Pahl Meowers, Have you considered a game pad (Tartarus or Red Dragon) I dont play twin sticks, I use HOTAS, but I use a Razer Tartarus just to the left side of the throttle and have each key bound to a command, and with a shift function you end up with 32 programmable keys.

Yeah, I have a simpler keypad that I bought just for a test, before buying a more expensive, mechanical one... And I'm going to do that. Liked it much. However, my one looks more like a small keyboard without wrist pads or smth like that, just a square-shaped thing. And it's amazing for a HOSAS setup, as it could be used with any hand, depending on which functions I'm willing to sacrifice... for a split-second, lol (but still I have all 'hot', combat binds on the sticks). Left stick is for lateral-vertical thrusters, throttle, boost and other engine controls, except for the main trigger, it's used for heatsinks, I need to use them even during complex manoeuvres. And right stick is a classic 'direction, targeting, pip management' thing. Left-sided keypad is awesome for HOTAS, as throttle remains in the same position, but sticks are going to the zero point, breaking the manoeuvre.


That sounds great. HOSAS really sounds like the best way to go, I would think for ship control it would be more accurate/controllable than HOTAS, but returning to zero would screw me up for sure.

I like the Razer gamepad, but I would like one for the right side as well. I'm currently using a razer mouse with 12 additional buttons (different games) and for my hands it's a little difficult. If you don't mind me asking, what brand is the small square game pad you are using, I may look into it for my right side.

Depends on what you want to do I guess... I need HOSAS for accurate/controllable orbiting, spiralling, strafing, evading, etc. I guess HOTAS is better for other activities, maybe less intense. I've played with a stick+keyboard setup in my earlier days, but HOSAS is just awesome, it feels like piloting the ship.

Ah... I don't know, lol. It's some kind of chinese-made noname dirt cheap piece of plastic. Even not mechanical. Bought for a test, but... It does the work! Still can't find something better with enough keys.

And I recommend Thrustmaster T16000M sticks for HOSAS, making a left-handed stick from right-handed is a matter of two screws and a changeable thumb-rest pad (included in the package). Maybe there's another models, I don't know. Maybe they're expensive as an Airbus stick, lol. A great friend recommended me those T16000Ms and she knows how to use them well. So I may recommend them too.

I play in VR with a PS4 controller, and use Voice Attack for all the extra stuff. Anything you can keybind can be voice controlled.

It's not a good solution for everyone, of course. If you share a living space with other people, they might not appreciate the running commentary

I like music, so I have a pretty good sound insulation, however... If voice attack start 'listening' to the songs...

Anyway, one day I will put several 30+ inch screens around me and it will be almost like VR, lol. And good for the work too, more stuff on the screen.

Thanks for the heads up on the Selenium CMDR. I'll certainly check that out when I get the chance.

As for VR, I'm with you there. I can honestly say I only bought this game so I could play it in VR. It changes everything about the experience.

If you go there (or anyone else) let me know how you do, because I went back today and that field that I emptied out yesterday was still completely empty today... I am new to looking for focused mats so I have no idea how the repopulation works. I know I've seen some old videos where they said asteroid fields repopulate after 2 hours... but I've seen newer videos say they repopulate every Thursday.... But either way I don't know if that means just for me, of if that means when I cleared out that field, I cleared it out to everyone coming in after me as well...

I went to another flat field (I think it was #35 possibly) to check that location and it was full... as soon as I saw that I was getting lots of Selenium, I stopped so I don't be selfish and potentially strip it away from everyone else.

How does repopulation work?

I full agree, been in VR since 2016 with the first Rift. Screendoor effect and can't read the text really good. But the immersion was awesome. Now with the Quest 2 the Resolution ist 2K per Eye, I can read the text now and the illusion is perfect. Lately I tried to fly without VR, because of a tec problem. It was like watching a youtube film rather than playing

Even with the trade off of VR not being able to produce the super high definition that you get on a monitor... I can never go back to playing a game on a monitor after experiencing being "inside the game". I do Racing sims and FPS sims also. After playing Onward and seeing the air vapor coming from my mouth cause I was hunting someone down in a snow environment, I was instantly hooked on VR. But VR can be tricky cause if your PC isn't properly tuned, you start getting frame drops quick and that's what makes people physically ill. Also developing 'VR legs' usually takes about a full week before your brain accepts that it's ok to know you're moving but not in real life...

I think it's perfectly solved in Alyx. Best immersion I ever had. And the movement realized with teleprting is a really good Idea.

If you go there (or anyone else) let me know how you do, because I went back today and that field that I emptied out yesterday was still completely empty today... How does repopulation work?

I'm not certain about geological sites. Asteroids are 6 or 7 days, I believe. Guardian sites require you to move a kilometer or two away and relog, and you can sit there farming them all day long. I thought biological sites were similar to Guardian sites for regen, but I haven't tried that in a long time and couldn't say for sure.

You have 12 Buttons for direct actions on the Thrustmaster HOTAS. In VR some functions work different; e.g. you activate menus and targeting by the direction of your view. Thats very neat. So you don't need keys or buttons therefor.

Most HOTAS have up to 32 buttons (or more), with shift buttons doubling that. Add to that Elite able to combine keys for actions and it's very easy to program a setup that allows you to only use the HOTAS for all inputs. As A-Fox said, typing you use the keyboard blind. Alternatively you could maybe use Speech-to-text programs or a voice interface program such as Voice Attack (what I use). There are also numerous programs to facilitate using VR with Elite for things like plotting courses to favourite systems, summarizing data, in game overlays etc...

This is true. When I use Neutron plotter for long exploration, I use it with EDMC and import the course as a CSV. EDMC then automatically copies the next target system to my clipboard. I drop into a system, open the gal map, look at the text field to search the map, press a button on the keypad bound to "paste", exit the map, charge up on the neutron stars cone, and jump to the next system, all without taking off the headset. You just need to watch your fuel level and make sure to scoop/repair as needed.

Navigating the panels is just a matter of looking left, right or down to highlight them and the using hats on the stick to navigate to and choose functions.

How does repopulation work?


I always assumed it was same as rocks, two hours or so, but maybe mats are more like core rocks and take 6 days and be depleted for everyone.
Guess you're playing in Horizons so you go direct to the geo POIs. That should be fine.
If you play in Ody, it gets trickier but not too bad. Just have to remember that the game classes Selenium as G2 mat despite it being G4. So, it won't drop with other G4s. You need to find G2 drops and ensure that Selenium is equal or more than 50% of the G2 group. Each body will have 5 G1, 3 G2, and up to 2 G3, 1 G4.
Crystalline Fragments on volcanic worlds are your best chance. More or less guaranteed to find enough to fill your boots.
