Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

Simon Datura Consuela's tamales will exist, I promise.

They better!

Is there much left of this deliberately bad RP? Only I'm more keen to see how things play out between Rachel and Stryker, plus I'm deliberately holding off on having Luke and Lilith bump into each other as I'd rather not have such a meeting spoiled by a guy with a magic hat and t-shirt if that's ok?

It's kinda a big deal for me as it's going to be setting the tone between them while I write up the backstory...

In fairness, he's done a fine job of nailing the "tone" of RP in those channels for months.

Haha, to be honest, I would argue the same thing is going on for Ten and Cartlidge. If you just accept the way the thread goes it takes a fair amount of weight off of your shoulders in terms of trying to maintain what should have originally been a rather tense situation.

What I would've wanted was a couple of human security personnel to show up and have Cartlidge enact an elaborate plan to cover up the would-be murder, but instead I got an awkward little security drone. Honestly I've been having fun reading Stryker's posts, going "Aw shit" and then having to sit for a few minutes and think of how to react.

Oh I'm not denying that. As I said I'm actually quite interested in following the Stryker and Rachel arc. It's pretty funny at times.

I only ask because, as I said, having both my characters bump into each other is something I'm keen to do but just not while the tone is currently at "wacky" lol.

And don't worry Cartlidge, you're getting your human personnel soon. Just check the Citi Gateway =P

Hmm.... I've been out of the RP forums for quite a while. There are currently 117 unread posts in the galactic bar and 52 on the docks. Anything good going on that I should go through reading them all for?

Yes.

Uhhh, a dead body, a cyborg with a lot of blood on her hand, a guy with a magic hat and an Aisling Duval wannabe.

That oughta clear things up a bit maybe?

There's a lot to be said for just writing one's own stories. I've got nothing against RP- but any fictional situation featuring only protagonists is bound to eventually get awkward and clunky.

An approach that I admire is what Jemine Caesar does- her logbooks are the product of RP via PMing that gets used as the raw material for a conventional story's dialogue. That's why her conversations feel so organic in comparison to the RP boards (not that that's any of your faults- you're doing the best you can with what you have!).

I think that Stryker's recent posts have to do with the frustrations and challenges of RPing in general- where no one is going to die or get hurt too badly, where no one wants to be anything except the clever hero, and where the temptation to snowflake the hell out is amplified tenfold.

Hit the nail right on the head. The drone needs to be taken care of. I was hoping that Cartridge would put a bullet in it, and there is one last major post. It wraps it all up, and is mostly finished, but does not include anyone in this RP, then it's back to the status quo.

And there is a point to all of this, I just hope it comes through.

No worse than the blurb on the back of an admittedly weird book

@M. Lehman: I'm not critiscising. I went down that route just a couple of pages ago. I was merely enquiring as to how long he intends to keep it up is all.

With the hero thing, with Marra (our resident villian) taking a sabbatical I had decided to, (after suggestions from other members here) step in with my own villian. One whom I can use to call on, shall we say, disposable characters, in order to have there be some sort of stakes involved.

As for writing ones own stories? I can do factual documents, discussive essays, even Biographies. But story writing was never my strong point. RPing feels much easier and comes more naturally to me as I only really need to decide on one side of each tale, and react accordingly upon each response. That said, I do have a story in the works although it's mostly just to establish how Luke and Lilkith know each other and why things between them are the way they are...

No worries, as I said, was just asking.

And as for the drone, I'm kinda glad Jacob didn't as I had considered using it as a way to drag Lilith in momentarily

Thank you, Matt, much appreciated.

I was planning on offing the drone, which is why I tried to lead it away, but if you want to use it, Luke, then by all means.
