Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

"Beer me", huh? Seems like someone has been playing Cyberpunk

Actually, I got my refund on Cyberpunk! I was pretty po'd by the bugs.

Too bad. I actually enjoyed the game a lot, for me it's easily GOTY, despite its botched release.

Tried to refund this stuff after 28 hours of battling bugs. Of course they declined, but it took 28 hrs only to do a bunch of first quests. Turned out to be a half hardware issue, with other half for game bugs. With hardware fixed, I guess, I'll play it... after a year or two. Game mechanics, if you side a bit from main gorgeous quest line, is sloppy at best. You know, stabbing a car in a roof with a knife to see it explode under you... Pretty much Warcraft 2 with orcs burning villages by hitting buildings with axes. But some glassy LCD screen took a whole machinegun chain of ammo and didn't cracked a bit. Disappointing :c

Staying on topic: I have a question about RP thing, but the text turned out a bit larger than I thought before, so I'm still kicking the Notepad... :p

So, some wacky noobie question, if I may...

What's the point of roleplaying? I see that it's a popular thing to do, but never had participated (obviously, I wouldn't have such a question if I had did this before, or just had been more social, phah). I'm no new person to game forums and discussions, but it's a first time that I see something that looks more like a community, not just a bunch of various players talking about in-game stuff.

Of course I googled. To get vague common answers. But look: we play games to fulfil some emotional demand. For some it's a battle for victory, a competition, somebody seek relaxation, somebody enjoys the views, somebody likes to communicate with other people etc. It's personal. In fact, that goes not for games only, we're in constant search of emotions that various activities give to us. What does a Roleplay do? Because it definitely does something that some people enjoy. But I still can't figure out what is it exactly.

Would be happy if someone of you answer.

Mostly it's writing and fun to pretend.

For me, in this game you can do pretty much whatever you like, support who you like, do whatever jobs... become any kind of character you want. You're not bound by being the hero or the protagonist, you're not the dragonborn.

With this, I found that I had fully developed a character in my head, so when I saw the RP pages on here I found a way that my character could further interact with other CMDRs from the game but on a more personal level than just what we're limited to in game.

That and the fact that this is an awesome community and it's a fun way to interact with good people.

Claudette De La CroixMostly it's writing and fun to pretend.

Perhaps I should try. Have to clean my head of fear about goofing up something. :p
Anyway, playing "myself in 3307" seems to be not that hard.

JB ThreepwoodYou're not bound by being the hero or the protagonist, you're not the dragonborn.

Being a small human being in an endless space, seeing everyone around doing their stuff, no "big heroic quests" to do - it's what I found amazing in this game.

Thanks. I'll think about it. I mean, really think, no shelving for the "maybe some day".

I simply imagined what kind of person my pilot would be and built from there.

Give it a shot! Goofing up is half the experience, in my opinion.

For me personally, I enjoy the potential it has to develop a neat story with other while making a few new friends along the way. So many characters have these unique and interesting backstories that are ridiculously deep (sometimes you can't help but become invested in them lmao). Seeing these characters interact on the forums feels like a crossover episode that I never knew I wanted but am glad that exists.

Claudette De La CroixI simply imagined what kind of person my pilot would be and built from there.

Perhaps it's the lack of my experience of actually playing a character. Because in-game I do what I would be doing if it were 3307 and ED universe around, so it's probably no "OOC" concept for me, my character is always me and I'm always she.

Maybe. I guess it's no other way to find out if I like it or not. :p

Tell you what. I posted in the Galactic Bar. Write your character and have her say hello!
17 Mar 2021, 6:31pm
MeowersBecause in-game I do what I would be doing if it were 3307

Kinda sounds like you're already RPing a little bit there. Run with that. Who's to say that your character can't share the same opinions and motivations as you would in 3307?

Edit: Also I like to think most people put at least a little bit of themselves into their characters. If not then I'm doing it wrong and oh well. :p

Claudette De La CroixWrite your character and have her say hello!

With the story now happening with me in-game I can only say "...sh*t!" :p
So I guess I have to deal with this little war (4 separate wars, actually) going on, write a standard ordinary usual logbook entry about rump kicking and politics and then enter the bar to say "sh*t!" but with more a relief than stress. And have a story to tell too. :p

Maul MontresorWho's to say that your character can't share the same opinions and motivations as you would in 3307?

Wrote a bio based on my own story, just refitted to Elite lore. Bc nothing will make an immersive "holy cr*p how do I went thru that hell" back story better than this life itself.
