Draxxa Kiretheuhm...Type 10....

empty Hull mass 1200 Ton, yet only Class 7 thrusters and class 6 powerplant, distributor etc.......ouch....

It's not like they knew about the Thargoid threat and could prepare right? They had to rush manufacturing...

but is it me, or do others see advantage in this ship?

They prepared, just turns out those preparations were the wrong ones.

It looks like it could be a great Thargoid hunter. Have to see what those folks do with it.

in any case for example in Leesti there are all new buyers with theis shiny new ships......easy targets for pirates

Doubt they'd have anything worth stealing though, unless you're just looking to test the Type-10's armor

'Tis an armed merchant cruiser. Put cruiser guns on a merchantman all you like, but you can only squeeze so much combat ability out of cargo ship's hull.

for merchant i would rather go for the Cutter...with 750 tons cargo, still shielded, and at least you can make a run for it

..i stand corrected...according to Inara's Shipyard it's a class 8 PowerPlant

No, it's a combat ship.

In-game description:

Utilising a reinforced Type-9 chassis as a starting point, Lakon overhauled and geared every aspect of the design for combat, producing a military behemoth that could be produced in volume at short notice.

ScorpionCalteru, I suggest that yo go and play EVE on line until the devs fill the sandbox up a bit for you.
After only 2 weeks in the game I am surprised that you can't  find anything to do.

With ship names like "Tenacity" and "Ambition"  I would have thought that you would want to at least increase your Combat "harmless,  Trade "merchant,  Exploration "pioneer" ranks
Also there is,   Imperial rank "none"  Federation rank "none"

I played EvE for four years. It's a great game but I wanted to be in a cockpit for a while. I'm not grinding ranks for powers because I didn't want to subscribe to any. I don't care anything for the Empire or the Federation. I prefer independence. I like choosing my own path. EvE made me pick sides and I got bored of that. It's nice being on my own. It would also be nice if there was more to do with what I discover but if this game isn't going to add the staple stuff I'm used to I'm not going to go on a crusade over it or anything. I'll just play something else when I get bored here. There's plenty of space games. I constantly find myself playing the X series for example.

The first picture in that article you linked has two merchant marine ships fighting.  The one that fired first?

SMS Greif.

Too funny.

EDIT: Historical inaccuracy.

Armed merchant cruisers were combat ships also. I wouldn't take one into the line of battle with me, but they do in the absence of something better. The Germans used them in the world wars as commerce raiders in the absence of more capable dedicated warships. They used the element of surprise because a merchant ship can't stand up in a sustained battle with a real warship. The aux cruiser Kormoran was even able to destroy an Australian light cruiser in a mutually destructive battle. The aux cruiser Pinguin managed to destroy or capture 137,000 tonnes worth of shipping. The British used armed merchant cruisers as anti-submarine warfare ships, and they also converted a number of bulk cargo ships and oil tankers into ad hoc aircraft carriers to support Atlantic materiel convoys.

I made an observation early on, that the Type-10 would be a great Q-ship. Have an installable transmitter that spoofs a Type-9 indentification, when a pirate gets too close out come the big guns. Elite could use a good Q-ship.

Yet another observation I made was that it would make a good merchant aircraft carrier. Give it the ability to launch multiple NPC controlled fighters, especially AX Taipans, and it would make an interesting centerpiece to a wing.
