Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

I don’t recall the system. Just happened to be that the main star was a neutron without bodies, and the M class about 33k ls distant. I think the stellar forge had gotten the distances wrong because of the neutron star.

Either way, curious where you’re going with it. Will we find out whether the FSD malfunction was pure happenchance and bad luck, or due to sabotage? (More me voicing an internal thought than expecting to be told… yet.)

to meowers yes that is more or less the gist of it lol. however a malfunctioning FSD/ nav system might just pick out some anomaly and jump to it. or rather in this case the FSD triggered for a star system further out malfunctioned and dropped the characters in the most unlikely of places, all while polling gravitational data and managed to pick out a gravity anomaly and focused on it instead.

MeowersYeah, that's quite interesting. Rogue planets are a thing, and some scientists claim there are more of them than stars out there, yet, you may guess, they're mostly frozen rocks. And, unreachable and untrackable with Elite's navigation technology that uses a central star of a system as a target point for a jump (also, here goes the boring explanation of jumps essentially being loading screens etc.).
Yes, rouge planets and bodies are a thing, sometimes i wonder how much it has to do with all the so called missing matter what scientists don't find, the so called dark matter. And no it cannot explain all not nearly enough.
About jumps, how does the logics of it works, is the same with low wake a high enough mass gravity field disturbs the jump drive so in essence we just get plucked out from witch space by a star, basically just got interdicted by it in a more regulated ways since the on board instruments sensing the gravity field, and drop us out. At the old games it happened on the verge of a solar system when the effect of the gravity field was started to felt, but that also means long times get to any planet so later on with the advancements in technology they were changed it near to the star what was impossible previously.

I presume the latter since it works for black holes, but it could also be using the absence of light as a reference point. Or, perhaps, it uses both. Given that it generally locks on to the heaviest object in a system, though… (noticeable when you drop into one with a trinary star system where two orbit each other, but the ‘primary’ star on its own has higher mass than either of the two, even if both companion stars have higher mass combined)
Anyway, just making guesses. If it’s stated somewhere how the FSD locks on to a target without nav beacon presence, the wiki probably has that info.

Kasumi GotoI think the FSD basically opens wormholes through Witch Space and either uses a light source or gravitational pull to lock on and drop out into the [our] universe near.
Gravitational pull can be a multidimensional phenomena all quantum phenomena is. I also though of this related to some things beyond explanation such a spooky interaction at a distance and quantum teleportation whereas they don't really teleport but shift to another dimension or reality, than drop back to ours. This actually can explain a lot of question about quantum psychic. But the light of a star? NAH! Don't forget, the witch space is not in our 3d universe.

Silvia SharpeIt is based off the Alcubierre Drive. Meaning it shifts space around the individual in order to move the at faster than light speeds.
In supercruise, I’ve heard. I was referring to the hyperspace jump component more.
(And thanks for the link, but I’m enough of a space nerd to be familiar with the basic idea of the Alcubierre drive concept and how sci-fi shows and games use it in various ways.)

Hi wake is a lil more complicated, in essence as much i know just low wake amped up and focused, till breaks the dimensional barrier. Thargoids using an entirely different method with creating artificial wormholes which is also has a somewhat similar effect as any large mass. That's why they are capable to hyperdict their method unlike ours casts a huge shadow to witch space and thus can pluck us out.
