6 years ago, I found Star Trek Online & played it lots, until I got bored with the scripted & commercial nature of it, aside from my impression that it's mainly for ST-flavored cosplay & space-barbie for kids. One thing that STO had though was something called 'The Foundry' where members could write, design & script their own missions, series of missions, & stories.
Sadly, for 1 reason or another, the STO Devs canceled it. That was basically the end of STO for me & I looked around & discovered E:D. It's the grown-up/adult's space game sim.
What lore details the FDevs don't put in (& really, there isn't much IMO) leaves it mostly wide-open & the Inara RP sections offer the members to do the same thing here.
Lots of members will offer tips & the "Lore-Meisters" will be there to offer course corrections as needed.

So I think I'll read a few dozen pages of RP texts to get the main idea. And talking about lore and what's happening in Galaxy... I play since early January and know what was in these days, and have a bit of "general knowledge" of this universe thanks to playing Frontier several years ago. So a slight shade of "being new to the stars, just emerged from the on-station / on-planet life" is pretty much "in character".

Well, they did say in Thursday's stream that there will be a lot more cosmetic options for your Holo-Me, I myself hope that this will mean off-duty outfits for when you are docked at and run around on a starport. Everything beyond that will depend on what facilities you will find on board those stations. If there're bars and other social spots I assume you might see the rise of certain roleplaying hotspots.

Anyway, playing "myself in 3307" seems to be not that hard.

MeowersBeing a small human being in an endless space, seeing everyone around doing their stuff, no "big heroic quests" to do - it's what I found amazing in this game.
That is the absolute beauty of the game: you make your own story- good, bad, whatever.
