Elite: Game talk

Ryan MurdocAnd just that we're clear on the subject:

Hitting ESC and waiting 15 seconds and then going back to the Main Menu or out of the game entirely is not Combat Logging (as much as some people like to declare it to be). It's a viable option by the game, and 15 seconds is a hell of a lot time to be shot to smitherines still.

Pulling the plug out of the wall or CTRL-ALT-DEL and shutting down the game that way is considered CL.

Further discussion is meaningless unless FD itself makes changes. Perhaps with 3.0, needs to be seen.

Well, in my book logging out of the game during combat whether it is to the main menu or shutting down the game IS combat logging if the purpose is to avoid the end result of said combat. It is cowardly, a game exploit and a disgrace. Fair enough if you disagree. Even if an action is a viable option within the game, it is still not honouring the combat (i.e. the game situation) you are in, runs contrary to the game´s purpose and therefore it is an exploit to use it.

Put simply, if you don´t want to risk your ship or cannot stand loosing a PvP encounter, play in Solo. Or if you want to/need to play in Open, accept the game´s conditions for doing so.

Scorpions Order have a few very active players which sadly are notorious combat loggers, but I must add that there are also some very honourable players flying with them or supporting them. Salute to those commanders!

TrevathewiseI am kind of new to building my own ships and engineering. I have gotten a lot of help from quite a few people but I was wondering if anyone in the community could help me out?

I have a FDL with x2 Med Seeker Missiles, x2 Med Pulse Lasers and a Huge Pulse Laser. I do not have them engineered yet outside of a stage 3 ammo upgrade for the missiles. I do not do well with fixed weapons (I hit 1/4 Plasma accelerators and have yet to hit with the railgun.) Needless to say I am not the best combat pilot. However I have been told that with this ship I should be able to last and deal out significant damage.

Does anyone have any ideas that may help me out other than "Get better!"?

Thank You in advance I appreciate any and all help.

Excellent!  An aspiring FDL driver.

Two missiles and three pulse lasers is a fun build.  If you're not good with fixed, go ahead rock gimbal for a while as you learn to fly the ship.  Slowly you can treat the gimbals like fixed weapons then eventually just switch to fixed.

Ammo upgrades are the way to go with missiles.  I'd set up two fire groups with lasers plus one missile launcher on each.  That way you can make your missiles last even longer and not risk them exploding each other if you fire them together.

Efficient pulses with a mix of effects are generally smiled upon.  I'd go emissive and scramble on the mediums then nothing on the huge (keep that DPS up).

Two questions!

1) What ships have you flown before?  I'd like an idea of what you're used to flying.

2) What do you like to shoot?  NPCs?  Players?  Little bit of everything?

1) I have flown quite a few ships. Ranging from Sidewinder, Python, FDL, Clipper, FAS and so on. I don't like feeling weighed down so I went with the FDL. I like the utility of the Clipper but it's wide wing span make it harder to shoot at smaller ships. Eagles seem to pick it apart rather quickly.

2) I am not a PVP player. I usually submit and run if interdicted, rarely do I actually fight because I am in the middle of doing something. So I usually only fight NPC.

I really enjoyed the clipper but as I stated it gets picked apart by small ships really easily because of its wide wingspan it seems the lasers don't hit as often. I run x2 large pulse and x2Med seekers on it so same basic setup as my FDL. My FDL has 954 Shields and 808 Hull, 18.56LY jump range. I don't really have it engineered much yet. Just the FSD and what not. The easy stuff.

1)  Nice!  How are you liking the FDL compared to those?  I notice some folks that fly "turning fighters" like the Vulture or the FAS sometimes have trouble with the FDL early on.  Since you're coming from a Clipper, you're probably already used to the knife-fight-dive-bombing nature of the FDL.  Or not.  You tell me.

2)  Ok, good.  Your build will do very nicely against NPCs.  Shields and hull are sounding good and that jump range is basically god-roll for an FDL.  If you don't have tier 3 Dirties from Farseer yet, I'd recommend those next.  Get yourself some joy, yeah?

We could go on and on about what is honorable or just in this game. Everyone has a different perspective, and the whole circle-jerking of each side has become tiresome over the years.

I always fly in Open myself, but I'm also in a position where I don't need to worry about credits anymore. That said, I'm not a PvP person and never will be. I acknowledge that others find delight in testing their mettle against others, but due to the instancing issues and aforementioned different perspectives it's something so unbalanced that the only conclusion is to create a toxic environment for everyone involved.

You will also discover over time that certain individuals are just putting up a facade, completely deceiving others of their true intentions and actions. They will use the words Honor or Justice whenever it suits their needs, but when it comes to live up to such values they completely and utterly fail to deliver. And if you try to call them out on that, their peers will quickly turn up and put you down.  Them being just as crooked as their glorified rolemodels.

These are the true Combat loggers in my book. Kind of sad you only learn over time whom you shouldn't have trusted in the first place.

But what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and overcoming obstacles only leaves you more resilient and vigilant for future challenges. And it makes you value the friendship and camaraderie of those people who stay by your side and face whatever comes.

I run as cool as possible. So I run clean drives and a clean Power plant. PP is only stage 1 but my drives are a bit higher I think. It's how I keep from over heating with 3 lasers running constantly. I was thinking about switching them over to efficient beam lasers though. I was told I could dump out more DPS that way.

He's right, you know.

In fact, you'll find that there is even a wing right here on Inara that used to hide its BGS presence behind an in-game faction name with the word "justice" in it! Talk about being on the nose!

Though what any of that has to do with combat logging (let alone "true" combat logging) is beyond me. Thankfully we have Ryan to explain these things.

Stryker AuneArtie,
can we get a clean up on all the shit posts here?

It's becoming an eyesore, and difficult to weed out legitimate questions and concerns.

Shit, Kind of a good point, actually...

I'm a PS4 player and has been writing this LOG of my story, as a mini sci-fi novel with some ekstra stuff to keep it immersed. Some of cause has nothing to do with the game, but it's something my mind can't let go while enjoying the REAL lore and gameplay of Elite Dangerous.

Been putting quite some time in it, so if anyone would like to read and follow, please do.
- I would appreciate a "shiny" one on my entries

What do you guys think?

PLANET COORDINATES QUESTION:

In all my flying never had to get to very specific coordinates on planet surface. Surface Scan Missions, etc., have always sort of directed me to general areas. Is it possible to set planet surface coordinates specifically in Galactic/System Map so that when traveling around, I get right to the neighborhood without wasting time trying to get to XX-YY coordinates, or, am I stuck having to drop at planet and make my way manually, can't seem to locate a space in mapping that will let me plug specific coordinates, thanks, folks.

There is no in-game feature, but there are several third party tools that will help. No sure what"s current, but they should be easy enough to find.
