1) a Human, s/he doesn't even need to be a pilot him/herself but a barkeeper or shopowner.
2) a non-sentient android/gynoid. Borrowing a term from Mass Effect it should be a virtual intelligence (VI), not an actual AI, as the latter is banned due to event in the past of Elite. Should be an alt though as it needs an owner.

Would this sum things up correctly?

How can i stay in canon if i dont know what canon is? I guess i dont see where FDEV or anyone else said there arnt all KINDS of HUMANOID commanders.. (again i haven't researched or read enough ED "canon") how about how many species of human are there 1300 years from now? Maybe some mutated or morphed? generation ship had radiation leak and the on board dogs morphed into sentient bipeds and learned to fly a sidewinder. I saw a dog piss in a toilet.. they can learn anything.. given enough time and and infinite number of script writing monkeys...

You cant prove a negative yet here you are arguing that this doesnt exist and that doesnt exist... well if it so cut and dried.. how come there is no primer on how to RP in ED? no video.. no official RP club?

And if you want THIS to be the definitive source then maybe a simple help file.. with "the story so far" in synopsis and a concise list of dos and don'ts, would be helpful.

Any history I get seems to be sketchy at best and yet we are forbidden from "dis-respecting" the creators at Frontier.. What are the express rules that cannot be broken? Well they are fuzzy too.. i love all this fuzzy math and logic.. don't you?

We have a catch 22.. a lack of lore and a pile of un-written rules regarding what lore is and is not.. even thought there arent any rules really... i mean im so confused..

You would be right i dont actually "mingle in society" i dont use facebook and Ive never really RPd a collaborative story before... so ya dont assume things.. so I dont get it and yes you have to spell it out now... WHY? why are we so anti-species-ist. around here? We live on earth with billions of species of "aliens" but we cant stretch our imagination in a SPACE GENRE game?

Why cant all you canon lords get together and write us a nice little tutorial then? and make it a prerequisite before you can post? Besides i dont see why here (inara) in particular is the be all and end all of where canon is decided? EDDB is a damn good site too.

You say you are not authoritative as canon and in the same breath say you are trying to keep everything canon.

1. I said the lore is written there, it means, you can find the sources and read it or ask people who read it, when you are unable to find it or something is unclear. If you do not want to do it for whatever reasons, it's your problem, not mine or other roleplayers here, at least until the lack of knowledge will "invade" the RP here.
2. I also said that RP in here should stick with the lore. It means that anybody participating should respect it and should have at least some basic knowledge. Please see point 1. Another option is to do it intuitively and learn the ropes on the fly, some have managed it here before easily.
3. Yes, I am no authority about the canon, because I do not need to be. The written canon/lore is the authority itself. I am however an authority on this site to say the canon is the canon and that RP on this site should respect it.
4. I offered multiple times here that Inara can have an comprehensive source of the lore, if anybody will fill it with the content. And that's not an easy work, because there is a ton of lore stuff. Please, do not delegate your problem to find lore sources or ask the proper questions (doesn't matter if it's just a bad luck, laziness, inability to find information or whatever) to other people here. It's your problem, not theirs, but if they will be so kind to put all the information together in their free time and from their good will, it may appear here.
