Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

ANYONE is welcome to RP here (doesn't matter their real-life gender, nationality, religion or anything other), the only condition is to stick with the RP rules here as stated in each RP thread. That applies also to not-real-life RP character preferences - the only condition, once again, is to stick with the rules as written, especially in the threads where the lore "compatibility" is required. For non-lore stuff there is another extra thread, as was mentioned. It's simple as that.

Rho TefnutetI know a lot of furries who are handicapped, suffer mental disabilities (e.g. autism, Asperger), have different sexuality, were kicked from their homes, suffered serious trauma, are of different skin color, and so on. They became furries and joined the fandom, can express being themselves because they feel welcomed, because anyone else rejected them in the first place. So now you're trying to make me feel sorry or something? Or trying to say that those people joined furry community to be accepted? Then... why?
Look. If someone have a mental condition, it is certainly best for them to seek professional help. And they will be accepted. At least on the Internet (but by the other, real, living people), ah, bless the Internet because it's the only chance for some people. Running away in attempts to cope really isn't the best solution. It can backfire. Hard. And I can talk hours on that topic, just believe me, because I know.
Yeah, racism, sexism and homophobia are the serious flaws of modern society, especially in the more 'traditional' (backward) cultures. But it's the problem of that cultures.
Playing the 'accepting community', are you really sure that you can give those people what they need? Or you're giving them a false hope behind a mask?

Rho TefnutetMeowersJust don't say you was born a furry and suffered through the major part of your life because of it.
A lot of people do not seem to realize that plenty of furries are rejects from the society. I know a lot of furries who are handicapped, suffer mental disabilities (e.g. autism, Asperger), have different sexuality, were kicked from their homes, suffered serious trauma, are of different skin color, and so on. They became furries and joined the fandom, can express being themselves because they feel welcomed, because anyone else rejected them in the first place. There is a lot of reasons why people run into this sort of escapism and simply want themselves to be that way - usually making a new chapter in their lives, often even earning serious money from it. If not for the fandom, I wouldn't even known about Elite: Dangerous thanks to lack of funds to sustain at least minimal standards of being digital.
Then that same person claimed further victimhood when it turned out that no one wanted to roleplay in the alternative reality channel.
That's because furries are usually afraid that you all will go full Games Workshop - so they didn't want to go out. They have nowhere else to go so they stay silent, away from any roleplay section, because they aren't a billionaires who can throw money and create their own "furry" version of ED. What happened just proves their perception that reaching out to "normal" society will always meet with rejection and hostility.
Please don't say that you're making the case of "furries have had it rough so the rules don't apply to them."
First of all, you're dealing in gross generalizations. Second, you're infantalizing the hell out of them.
"Asking a furry to follow the rules is literally the same trauma and abuse that people can suffer because of being a minority of some sort."
Give me a break.

Rho Tefnutet... I feel you misread everything I've wrote, M. Lehman. I am not going to even bother about it then.
Then let's make things super simple:
Do the rules apply to furries?

Mayhaps more extreme measures of it are just as possible?

M4rth4Y'know, genetic and cosmetic modification is quite common in the Elite universe...
Yes, genetic and cosmetic modification does happen in E:D, but not to the extent that it changes the overall species of a human. If that happened, they would most likely be ostracized by the greater human society. Especially with the threat of Thargoids exasperating xenophobia for non-human intelligent life. All modifications are kept within the human biosphere (at bare minimum, in appearence).
In the end, Frontier have stated that the currently discovered races/species from E:D are canon and nothing else is, not even from past games. Thus, that's what we have that as a rule until FDev makes new lore stating otherwise.
None of us are against furies themselves. You do you. But, we will take issue when the established rules are ignored just because someone wants to act out their fursona as a non-canon species. Hell, my resident game-making furry friend understands that and still participates within the rules, they have a great compelling and complex character.
However, personally, I would make an exception if someone wrote a believable story that understood my first point and worked with that.

Rebecca HailAt this point, this entire discussion is low level bait.I guess any negotiations are futile. It's 'Furry' or 'Whine'. And also I think that many of them just don't care that other people may have to adjust their 'characters' to fit the rules as well.

M. LehmanI myself am astonished that this issue has persisted even with a dedicated space for non-lore-friendly roleplay. That craving for acceptance goes against words of their 'accepting society', so, again, they may have all the acceptance of the world... and it's still not the thing that they may actually need. A false hope behind a mask.

The irony is, you can absolutely roleplay a furry in a lore-friendly way. Because furries exist. They are humans loving to wear anthropomorphic animal costumes. Roleplay one of those, and I guarantee you, there will be no rejection here. Just like there won't be rejection based on ethnicity or sexual orientation.
What you can't do in a lore-friendly way is introduce your character as a member of an alien species, no matter what that species looks like.
TL;DR: Furries are not a lore problem, aliens are.
