Can't get any worse.

Just as long as we don't get anything from Dungeons and Dragons for drinks I think we're safe. >.>

I see a lot of people writing roleplay CMDR Logs. It seems kind of cool and I'm thinking about starting one. My question is: if your ship blows up, how would you write that off? How do YOU write it off, if at all. Does it adhere to the lore if I am piloting my ship through telepresence?

Escape pod.

There are a good few things in-game that don't track with storytelling .. .. or physics.
Most people that read on this site understand your difficulties.

Escape pod makes sense. Thanks!

Yeah, that 'telepresence' stuff was a massive nonsense.

It's easier just to separate logbook stories from game play. That's not to say don't base your logs off things you've done in game, but it's better to spin those events into a narrative rather than trying to translate game play mechanics into a story.

Yeah I'm still writing my character actually lol. I plan on taking my time with it.

Yeah, character first, events later.

No one wants to read "dear diary, today I did some missions then went to Robigo to make lots of money" after all.

But still major part of logbooks are dedicated to this.

When I tried to write about in-game events... Imagination was drained even before I hit 20 logs. It's too repetitive.

That's why I completely went away from in-game stuff when doing logbooks. Much easier to think of cool stories when you ignore the game entirely and create a story within the universe.

I completely agree, I enjoy the game but the characters people create will always be monumentally more interesting than a run through of game mechanics.

Yup. Game mechanics leaves much for imagination, because of being kind of... shallow. But perhaps a bit too much.

I appreciate all the insight.

I wouldn't be so quick to abandon the 'Dear Diary' approach. Blogs and vlogs are popular for a reason. Writing as if you (or your persona) is in the pilot's seat talking about what has happened today is a good way to get to grips with writing more story orientated logs.

I started writing with 'a diary to be read by others' style report of my days on the way to explore the rim. I quickly learned to embellish the logs with in-universe spins on sitting in a chair doing a mindless repetitive task because frankly, exploring while we were limited to the pilot's seat and SRV is pretty dull to read about. Even so, my diary entries encouraged a fair few people to contact me with messages of appreciation.

After that, I went to Colonia and wrote about that in a Rough Guide series that really was an in-universe Dear Diary. The trip there, and my experiences once I arrived, all earned positive feedback and were very much just diary entries.

That experience encouraged me to do a few interviews with Colonia Commanders to flex my creative muscles, and I think they worked very well, but it was the diary style Final Impression that got the most attention from readers.
