Atusia DuvalGood armor is a prerequisite for AX combat.
Not being shot at is better than having lots of armour. Of course you need some in case things go crappy or you want to finish off the thing fast and plainly overpower it. Yet manoeuvring, awareness and thermal control are what I think the main stuff here.

(or maybe there are different guidelines for large ships, no idea here)

It's odd that I still carry that tier 5 repair thingy to the starport scenarios. AXCZs, yeah, sometimes it gets needed there. Either I'm too lazy or there's some superstition I can't yet articulate properly lol. Though, logically, I'd rather swap it for tier 5 HRP and the cargo rack for tier 2 MRP for station defence.

I also carry Flak. But I rarely need it at all. It's easier to outmanoeuvre those pests. But something makes me feel more comfortable when I know I have it, and I can use it where there's no other option. I'm weird.

ThinderMandalay is already on the INARA list of ships and apparently one can purchase them for credit...

I got 78.57 Ly out of my Stellar so far and haven't really been pushing weight saving, with some fine tuning she should reach the 80/85 Ly Jump Range...


Mine is now at just above 82 Ly and I'm happy with that

Thinder My next move with down-sized D Power Plant, same philosophy than the Krait Phantom; Light and Fast.


A smaller A-rated power plant is going to be lighter and more powerful than a larger D-rated one. Not to mention cooler and stronger. It's just better on every metric. Same goes for thrusters.

There is a good case for long-range D-rated sensors over A-rated lightweight, and you might skimp on life support and also go D rated in some cases, but the golden rule is to get the A-rated module that does the job.

By all means you do you, it's the fun of the game, but you'll be spending a lot on engineering to find out the ship isn't as good as it could be.

I second Aunty's advice -- and the "you do you" sentiment, when it comes down to it. I did figure out how to (mostly) get my planned (Target) MD build on Inara using manually updated SLEF though, if anyone wants to take a look.

My conundrum is that I can't decide between the 5D and 4D thrusters; one has speed fun the other better Ly range.
I also can't decide on the 4C vs 3C Bi-Weave Shields.

Good one. I see you fitted an engineered 4A Power Plant, I got one and tried a 4D but everything shuts down including the fuel Scoop, so it's impossible to take to an engineer without the FC, I'll engineer it to see if it's worth it.

I already have one fitted from another fit, I'm trying to downsize further but the 4D needs engineering because from stock, I can't even take it to an engineer (no fuel scoop, shut down with a lot of other modules), so I'm waiting for my FC (Crimson Exchange HIP 10792).

4D: 4.00 T, 11.700 Power Capacity. 4A 5.00 T, 15.600 Power Capacity. OVERCHARGED - GRADE 5 ︎︎︎︎︎ provides with 40% extra POWER GENERATION, 16.38. One can gain an extra - 10% weight with STRIPPED DOWN EXPERIMENTAL EFFECTS, 3.600 T.

It's difficult to achieve because my ship is already bare naked, I can't turn anything down more than what already is.

4D Thrusters only give you roughly one LY more. Not worth it imo (in my build 83 instead of 82 LY). For shields I went with 4A enhanced low power and high cap. 4C bi-weave with the same engineering produces the same result. 3D or 3C is getting too close to a paper build with not much LY gained imo.

Fair enough. (Currently not where I can tinker... since EDSY doesn't have the MD yet... still curious though, so)
You'd suggest I stick with the 5D Thrusters then and 4C Bi-Weaves? Or would you suggest Enh Low Pow?

Enhanced low power is an engineering effect so you can use it on the biweaves if you want. Their weight is the same as an A-rated shield generator anyway (which really makes it no decision imo, just take the stronger shield unless worried about its power draw).

I see your point, you're playing safe, but I call small gains Fine Tuning, optimization, they add to each other and in any case I always can reverse to the 4A, all I need to do is transfer it to the Carrier.

The point is; I'm only playing in Solo and don't do ground exploration once my FC took me to a region I want to explore, the best I do is Scanning systems and planets, so I'm unlikely to hit anything hard with her, same for my Phantom which is geared for Fuel Rats work.

The deciding factor will be Heat Efficiency. 0.75 vs 0.40.

Depends what you want with it. I would keep the 5D Thrusters and dirty drag drive them to keep flying in atmosphere fun. If you have the 4C shield, but you want good anti-ganker protection, I‘d reinforce them. But then again, a 4A shield does the trick better with enhanced low power and high cap. You’re not going to stick around in a tight situation anyway, plus you can boost away with your 5D thrusters. Here’s my build again, feel free to experiment: https://s.orbis.zone/qBMd

It’s a shame Edsy hasn’t updated yet but from my recent experience, you can fuel scoop and charge your FSD without getting more than 64%. I‘ve seen a Reddit post about doing the Hutton Orbital run with the Mandalay in constant SCO and not going over 51%.

It might no fly, now that I'm onboard my FC, I upgraded the Guardian FSD Booster to a 5H with a consequent increase in Power Draw, the ship is empty right now, my Thruster is a 5D THRUSTERS Dirty ︎︎︎, incomplete engineering (need to exchange materials).
