whilst that may seem like a good idea , i can see new cmdr's posting ''hi'' then being showered with ''join us'' mail

that happens even without posting on a forum, on private msg xD

indeed but i was refering to the combination of effects (which when only 1/2 are quoted omits the meaning) if copious threads were available without joining a wing.

I ignore join requests anyway, we are invited only have enough members for now.

If I were ol' Davey Braben, I'd be hiring one or two people just to work on skins. Have 'em design a bunch of "okay" ones (read: kinda like those Vibrant skins - you know, the ones most of us bought purely because they were the only other skins available?), and use those as free samples/giveaways to lure people into the game.

Yes, just like heroin dealers do!

The thought process behind it: Get a free skin or two, rock 'em because they're different than stock, but then you start looking at that White Rail 'job for your Eagle. It looks REALLY nice, and it's not that expensive! It's not gonna hurt to buy it...

Before you know it? BAM! Little Johnny's hooked on paint skins, robbin' old ladies to support his pixelated habit! Works for SWTOR all the time!

If Team Fortress 2 can make tons of money on hats, I see no reason why ED devs should skimp on ship skin variety. And the bobbleheads are a good direction to go on that front, too - more internal ship decorations to really make one's space unique. Related to this, see what the Euro Truck Simulator 2 dev's did with the Cabin Accessories DLC.

Speaking of buying things: I'm looking at these screenshots of Horizons and it looks great and all, but I really want to wait for crafting to be implemented to make the purchase worthwhile. Hopefully we'll have a better trade mechanism by then too so I can be a full-blown merchant. Sell all y'all some whoopie fuel to improve yo' gas mileage or something. I like being a merchant.

I remember the good old days when games were <$30, came in a box with artwork, sometimes patches, you had a mission editor, character editor, paint editor (or any combination thereof). I wouldn't mind paying for a paint editor, STO includes a great character/ship editor, I think it is the best part of the game, lol.

I still remember when I first got Dragon Warrior for the NES, and how it came with a thick booklet, a strategy guide, and two posters.

Today, you get digital versions of everything, and in the event you actually buy a game in the store you just get the disk and a bunch of warranty papers, MAYBE a quick-reference guide; if it's a PC game, the only thing in the box will likely be a piece of paper with a Steam key - or worse, a disk with install details for Steam.

To be honest, I do miss those days when game booklets were encyclopedias (remember the Starcraft or any of the Maxis game books?), but that just means that a game must be really special to have a reason for a physical representation of it in your home. And I cannot deny the ease of game management via a platform like Steam.

I never much went for the consoles though I had several, SEGA, NES, Atari, 3DO, Playstation, and XBox but mostly my younger brother and later kids were on those. I've always been a PC guy way back to the DOS games on 5.25 and 3.5, before the CDs. TBH, I like the convenience of the Steam library (when it works smoothly). Sometimes having a decent manual in your hands is faster than the internet. I remember the Maxis manuals, Sims manuals were also pretty large. Others earlier in the week mentioned the old Falcon 4.0, 688i, and Jane's manuals.

I guess its the idea, too, of having something substantial, in hand, that represents a now $60 +\- investment.

Is anyone out there old enough to remember Star Trek coming with IBM DOS 3.0? Or, remember DOS games when they were really nothing more than keyboard symbols and/or word-story games? How about when the Commodore 64 came out and we could actually code our own games with actual graphics? Good times.

Yeah. I started programming on the ZX81, moving characters about in BASIC and machine code. All done in 1K of memory!
Sigh! - takes me back....

I know my husband talks about Commodore 64 and trying to build a game but had the boarders all messed up. Yes those where the days.

Its a good idea. Have posted that idea to Frontier to see if they might go for that?

It would be a nice feature to have but Frontier has more than enough on their plate at this point to talk about implementing a trading interface. Hell, I'd be happy if they just fixed the T9's ginormous HUD.

traiding between cmdr's is not going to happen , at least for a long time. it was discussed back in alpha/beta days and was decided as a no go area to avoid ''gold farmers''
