ButButBut, that's 1 of the main limtitations core to E:D lore, its being extremely limited.

In an entire galaxy, only 2 sentient species, human & 'Goid. No others. It is what it is, however implausible. That's what we're forced to work with if we're to remain lore-compliant.

There are alternatives... but not in E:D, nor in Inara, aside from the Alternative section.

I don't get why its so hard to just... abide by the most basic lore of the setting? Truly whats so hard about that? I don't go into a star trek RP and start bitching about thargoids and shit.

Why is it so hard to just be a normal person with a normal ship in abnormal circumstances? Thats what a story is, and its a story that fits within the framework of elite.

One little correction to this: Only 2 sentient space-faring species, humans and 'goids, with the third known one, the Guardians, being made extinct by their own creation.

There are other sentient species in Elite, but they are either put under special protection or gone extinct after being exposed to diseases us humans brought in.

Yes, congratulations, you managed it to recognize one of the fundamentals of the lore of E:D, Synthia.

As addendum, of these two races, there's only one viable for a character in RP. Such oppression, much limitation, how dare FDev make this lore.

Yes, a crux of my thesis here. Many of you (all) are failing in logic and debate, actually, and you fail to explore other angles in order to preserve your comfort zone. I can imagine you ((all) generally not specifically (veterans)) being here for years cultivating a psyche in a concrete tangible idea of a RP universe you co-created.. newbies come along. Outsiders.. who don't know all the social rules.. with their new fangled ideas of how to push the boundaries in the name of CREATIVE LICENCE...

Sorry to shake the place up a bit but I think you all need waking up from the monotony and routine of the prison of rules you've built for yourselves! Loosen UP already!!

I already feel like the "real world" is a dystopian twilight zone and "truth is stranger than fiction."

WHAT? No androids? No Thargoids? Sounds like a challenge.

I betcha I could make a Thargoid alt & RP that in places where it could have some chance of not being killed off at first sight...

As I've demonstrated with Sappho, my imagination & creativity is capable of thinking 'outside the box' doing so.

I think there is one misconception. Maybe it's obvious, but maybe it worth to be mentioned - NOBODY here has created the official lore of Elite (well, maybe there may be some FDevs, etc. lurking around, but generally the statement is true). Thus, due a respect to the game/universe authors, nobody feel entitled enough to change the universe that isn't their creation. In the opposite, they respect its authors and even they may have objections to some aspects, due such respect they do not alter and change the rules just because they think it's better for whatever reasons. Honestly, I also consider bending and changing the Elite's lore plainly rude to Frontier and their designers and writers (despite the fact that I also think some stuff can be made differently).

So there are two choices - respect Elite's authors and their creation or not. For the first choice there are the established RP threads. For the other choice there is the newly created thread. It's simple as that and there is no need to reiterate this discussion over and over, because it will change absolutely nothing.

So, let me try to summarize what is lore-friendly:

1) a Human, s/he doesn't even need to be a pilot him/herself but a barkeeper or shopowner.
2) a non-sentient android/gynoid. Borrowing a term from Mass Effect it should be a virtual intelligence (VI), not an actual AI, as the latter is banned due to event in the past of Elite. Should be an alt though as it needs an owner.

Would this sum things up correctly?
