Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

That is a great Idea, however a lot of people just don't read them, or instructions, rules or anything before they jump in headfirst.
It would probably be handy to have but it is all available on the interwebs anyway.
Edit: some of it is in books that have a price tag. I wouldn't want those to miss out on their dues.
Yes, thats why I think an In Lore ONLY page would be more use than an Alternate Reality page.

Lambast MercyRebecca HailWhat insinuation beyond "This person knows a lot about the lore, if somethings unclear ask them." is there?
There is no "I know the lore" qualification to earn, so I looked back at the posts of the person held up as an example to take a lead from and can't see how that is a good person to approach. Hence the reason I took issue with the endorsement.
A while ago Arti suggested a lore resource page. I'd like to see that so people can read it all for themselves and come to their own conclusions. The lore for Elite is pretty thin in a lot of arears and very open to interpretation, so I think a page of good resources to refer to is better than asking people that have come to their own conclusions coloured by their own opinion.
While there's no qualification for knowing the lore, there are a couple of people here that have been known for discussing the lore extensively here and elsewhere.
And yeah, Elite lore is quite thin when it comes to a lot of areas and in these areas it is quite open to interpretation. But these discussions about the "RP police" are never about these thin areas of the lore. These discussions are always about things the Elite lore is quite clear about or inserts of another universe.
It's far from unusual that a setting that is relatively hard sci-fi is more conservative when it comes to the lore.

I still disagree, new people generally receive gentle correction than anything negative.
Seeing RP conforming to the Lore as the primary source is much more beneficial than a garbage bin full of trash as your first impression of the Elite: Dangerous RP Universe.

The problem is that somebody must fill it with content and as I have mentioned earlier, I have no time for that. So, the idea is certainly still on the table, but until somebody will make a thorough compilation of all the lore stuff (in the most objective way possible), it's a problem to create it.

M. LehmanI'd say that a system where players are expected to make good-faith efforts to remain within the lore is reasonable, as is the right of others to question or discuss lore-friendliness of specific RP. If a player can refer to the evidence to prove or disprove a proposition, then so be it. No need for a privileged sub-group of members to actually be the lore police.
Succinctly said, and another good example where a page of links to actual official or canon lore sources would really help.
Edit-
It is a difficult task, but if it was there, then it would bring a polite end to some otherwise overly heated disagreements.

It seems to me a very few extreme examples of lore-braking creators have stoked the fires and raised the temperature of people that want to keep the purity of INARA. That driving will to protect what INARA RP is set up for, has turned nasty from a fair number of the more verbose defenders. Now a bomb has been dropped and hit more than intended targets.
Now let me state this clearly, I’m into keeping within the lore.. but I’m also into encouraging creativity.
I’m currently developing something that could be considered Off-Lore. It’s gonna wrap up with no change to the status quo, but until that moment, its now in dangerous territory thanks to statements disallowing the stretching the boundaries of in-game and in-lore references. I can’t find the posts (I can’t be bothered to look too hard for them right now, its nearly home time) I’m referring to, but the feeling on INARA has dropped from :-
Create in Elites’ science fiction setting.
To
Create within Elites’ official setting or else we’ll bring you down.
It doesn’t appear very approachable any more.

And if that doesn't work we can all just log into Alts and be outright abusive until they go away, amirite?
Wait, oh that would be like a secret police force wouldn't it?
Nasty. I like it.

Desert Fox isn't an alt, stop trying to imply that.

This would not stop disagreements even overly heated ones. Differing opinions on interpretations and skirting lesser defined Lore will still occur. This is just wishful thinking.

Yes, good point. It would offer a very good fulcrum for Artis' final judgment as opposed to "Because this random person said so"

Well, in my opinion, the "Elite's science fiction setting" and "Elite's official setting" should be the very same. As an example, I may use Tolkien's Middle-earth: There is no problem to create various plausible characters within the lore that may not fit archetypes that were present in the books. But, when somebody will create a hobbit healer in a meaning of "wizard" using "magic", then it will be a problem. On the other hand, when it won't be a hobbit but elf, there will be no issue with that. Both elements, so hobbits and "magic" are present in the setting, but their combination is something that is off. It may look like a minor thing, but even such minor things are shaping the "scene" where all the acting happens. Similar it's with the androids and AI in Elite - both are or were present at some point, but at the moment the sentient AI/androids are not a thing. It's not about bringing anybody down, but about not breaking the scene.
