Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

Was Panza an AI, or a robot with enhanced parameters? Jubs uses an enhanced COVAS that was developed by a Chaperhouse member to have better tactical response measures, but also programmed to be a smart-ass in it's interaction. By no means does it have free will or sentience. ...and hat would be the difference, free will and sentience. If that is lacking, it's a robotic assistant and there's no need to worry.

For my part, I'm always forward on the parts that I see as lore breaking. I try to DM the person and give suggestions to help them make the character more lore-friendly, while still trying to keep in mind what they want to portray. I do this not to shut people out, but to have them engage in a more plausible manner. I think there are a lot of great stories out there, that with a little consideration and tweaking, can fit into the Elite universe.

In the end, I still will not engage in RP with things that I don't agree with. The people I talk to understand this and we have an mutual understanding. No harm, no fowl.

And again, should someone want to ask me how they can make a character work in the established Lore, I'm happy to make suggestions to them. DM me, we can talk.

There's plenty of stories to be told and characters that can be created and developed in interesting ways. Contrary to the words of some, Elite's lore can lend itself well to storylines and people.

There happens to be a couple of seasoned writers that have a few unofficial novels out there worth reading.

What amazes me is that instead of making an attempt to try and work within the lore, people would rather storm off and quit.

It is not as hard to create characters or storylines in Elite as the naysayers would make you believe, and there are plenty of us willing to help anyone who asks.

All we ask is that folks have the right attitude. None of this defeatist "Elite is boring" bullshit. The lines of a drawing aren't there to keep the colors from showing, but to help the artist use the right kinds of colors. The same goes for the lore of the game.

Panza was, to all intents and purposes, a cleaning droid. Although he had programs added (those that are available to ships anyway, autocruise assist etc) he was just meant as someone to follow JB around and look menacing. He had no free will and was taught mannerisms the same way a parrot would. His personality was projected onto him by JB... similar to Wilson in Castaway.

Although I believe he is more than plausible, he doesn't define JB's existence and therefore I'll capitulate.

Why block me, did I insult you?
Did I bring the truth too close to home?
Have you moved from a universe you love (Star Trek) because you are disillusioned by the changing lore that you need to try to recreate your favourite parts of it in someone else's backyard (Elite: Dangerous)?

Please take the challenge set before you and create something great within the bounds given. It is ok to decline but you show your true colours by backing down from it.
