Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

KazumaGShepA tall anthro canine walks into the bar area, looking around, wearing a blue overcoat with brown pants. "Well I've never seen a place like this before." he says looking around before walking over to bar.

"Glass of Alioth Sparkling please." clearly the bartender isn't used to such a request or not used to seeing a German Shepherd looking like a human. Regardless the bartender hands him the drink "Here you go, one glass of Alioth Sparkling."

Taking the glass he'd nod paying the bill of the water and then walks around, finding somewhere kinda out of the way where he could comfortably listen to the music.

Ummm.. is this a friend of Rain? I mean... Slack jawed speechless... Didn't we just put out this fire?

Best to place that RP in the Alternative section, I think.

Not to nit-pick, but: "Alioth Sparkling - Sparkling Wine"

I apologize about that, I saw Rain's posts and assumed it was going to be okay, anyway it's no big deal I'll just delete it and keep stuff like that to my personal logs.

A seperate thread got created for RP that's not lore-friendly, "Roleplay: Alternative Reality". Rain's switched to it as well

I see, I may keep going but I'm not sure. I'm usually busy in-game anyway. Just unlocked another engineer. Slowly getting my Chieftain together.

Artie
Knightwolf 1785You don't get it! I did adjust Rain and her story. But you made it clear when you send "Sentinent androids, "furries", etc. currently doesn't belong to the existing Elite timeline. Period." Do I need to underline it? Furry as in Rain! There is no tomorrow for anything of mine here! You made it very clear.

* Shrug *
Well, the "no to so-called furries" is a RP policy here for a very long time and if I recall correctly, this was discussed again a month ago and you was told about it. That you have decided to ignore it is nobody's responsibility but yours, sorry to be that harsh. But you can always alter the older posts for the continuity, adjust it for a costume or something like that. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Of course, this apply only for the RP threads here, you can still write anything you wish into logbooks. Although there is recommended to stick with Elite's lore, it's not enforced any way.

Max ThoresonArtie, May I make a suggestion? Could a non-lore based thread be created for those that want to create stories that don’t fit in Elite lore? That way folks that choose a different path have a creative outlet on the form?

Hmm... that may worth a consideration, but I think the logbooks may be covering that sufficiently already?

So then Artie, considering with what you are saying, if furries wanted to have something like our characters fit within the Elite Universe ouside of Alternate reality. Would be safe to say our "human" characters are just wearing suits and say like we needed a drink or something or the RP needed some form of identification the heads would just come off revealing the person underneath. Considering we have these things in real life I doubt it would be a stretch to say they could still exist in Elite's universe as well. I'm regardless of your answer I doubt I'll be continuing to roleplay but not due to rules but just my schedule is already full as it is with work and streams. This was just something in case I found free time and wanted to work within that angle.

Sure, when presented as a costume, why not. You will be probably a weirdo to other characters there (similar as in real world today), but I see no problem with that otherwise.

Well then that pretty much solves the problem of "No furries" in the RP. Reading back I don't see why this was such an issue. Hell this pretty much just gives me an off shoot for an alt "human" character I could use and work with the angle that he used to be an entertainer before becoming commander and he keeps the suit as a form of pride for his craft before becoming a commander.

And you expect this character to just... be accepted in a conventional social setting?

No, but then that wouldn't be fun, now would it and it's not like he would wear it all the time. Besides this is all theoritcal. As I mentioned, I generally don't have much of an interest in RPing but it gives ideas and that's important.

Like to give an idea, he could have been doing a show on a the station for the kids and went to the bar for a drink and because he was so "in character" he could completely forgot it was on, and of course he wouldn't think much of then be reminded that "hey you still have your suit on." I mean this is what role play is isn't it? If I expect this character to just be accepted then that'd almost be like trying to have a perfect character which as far as I know is very looked down upon, or he could have a damaged background and wearing the suit brings him comfort. There are any number of reasons I could give him for having it and wearing it.

It sounds like to me you're putting the cart before the horse.

Focus on the last sentence you wrote there. Give him reasons to wear it - not just excuses why the reader should accept it.

I already gave him one reason. Couldn’t care less if readers accepted him or not. That’s entirely their choice, again I have no interest real interest on this topic. Even if gave a gave one of the best most well thought out reasons for it to make sense as to how or why he has it the reader could still say “Oh well that’s just an excuse try again.” It’s the reader’s decision to accept the character not mine.

Huh... I mean, I'm not personally into that subculture... but, that is the most balanced and sane concept I've seen so far. Hell... it fits into the lore without issue.

And yeah... you would face social issues, as I'm sure people in anipamorphic (sp?) suits would still not widely accepted. But you seem to understand that. Thus, I can get behind that.

As a side note, I don't think that Phisto was being insulting. I think he was merely saying that it seems you don't know yet why the character would wear the suite, and is suggesting that is an important thing to dial in before moving on.

"I forgot that I was wearing a furry suit" is a pretty tough sell.

"I'm dysfunctional and need a furry suit to make me feel better" sounds like someone who shouldn't be trusted with a spaceship... or an inadvertent callout on real life furries.

And please don't try to force a false binary between the "perfect character" and someone who must wear a furry suit. It's disingenuous.
