Elite: Game talk

Good morning o7

Artie, if I'm not mistaken you don't really like to see it when people create multiple INARA accounts for the sake of trying to infiltrate other Wings, is that correct? For it kinda defeats the purpose of your website, not even mentioning that such behaviour doesn't belong in a game like E:D.

This should probably be a PM to Artie. I personally don't want to see your dirty laundry.

Before you say it, I can't find the Block button.

The espionage meta-game has its place and is thriving in ED as much as it is in other popular space-based MMO's.

Personally, I don't see the issue. Any medium that pits groups of players against each other, either directly or by proxy, will see this kind of thing develop.

The trick is not drawing attention to yourself or your group, which just invites trouble.

Don't worry, that thing will come one day, and it'll make the whole of Inara better for it. Finally some peace of mind and eyesight.

Until then, we just have to endure.

And don't worry, lessons were learned in the past not to discuss certain topics openly on the forums. Because: people.

ROD CRESTWOOD My risk tolerance is low right now (in ED). ...

Thing is that except CG sites (actually, only CG systems and Erevate are dangerous. other mentioned further are "maybe"), Engineers sites, Shinrata, Erevate, PP capitals and last community exploration hotspots you have 1000x higher chance to kill yourself with some pilot error,  than encounter hostile cmdr. Open play is also about "local" knowledge ... if you know that on next jump you enter potentially dangerous system, your chances to survive (in open) rises exponentially. Experienced pilot can in ED dictate how risky experience he want to have (while he can stay in open all the time). And there is imo only one working way how to learn this ... play in open

Hmm.

Hmm.

...

On an unrelated subject, has anyone ever sent an email message at work that wasn't really addressed to anyone in the To: line, but was addressed to someone in the CC: line? I have to do things like that all the time.

I have no problem with multiple accounts, there may be a very valid reason for that. But, yes, I don't like a creation of multiple accounts just for the purpose of spying on another wings too much. There are some mechanics to warn on possible multiple accounts on wing join requests and wings can handle it on their own. But beyond that, there isn't too much other options, so it is in the hands of wings. If any wing discovers or has a suspicion there is a spy among their ranks, they can (for example) do a "validity check" in the game and eventually expel such member, etc. The technical options are limited, so any check won't be 100% until there will be "guilds" directly in the game (and even then it doesn't prevent infiltration if player has multiple game accounts).

Isaiah EvansonLearn to fight. If you can't learn to fight, learn how to run. Learn what to look for and what to avoid.

It's a cutthroat galaxy out there. Treat it as such, and you'll go further than you would if you don't.

Just as an illustration of this (courtesy of Artie’s new combat log) ....7 days in open....30 interdiction attempts...all NPC...2 succeeded, and I boosted and highwaked with no drama

In the interest of fairness though, maybe report back when you get interdicted by a fully engineered FDL and let us know the results of that too? Boosting away from an NPC and high-waking is probably the Elite equivalent of celebrating 1st place in the 50cc Grand Prix on Mario Kart...

I get this whole "Learn to High-Wake" business, it's good advice, but seriously, any Engineered combat ship, in the hands of someone remotely capable, can melt a trade/exploration vessel before the FDL Cooldown & Charge Up is completed. I get the impression many people forget to account for that.

Just some food for thought is all.

This is why vetting is important. A small, trusted group is far more reliable than a huge group of randoms.

I play on Xbox and I play almost always in OPEN. I have 1 week and 14 hours of game time logged, or at least that what it says in my stats window. I have gathered in my short time around 500 mil in assets, I currently have 4 ships, a Python, a Type-7, a Diamondback Explorer, and a Federal Assault ship, all of which are A rated and some have very light G1-G3 engineering mods done. I am willing to loose any of them in a fight because I learned very early that to have fun in this game you need to understand one fundamental and that is "money comes quickly and goes even faster." My only regret is that I wish I would have left Erevate system earlier because other systems are far more lucrative.

Just for the record, I have never been to Quince or to Rhea. I do however, have a system that I call home and its very lucrative for all sorts of trade. My wing has a system in which I go and help build our faction up but when not on an event I return home. I travel in about a 350ly box between wing system, my system, and engineers that I have currently unlocked and I will be honest.... I never see any players online with the exception of my own wing members and even that is pretty rare. I just don't see the fear in playing in OPEN, I hope to make the move to PC later this year which I am sure has a larger player base so maybe that will change. Isn't there only 2 rules to fly in Open, RULE #1 Don't fly without a rebuy and RULE #2 Please reread Rule #1

I look forward to my first PVP battle and I know I will probably lose unless I get lucky. Not necessarily because of skill but because I know that player has had exponentially more time to develop not only their skills but engineer a ship to do exactly what they want to do.
