way something that's a thought, like, for instance, "I'm going to kill [in whatever way] that other character around the corner by striking them from behind" then even if the other character knows the 1st is approaching from the rear, & can OOC read those thoughts typed, they'd have no realistic RP way of knowing the plans of the 1st, even if the 2nd knows OOC that the plans of the 1st will result in their death.
I suppose that this means a lot more when the RP is done in real-time, interactively, but I think it still applies.
I RPd LOTS way back in the day when I played Second Life... & there were tools available with a simple keystroke that automatically denoted 'thoughts' vs something that was 'public'.
Strictly following OOC vs IC is a discipline & skill & takes practice.
Not sure if this means anything useful; just posting it in case it might be.

Was reluctant at first but now that I am using them it definitely seems to flow much better I think, suppose you were right, haha.

Point. I guess first attempt to gene-mod self in some way was a furry anyway.

As far as I understand it gene modification is only done using progenitor cells to restore organs and expand life expectancies, so I myself would not go for this route to justify "furries".
Cybernetics though...
What I could see is a former (NOT IMPERIAL!!!*) slave whose master/mistress had some weird fetishes and/or liked to have cybernetic implants added to his/her slaves to dehumanize and humiliate them in some form (think "b* in heat"), like an artificial tail. The tail may be the only thing not removed after liberation due to risks to the spine, sooo...
But this is as far as I would take things to stay inside the lore of E:D, everything else might be pushing things.
*) An Imperial holder that would do THAT to an Imperial slave would earn him-/herself fines by the ISA for mistreatment of slaves so high s/he would end up an Imperial slave for the reminder of his/her life as well (since noone could pay that amount of credits)
