Elite: Game talk

Tigon Ologdring I am a Lord of Midnight though, a follower of the Singleton and not a devout Brabenite, although I am of the Shinto mind on this one: they are not mutually exclusive. Ergo a LoM I must remain, for now.

Well, there is an Elite - LoM connection in the form of Drew Wagar, author of several official Elite books, who is also currently working on the LoM novel!

And for the record, yes there is a smidgen of Shareth the Heartstealer in my character Marra!

Tigon OlogdringIf my back was inclined to hirsuteness then I dare say that it would most likely be of the silver variety. I am a Lord of Midnight though, a follower of the Singleton and not a devout Brabenite, although I am of the Shinto mind on this one: they are not mutually exclusive. Ergo a LoM I must remain, for now.

LOL hirsuteness... I'm stealing that one

You sound happy where you are for sure. That's awesome.

Indeed, Drew has made a few posts over in the land of Midnight/MU. Sadly the novel has slipped until next year meaning it won't make the original target of being published for the Solstice. Of course, it's only sad in the sense of the nice link-in with the Winter Solstice bit but good in as much as he's not rushing it simply for a deadline. Something about stuff happening elsewhere I think... ahem.

I've also named most of my "fleet" for the series, or derived names. My Beluga, should I ever bother to acquire one, will carry the name "Queen of Imiriel"

Darth, steel away. Happy? Eh, just roll with whatever (unless in a LAKON and then you simply YAW!!)

Skyfyre70I remember a time when there was no internet, no cell phones, CRT monitors where a craze. Windows 98 was the best OS Ever! Gas was a buck. The only power windows you had was your elbow. You had to be in the house when the street lamps turned on. MTV played music videos! Before that was we had 5 TV channels. REAL Sat. morning cartoons. You didn't need a degree in engineering to work on your car. VCRs where $600. Calculators where (the cheap ones) where $300.
Geez Im an old geezer. I haven't reached the GET OFF MY LAWN! yet but I'm getting close.

Kids these days, have no idea. Their faces are glued to their phones texting to the person sitting next to them.

Python references aside...

Windows 98? Pah!

Mid-way into my gaming journey, I used to play Falcon 3 in DOS 5 using (initially) a 2400 modem to direct connect for ladder matches. This was very pre-web, so matches were arranged via a bulletin board, quite similar in many ways to Inara. I had to make sure that my girlfriend didn't answer the phone when a game was about to start.

I remember the first time a computer game could have multiple sound effects going at the first time.   When I moved the car forward the engine would make a sound and another sound would play over it when it hit something!

It was mind blowing.

I was too young to remember the name. But you flew a hover ship and played capture the flag with bumbper cars essentially

That game was very appropriately called "Hover" and I was completely goddam HOOKED on that thing!! =D

Yea Hover!  Man me too.   The game I was playing before that was a green helicopter that flew over green pixil landscapes.  Flying to the end of the screen loaded the next landscape lol.   Mind you I think the computer we had before the hover computer was dated even for it's time

Win98 may have sucked, but at least it wasn't Win95.
13 Oct 2017, 10:31pm
Oh come on now, Win 98 SE was solid, until Microsoft decided to stop supporting it that is.

The youth of today will never know the debacle that was Windows Me.

Look here, Matt. You do not swear like that in public. We do not mention the W- ME word.

Is that the same as windows CE because I actually still have a mini laptop that runs on that. Gave it to my daughter and she loves it, no idea why.

I think every generation has their own hellish OS. I'd say mine is Windows Vista. What a shitshow.
14 Oct 2017, 12:30am
No, Windows CE is different. It was essentially a more compact version of Windows for various devices like thin terminals, PDAs, etc.

Windows ME was basically Windows 98 with a coat of Windows 2000 paint thrown at it, and it was a terrible mess of bugs and all sorts of nonsense.

8 and 8.1 were also legends in their own (short but chaotic) lifetimes.
