Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

I forgot I was on my Oliver account... even though it fits. Although Oliver isn't you enemy due to alliances... he has none. Story-wise, he's only with Tharik's Corsairs so he can spy on the Empire without totally losing his wanton lust for violent freedom.

I mean, yeah Bec, you filthy Fed.

Hey, if today's Galnet article is any indication, especially the excert from the Federal Times, the Empire will soon be more democratic then the Federation after it has been turned into an outright corporatocracy.

Still better than the Empire. You falsely assume that my character would stop hating the Empire when it'd get more democratic.

I think FDev is trying too hard to make the Elite universe an imitation of the real world. Things are becoming somewhat predictable lately.

21st, 34th... Still humans with the same pattern of flaws.

And why not? Science and tech are improved during the time, but it's still the same human society. With flaws haven't gone, but transformed over time.

Some examples, just to be not so "vague and philosophic".

Drugs are still illegal. So it's easier to ban them than to deal with the addiction issues. So it's 13 centuries gone, but humankind has not developed a reliable, working addiction treatment measures. And probably not gone far in understanding the nature of addictions, because one must try once (twice, etc.) to became addicted, and why one tries this - is still a question to be solved.

Second shot. The Empire. Marlin Duval was a woman. And Arissa Lavigny-Duval is the only female leader of the Empire after her, yet she got that post after a political turmoil. They even call her "Emperor". So Empire apparently is a highly-patriarchal society. Nuff said.

Marlin Duval never intended to found an Empire though. The one who did was her brother, she was the one who laid the foundation of the colony in Achenar.

As for drugs, it's not black and white, there's always going to be substances that are going to be heavily regulated due to their toxicity or addictiveness. Deregulation of drugs isn't always the answer.

I'd be surprised if getting high in the 34th century still required consumption of actual substances. A civilization advanced enough to feed sensory input straight into the brain (through cybernetic implants) should be able to synthesize any kind of drug-like sensation on demand.

That doesn't appear to happen, but narcotics are still everywhere. Onionhead anyone?
