Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

Knightwolf 1785Well I have some information here about relic AI from the EDRPG. From what I'm reading there was a rebellion before the third millennium AI was increasingly common to use self-aware and learning machines to a wide range of humanity's problems. The AI turned on humanity but a few brave souls wiped them from the computers. However before the programs were fully gone a large number of unmanned ships launched into the galaxy. So the threat is still out there.

But why would they grow fur and a tail?

Sakashiro But why would they grow fur and a tail?

That was about the AI not the aliens I'm working on.

I'd've thought humans would be able to have cosmetic surgery to look more animal-like, people do it to a degree now, but they're not their own species.

I'm not one to kink-shame... but there would probably be a market for furry space-foxes for rich perverts. The character you added before would've fitted in if a pervy slaver had done this to a child, sold it as a sex slave to a paedo animal fantasist who then had to ditch it somewhere when the authorities came sniffing around... therefore the child wouldn't know any better and would assume they're alien... or would at least choose to believe it to replace the memories of being a child sex slave.

But that's pretty grim.

There's a lore-friendly way to play a furry character in ED, and it doesn't even involve aliens: congenital hypertrichosis.

Edit: But it doesn't include a tail.

Has anyone even read the bio for my character? Also the gene mods that are lore in Elite are another point as well. For goodness sake people can have purple eyes, and hair thanks to those gene mods. But not for what I'm working on with even a story/lore reason why these aliens would show up. Let alone the new tech that can be brought in. I'm not talking gravity generators or the like, but new kinds of armor for the ships we already have.

OuberosThe Docking Computer and Supercruise assist suggest some automation would be possible for an Android pilot but its very clear that any artificial sentience is universally feared and avoided.

Ai relics are described as mostly fake or fragments.

A thinking machine walking into a bar would likely be shot, burned and launched into the nearest star by system authority. Other sentient non humans don't fare well in this universe. The Thargoids are just target practice these days and a long time ago there was a species on Alioth called The Mudlarks that might have been sentient but was wiped out.

I mean, they're not really a threat to humanity either. They'd be a threat if they could self replicate and develop themselves, but you'd need Vessels specced specifically for that.

...so you're not talking about an alien but a gene-modded human?

Edit: Oh, you edited it... you were still talking about aliens.

They can self replicate. It's just very slow making the new hardware for their bodies.

I'm talking alien, but I have to point out the gene-mods is lore. So their might be some people already going around with cat ears, as an example.

That's stated by official lore?

And again: you're groping for even the slimmest excuse to roleplay something that isn't supported by the lore. We're not telling you this to be rude, disrespectful, or snobbish. We just have a grasp of what the lore does and doesn't entail. Humans in Elite stay, well... human.

The closest that one could get to what you're talking about are cybernetics, which are themselves deeply problematic due to the deeply entrenched stigma attached to them.

To wit: no cat ears.

Yes and no. I'm looking over their information in the EDRPG Exploration Supplement right now. There are two machine body type they use to control and repair/build other machines called Assembler (made up of dozens of micro computers inside a half-meter long body) and Progenitor (a one meter sphere scrap electronics form which a dozen or more metallic tentacles emerge.)

There's a ships list as well of possessed ships here too. Ghost Sidewinder, Possessed Krait, Cyber-Cobra, and a Aspwinder. That last one is a pair of Ghost Sidewinders on an Asp Explore that break off after you "kill" it.

I'm done with talking about it then with you guys. Clearly even sharing what ideas I had form lore reasons doesn't matter either. I don't know why I thought asking would be a good idea with this damnable wall that's put up. It's not stopping me from getting a large list of ideas together and sending it along to FDev. Something might come of it.
