Elite itself already has a fairly decent Wiki, so I fear that anything we create here would be redundant. There are also a few meta issues with lore hierarchy, as some of the older books have been partially retconned, and that which is found in the EDRPG guides, though useful, are superceded by the game (which, with Odyssey approaching, I expect to see quite a bit). There is also the issue of who here should or even could he trusted with managing such a project, as I'm certain that there will be objections no matter who is appointed for the task.

I see. Well, when somebody will be heavily involved in it and will provide all the data/texts/content I can incorporate it here. It should be a community activity, so also organized this way and frankly speaking without any community effort in that regard I won't do anything (as I mentioned, I have no time for that due a ton of other work on Inara). I can imagine it can be quite time consuming work to put everything together and it will require some dedication, so up to you.



Sorry, but I really do not think this is a good idea. It sounds fine in principle but, as we have seen during the last week or so (and on several occasions in the past), getting a consensus on what material should and should not be regarded as "lore-suitable" is a minefield of personal opinion. Is it fair to saddle an individual (or group, for that matter) with the responsibility of deciding what goes in and what doesn't, and of having to deal with the arguments and accusations of being "Lore Police" that will inevitably follow?

There is plenty of established lore in ED already. It's simply a case of extrapolating from it, whilst staying as true as we can to the source material.

We don't, for example, know for sure if Star Trek survived in any form. Star Wars, on the other hand, has been mentioned twice in Galnet, which is an official canon source. If the dozen or so Star Wars movies made it, then it's reasonable to think that Star Trek and its far more numerous spin offs also survived as a major work of fiction.

Regarding ancient works of literature, "Premonition" by Drew Wagar describes Cambridge in England as "one of the few cities on Earth that had recovered pretty much intact from [WW3]", and is further described as boasting "the only surviving collection of books that pre dated [WW3]". This refers to books only, but I for one feel it's not unlikely that digital media copies of far more did survive, given that not everwhere on Earth appears to have been decimated.

As for clothing, T-shirts and jeans are specifically mentioned in "Wanted", an official ED novel by Gavin Deas. I would encourage anyone wishing to investigate ED lore to read this and the other novels and short stories. They do provide further insight into the ED universe at many levels.

I think that the conversation got onto what shouldn't be allowed versus what's overly restrictive about RPing in ED... both seem quite negative standpoints.

I'd like to look at it all from a positive stance;

I like most of the ongoing storylines that people have put on here. I read them all. I don't read all the logs but I follow all the RP pages. Some might bend the lore a little but it's usually respectful and for the sake of the story.

I like the way Jubei and the staff of The Olive Grove have fleshed out a part of the station.

I like how Creamy has shown us a sort of Fhloston Paradise.

I like how a lot of people have made the effort to interact with each other and I've enjoyed all the interactions I've had with other CMDRs.

It may not all be kosher from a lore point of view but, for my part, I'll continue trying to be respectful to the lore as it's the world JB lives in... I may bend it, but I'll try not to break it.

But if people are happy to keep writing on these RP pages, I'm happy to keep reading them.

Honestly, that's all we ask.

Sure, there have been times that I've used items and aspects from other series that I adore, but I always leave the description on the vague side of things or I alter it enough to fit what's likely plausible in the E:D universe.

One of my sins is Jubei's prized sword and similar bladed weapons that he will use. I like the idea of it being very difficult to break and have it be able to pierce most known manufactured materials, so I originally had it made of adamantium. However, I knew that if my character himself didn't give away how much I loved Wolverine, the use of that fictional metal would. Thus, I used vibranium not only as it's main metallic component, but also as a way to have it vibrate as super-sonic speeds to allow the lightsaber-like ability to cut and pierce things. However, I didn't see the MCU delving as deep into the vibranium arc as much as they did, so I stopped mentioning it by 'vibranium' and started to just call it 'a strong and exceptionally durable metal that has an enhanced cutting ability when combined with electrically charged vibrations'. Yes, having typed that out... it can totally be a rave-sword.

My other sin is the obvious nod to the Street Fighter series. Jubei's clan in Shinigami practices Tensatsuken (loosely translated to Heaven's Final Fist, or Heaven's Killing Fist), which is taken from Ansatsuken (Assassin's Fist, the martial art that Ryu, Ken, Gouki, and Gouken practice).

I once wrote that Jubei listens to heavy metal, I think I even named a band or two... did that survive the devastation of WW3 or the near millennia that came after? Probably not. Thus, now I'll simply describe the music as having a distorted aggressive rhythm section with and angry vocalist.

I do think that a lot did survive and would be available in historic mediums or research, but certainly not in the everyday life of a spacer. Time and thousands of different planetary cultures (forget regions on those planets) would see to that. Oh! If one does reference something to the past, it would make absolute sense if they were a <insert ancient historical thing here> buff. But that would have to be explained and naturally be a part of the characters known and established themes. An example of this (but not limited to) would be if someone obsessed with acting/entertainment/historical broadcasts, then it would be far more acceptable if that person mentions a 20th/21st century entertainment program (otherwise I would write it as something of a modern-3300's version of it in a vague way).

I may be too late for the topic, but this talks about "how the 20th/21th pop-culture may survive through years" gave me an idea...

"You know, like that Captain Jack Sparrow from the very old, even non-holo movie thing, probably you had seen it, if you wasn't skipping your Pre-WW3 Culture lectures too hard."

...so, I've added the marked text to the line in the logbook. Maybe this thing could do the trick without doing some bad things to the lore. If we have lessons and lectures about ancient/medieval cultures in 21th, it sounds reasonable that students of 34th could have lectures about our today.

I carefully worded my response so as to minimize any further fueling of what plainly seems to me, a pointless continuation of an ongoing tit-for-tat, in hopes that you would do the same.
