I mean, you could say the same comparing 7th and 21st... well, maybe we're a little better.



And why not? Science and tech are improved during the time, but it's still the same human society. With flaws haven't gone, but transformed over time.


I'd say our more concrete grasp on reality through science, and all the benefits that's provided, has been a strong net positive on human society.

Superstition has lessened, knowledge and freedom have increased. There is much work to be done, but we're further along than ever.

Well, we aren't sacrificing goats to idols and slavery is generally regarded as barbaric and cruel...

Society isn't perfect, but it has improved significantly, especially in the last 200 years or so.

Most likely they'll look at our todays sci fi like we look at sci fi from the late 19th century.

Respectable works, but fundamentally stuck in the mindset of their time.

Literary works can't help but be products of their times, I'll say.

Jules Verne & H. G. Wells, for instance.

Despite being quite dated by today's standards, they remain classic writers of (science) fiction among other things, & still good reading.

That's exactly the point. Even though they remain classic science fiction authors, their stories are somewhat outlandish by todays standards. Obviously this is due to lack of knowlegde we have today and the mindset that changed with said knowledge.

Similiar to that, our imaginations of the future will be considered outlandish or at least strange in the future, even though we have a far better unterstanding of the world and how humanity develops in long economic cycles.

I let people say what they want to say, but not when it turns into insults, etc. - there was never good outcome from such style of "discussions".
