KurakilIn general, if you want to get stuff done, play in Solo mode or a PG to avoid player interference altogether.

That’s not good advice. Everyone should play how they want. Personally I think there are some things that unprepared people should do in solo but 99% of play is better in open. Other cmdrs make the story. Yeah, you get killed - but it’s a game. You’re meant to die. And dying at the hand of a better pilot is rare. Most deaths are caused by stupidity which is a bit disappointing.
(Yeah, I’m the guy that lost 2 months of exo-bios jumping an srv across geyser canyon).

That's why I said "If you want to get stuff done". If that is not your primary goal then yeah, play whatever way floats your boat. But if you want to minimize the risk of getting killed then Open is not a good choice. I personally cannot jump more than 2-3 times before someone tries to interdict me, thereby prolonging what already takes a long time.

there are two sides of the medal.. open is nice to play but in some situations solo is better. i remember as i started as a newbie i had terrible moments too, got ganked at an engineer in open, messed with much stronger opponents and so on.. so my advice is if like to play dangerous fly open, you don't know what to expect. have an open eye at some engineers or ´hotspot´ locations (sometimes in the past ´gankers´ like to lurk at the community goals target space). if you like to play save solo or private is the better choice, sometimes the smarter choice..

Don't expect to survive in open if your ship is not engineered. Regardless of what people say about skills, ED is first and foremost a numbers game, i.e. your survival depends on the ganker's DPS vs. your shield and hull hitpoints, and duration of exposure to enemy fire. If your ship is big and slow, the ganker will have 100% time on target and burn through your unengineered shields in a matter of seconds. It's simple math really, and the only way to avoid a rebuy is to submit to the interdiction and then high- or low-wake out as soon as possible. Don't even bother to deploy your hardpoints, it will just waste valuable time. Low-waking is an option only if your ship is very fast or has a higher mass lock factor than your opponent's ship. For example, if you're flying a Python and the ganker is flying a FDL, you can low-wake. If the ganker is flying a Cutter, you can't. You can look up mass lock factors on the front page of EDSY. Memorizing them will help you make the right decision faster.

But at the end of the day, with an unprepared ship it's better to stay in solo. NPC interdictions are easy to evade, so you can survive even if your ship is made of cardboard.

Can vouch for this. I built an engineered shield tank Cutter. Took it out in open to a community goal combat zone. Some player in a Clipper thought it would be a good idea to interdict me and attack me. I was still a novice in terms of player skill and it was painfully obvious they had way more skill than I did. The skill gap didn't matter at all though. Even though they could just maneuver into my blind spot and maintain 100% time on target, they ran out of ammo before they could come close to getting my shields down. And I was interdicted after leaving an actual combat zone so I didn't have full shields to begin with.

NPC interdictions are so easy to evade you can do it in a stock Type 9 without issue. On the other hand, I have been out in my Cutter when a player interdicted me and I immediately pulled the throttle back to submit but the interdiction system went so quickly it still counted as being forced out.

It's not 'just the mine launcher', it's Salvation's Pre-Engineered Bio-Chemical Mine Launcher

Now who's been crapping in my chaff launcher again &$#

Ahem. Looking up your ship at edsy, it is assumed under jump range/jmp rng that you have four pips in your ENG. I'm pretty sure though that doesn't affect your hyperlight travel (it sure doesn't seem to in-system). Anyone know the truth of it? Could they be -- gasp -- wrong?

EDIT wait wait wait, I guess it's just the phrasing for that whole NAV block, and so can safely be disregarded for frameshift travel. Sorry, do kindly carry on, nothing to see here, you've been a wonderful audience, i'll get my coat, etc.
