Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

Lol, I'm just an intruder who slapped himself in the bar then pestered Jacob. Now I'm all caught up in this mess, and I'm pretty sure I've lost my Buckyball Baseball cap somewhere along the line.

I'm a little bit cranky about the security drone thing (since I now have to deal with it), but otherwise it has been most enjoyable to have you weigh in on this little crisis, Stryker.

I'm curious to see what you come up with to handle the situation.

Well you can't say you weren't warned =P

*Gasp* Luke3107 is asking yet ANOTHER question!!!

I've searched the lore, albeit fairly briefly and specifiucally regarding Earth and I can't find much info. In my most recent Lilith post (The Docks in case you're wondering) I simply say "Old Earth Countries" in order to reference Switzerland as a neutral area. But would these countries still exist do you think? Or would the entire planet be considered "One Country" owing to the fact that the idea of individual borders would seem incredibly trivial.

To put it simply using Earth as an example. When saying where you are from would you say "Scotland, Earth" or just "Earth" as Scotland (or indeed ANY country) would no longer exist?

Let's see if I can get them out of the drone situation without getting maimed in the process.

You guys all act like I can't handle my own messes.

No worries Cartlidge. Since you were silent, was trying to help out.

Even if they don't exist as sovereign nations, they would still be geographical, cultural or administrative areas.

Just as people do today, they might identify with their locality over the larger political entity they are part of.

And I don't hold with the idea of a borderless world; it would be a bureaucratic nightmare!

Potentially, I think that to the people of earth, having sections, countries , districts, whatever... would be rather important to them, but just to them. If you were say born in a different system on a different earth-like, it might not matter and you might not care about the different districts of earth, because it does not pertain/have an effect on you.

This is just my take on it.

Considering that there was another world war in the Elite Lore which devastated vast parts of earth + the passing of 1300 it's more likely that none of these cultures exist anymore

At least not in todays form.

The form might indeed change, but history has shown us that culture is resiliant. Italy, China, Japan and Egypt still have a cultural identity that has lasted for thousands of years, despite suffering terrible devastation at some point. It's common culture than brings people together when in crisis.

You only have to look at the names of the stations and ports in-game to see that historic people and places of our cultures are still remembered.

Yes, indeed. And I assume that knowledge about those cultures is well preserved as we're much more advanced than the people back then.

Unfortunately the same thing goes for the devastation. According to the wiki WW3 consequences were a huge loss of life and dreadful damages to the environment, so it's well possible that entire cultures were annihilated in the process. Not forgotten, but simply not practiced or common knowledge anymore.

All I ask is that Frontier accept my/our head canon that Mexican food has survived into the 34th century. I want a future worth living in.

I accept this proposal. Mexican food will survive the centuries.

Consuela's tamales will exist, I promise.
