Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

Knightwolf 1785You can some of the Elite books on Audible still. You could enjoy listening to the books while flying around in Elite.

The audible subscription is independent from prime, i already have too many subscriptions. I intend to be an old man and buy the paperback copies and physically read them, while listening to music

Okay, that's fair enough.

Knightwolf 1785I'm done even trying to talk about it. Just drop it and forget I even tried.

Don't give up coz the Lore Enforcers don't like imagination.
With Xihe Biomorphic Companions and Professor D Luffy brain programming research, something like you is well within reach, and that's from in-game lore.

It doesn't take much of a stretch to think of what else they would have made behind closed doors away from the ethics committee's eyes. There could be all sorts of odd AIs with human imprinted minds about; and thanks to Xihe Biomorphic Companions, they can be any shape or cross breed.

Is this really the roleplay hill you want to die on, Lambast?

So what?
It's not my thing but I wouldn't stop someone else from enjoying themselves either.

If ya don't like what Knightwolf 1785 is doing, don't read it.

I most assuredly won't.

Hello people!

I've a question about the roleplay in E:D. There is some groups who really play in character (in chatbox or with ingame voice), or maybe all the roleplay in Elite is just located in some journal entry logs?
I'm quite new to the game (1 month old), I really love the game immersion, but never found anyone who play in character in the game. Always out of the game.

It's just a bad luck? ^^

There are some players who roleplay in game from time to time (I'm one of them), but they seem on the rare side.

What is your playstyle and/or character goals?

It's hard to tell for the moment, but I play a young pilot without any clear objective at this time, except trying to do "good things" for helping people and trying to became respected. I prefer the combat and exploration activities, and I like doing missions in a roleplay mood because they offers some scenarios and good reasons to doing stuff. I'm a long time roleplayer on many games, and I really hope to find an immersive group of players in this universe ^^

JB ThreepwoodI'd've thought humans would be able to have cosmetic surgery to look more animal-like, people do it to a degree now, but they're not their own species.

I'm not one to kink-shame... but there would probably be a market for furry space-foxes for rich perverts. The character you added before would've fitted in if a pervy slaver had done this to a child, sold it as a sex slave to a paedo animal fantasist who then had to ditch it somewhere when the authorities came sniffing around... therefore the child wouldn't know any better and would assume they're alien... or would at least choose to believe it to replace the memories of being a child sex slave.

But that's pretty grim.

C'mon... the old child-gets-gene-altered-to-look-like-a-fox, fox-child-gets-sold-into-slavery, slaver-loses-fox-child, fox-child-grows-up-thinking-it's-an-alien, Sexy-fox-lady-finds-out-the-truth-and-hunts-down-scientist-and-slaver???? It's a tale as old as time.

If you're in it strictly for the roleplay (as a doer of good things) you could get a decent start by looking for distress signals and helping out NPCs with fuel and repair limpets. You could also engage in search and rescue by checking out crash sites and such, taking in escape pods and black boxes back to stations.

I don't know of any player groups that roleplay this sort of thing, but there might be search and rescue-oriented ones (that aren't the Fuel Rats).

So now that I've established myself in the game and the squadron is coming along nicely, I'm thinking it's time to start role-playing a bit more seriously. At the moment, I'm pretty much treating every interaction in-game as an in-character interaction. Future-y games like Elite are good because they let me dismiss the countless spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors of the common player as mistakes that an actual character in the universe might conceivably make (assuming kids pay as little attention in third grade English class in the Elite universe as they do in ours). I can also tolerate various lore-bending and even some lore-breaking characters by pretending they're simply ordinary folks who've just been hitting the future-y psychedelics a bit too hard. This leaves relatively few things that can break my immersion, for which I'm grateful. Now the goal I'm trying to achieve is the enhancement of that immersion.

I've already begun my logbooks and they're great fun. Additionally, some of my squadmates are quite interested in role-play as well. Even so, I could still use more like-minded Commanders to collaborate with. Here's hoping that by reaching out in here I can make some connections and come up with some neat ideas.

o7 everyone. Fly well and give 'em hell!

I wrote logs for a while to spice up the monotony of a few months out exploring and I found I enjoyed writing in the Elite Univers too. It was thanks to those logs I got an invitation to join some guys that had been writing in Off-Station for a while.

If you alreay have someone willing to type with you, I would suggest coming up with a basic story and get it moving on one of the Citi Gateway pages. Interested parties may insert themselves into ya story there.

There are some surprising things that pop up in the RP pages... explosions, kidnappings, crazy narcoleptics welding in the bar... the thing I wasn't expecting to read today was Creamy saying, "I’d really rather not cause a scene."

In all the time I've been enjoying his stories, I didn't think he'd even realised that that was an option.
