Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

A C EnderIs there some smart/easy way to follow a certain characters story here? For example, I've been keeping up with some of what have happened with and around Creamy, but have some (probably) large gaps in the storyline. I'm not just asking about this specific example, but keeping up with others stories that may be spread over multiple sub-forums, logbooks etc.

Only if writers leave links to their previous / edit & put links to next posts, I guess...
Arc with me, JB and Creamy started around here and I tried to put links to keep things integral.

...or asking someone directly, maybe they keep their own tracks.

Meowers covered it.
I was thinking about that as I read back through the story from meeting Nerys.
From now on I'm gonna put a link from my last post and to the next post is each entry.
Even knowing where to look, it's a trick to track across pages and (if I write a big solo bit) logs.

Aditional

A link to the Commander page of everyone involved in the current story at the top of each post should help people know who else is contributing to the story.

Thank you both, that's what I thought.

Maybe something that could be worth considering is having a log book with chronological links to each post (or if that feel excessive, each segment/chapter) of a story would be really useful for people who want to read it later or for your own sake keeping track? In the case of Creamy: Meeting Nerys, Spaceship romance, Getting attacked, Motel hiding, The escape, Pirate interlude, ... , Kidnapped, rescue, Stranded (current)

No, I like the idea of having a reference log.
That’s something I could keep personal and offer to people that want to read 'back issues' so to speak.

If you do, consider myself interested in reading "back issues"!

Is there a template, so to speak, for logs? I'd kind of like to work on the story for my commander, but don't really know where to begin.

You're talking about 'biography' or a story with your character involved?

Both, actually. Probably biography first then embellish it with stories later.

I suggest looking at the bios of characters that you see often in RP pages. But from what I see, having two 'parts', a 'summary' and long 'how did you end up that way' for those who interested is the best way to do it.
And the stories... There's no 'hard' limits except sticking to the lore and events that 'could take place in this universe'.

I've been following the RP between Vayle and Ridge, who seem to be doing the kind of RP I like. Tangible, believable characters, following a lore-friendly and intriguing plot. Props to those guys for doing it well! They've both got examples of what I would consider well-rounded bios, covering exactly what Meowers outlined.

As for the logbooks, from what I've read it seems that you can be much more loose with the lore. Obviously, if you're doing RP with others there needs to be common understanding and agreement on the fundamentals of the lore, as you need to have respect for the setting and those who wish to play in it. But your logbooks are your own indulgence - if people like your angle, they'll follow your writing. If not, they'll pass it by.

Many thanks for following! I'm really glad you're enjoying it.

Cool, so just do a bit of reading to see how my style can blend in. I'm not overly worried about lore since I don't intend to write myself into any significant events or claim royal lineage.

Well, my logbooks are based on in-game activities. Last one can tell why I'm bald now, phah. However, I'm planning on wrapping up this story at a certain event that is really close now, because there's not much to write about, even if it's the combat zone action grind. But I must admit that in-game actions and my responses to CGs and various events was a good thing that was driving the story for a few months. So I'll make it a concluded story arc about 'building up my character' to write something 'more fictional' later. Still with me as the primary character and from my point of view, but less tied to what I do in game.

p.s. To cut things short - if you want to try yourself at writing logbooks, you may begin with describing what (and why) you do in game. But... Well. There's too many logs about 'I went there and did this and that'. Boring af. Make your imagination running.
Also I can point you to things that I can recommend personally, if you want.

That was the plan, to create a bit of a tale explaining how he got to this point. While not being as dry as a wikipedia page. The one hangup I had was worrying about the dates. Inara doesn't keep track of things for very long and I didn't write anything down as it happened. So I'll probably have to make stuff up.

Ah, don't worry. It isn't Wikipedia. Just make a good read out of everything you want to put into the logs. My logs still lack the mentions of buying a carrier (but this is really a major game progression event), for example. It's all because I want to end the arc as it was planned, but certain game mechanics was standing on my way.
