I know the feeling. My current Cutter is running 9,711 Absolute; 34,943 Explosive; 29,119 Kenetic; and 14,977 Thermal.

I took a peek at her! Nice looking Cutter you have there. I've been experimenting between Pris and Bi shields, and even though Bi's recover quicker, do you even expect 8A-rated, engineered Pris w/ shield boosters to always go down??

I'm ready to believe it. I've also read btw all the better pvp'ers play without flight assistance, and so you don't stand a chance against them if you don't. If only because your moves and notably your turns will be too slow and predictable. I don't know what's the truth of that, but it would seem to make sense. I've tried it but with my old and drifting controller, my ship spirals out of control when I do.

I used to spin in circles too . I like to toggle the flight assistance (FA) off/on particularly if turning less nimble ships, or if turning in combat. But I set the the FA to a key binding on a hotas that can be toggled on and off easily. Could try turning FA off at start of turn, and quickly switch it back on at the end of turn. It reminds me a little of drifting turns in Star Wars Squadrons.
I think of it as FA is similar to flying a plane in gravity, and FA off is flying in space where if you go in a particular direction you just keep going.
I suspect there are some CMDRs that can fly 100% FA off.

This. The game would be so awesome with an automatic toggle between relative and absolute mouse. But FDev just can't be arsed to add one, so the FA/off people have to supercruise with keys. It's pathetic.
But then again, what else to expect from developers who don't play their own game?

They have gone down a couple times. Usually happens after running multiple CZ's without stopping to rearm/recharge. I have been jumped by a player with reverb cascade torps that took out my shield generator. I have enough hull armor though that I was able to escape. Also lost them once when I first encountered CMDR Rui Rebui in a CZ and he was in his famous Deathstar Conda. That thing melts shields. Otherwise as long as I'm not going after Thargoids, I have yet to encounter NPC's who really posed a threat. It really makes capital ships anticlimactic when you can just sit there tanking all their weapons and not notice your shields depleting.

To hear KbM players having this issue is so strange. At least with a controller, I can map FA on/off to right stick push in and left stick push in at the same time. It's almost a single button press.

I guess I need 8A shields or prismos for those. Bi-weaves deplete too fast.
Prismos did the trick. Just completed a mission against a wing of four, with 79% hull and 29% shield left.

It is not the mapping that is the problem. The mouse have no springs to return in in central position. There is a setting called relative mouse on and off. When you fly fa off with mouse this must be on, when you fly fa on it must be off. Unfortunately, this can be done only through UI settings. It was requested many times to have a separate trigger for it or giving an option to bind it to fa off/on trigger.
.. But as Yuna said, Frontier cannot be arsed to fix anything.

Am I right saying the more damage my power plant takes that it makes my power cap go up? I'm doing some experimentation and I am dangerously close to the cap. I don't want it to start shutting down systems because I fire a salvo of packhounds and it heats me up like I'm in the sahara with no water.
If you have enough power at 20% heat you will have enough at 1000%. Power consumption do not increase with heat.
The only way your power output can drop is by taking damage to power plant.

If power plant integrity drops below 80% there will be malfunctions that temporarily reduce output to 40%. If PP integrity drops to 0%, output will be permanently reduced to 50%, and malfunctions may reduce it further to 20%. Regardless of integrity, malfunctions can also be triggered when the hull gets hit by weapons with the scramble spectrum experimental effect, but only while the shield is down.
Heat >100% causes module damage, so if your ship overheats while using its weapons, you may have to add MRPs to absorb part of the damage, assign fewer pips to WEP, or change your engineering so that the ship runs cooler.
