Jack DekerdtDropped on the starboard arm as the arm was coming about....thank god for A5 thrusters! I felt like a baseball about to be hit out of the park. Been playing since June first time I have encountered this type of station modification.

I have heard stories that they are for Capital Ships to dock, but that may well just be stories.

any source for that? Seems quite reasonable and I would like to see a docked Capital ship this way

FrankfortAs we have seen there are a lot of player based factions and wings in game and on this website

Now just imagine that inara becomes a Faction on its own. With all of its 8000+ players wings etc

that should be someting to behold.

I am afraid there won't be so much activity for such minor faction, as most of commander here are already backing their factions and also as Inara system is obvious choice for it and is relatively on the edge of inhabited space

It would make sense anyway there is a limit obviously as to what can actually fit through the mail slot even with a docking computer lol.

It was just my imagination running wild having a faction of 8000+ players would be most impresive..

A shadow pilots federation .

Not all Groups/Guilds want huge numbers of member and then associated responsibilities.
From my experience smaller guilds with quality people are the most fun.
Rather than larger guilds that take anyone and everyone.

just sayin...

I know that ,as i said before its just my imagination running wild .

But i agree having players with specific skills and knowledge or just a wing of friends is the way to go .

The only thing is that there are already wings or groups heading to the 1000 mark .

As what Frontier said play the way you want to play.

And Inara is the pefect tool for it.

INARA acting together as a block of enthusiasts 8k strong can make a difference with FD as other large groups have made an impact albeit a selective one.

Well, is it JUST me? Or does the concept of LATERAL docking arms, rotating with the gravity-inducing speed multiplied by their length from the centre of rotation, scare the bejeebers out of anyone else?!?

Sure, you put 4 long docking arms coming out the end OPPOSITE the mailslot, it's still a bit of a challenge, but far more manageable than lining up alongside a LATERAL arm..!

Seriously?
Try it, in game -- go up one side of a regular Coriolis, and tell me you can SIDE THRUST STEADILY and consistently, retaining position facing one side of the station... *lol*
DO it in an ANACONDA, and if you can do it where you're only a Sidey's depth(length) away from the station wall, back it up until you're half a 'Conda away, then try again.

Sorry, just the way my head works...

My thoughts exactly. If the rotation of the station is supposed to allow to 1g on the interior surface of the station, arms like that would make for a very tedious climb against gravity from a capital ship.

My second thought on these is that they may be housings for electrodynamic tethers to manage station orbit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrodynamic_tether

I get it...from Moonraker to ST: DS9, I often wondered at what 'safe' speed stations were rotating to accommodate both gravity and the safe docking of ships of any size, especially as 'docking arms' (for lack of a better or more proper term) get further away from the central hub.
