Yes, stacked 4 and had 2 showing up at the beacon. LOL. That was kinda fun. I even picked up some interesting materials from their crash sites.

RawnuQuestions for Fleet Carrier owners:
(1) How did owning an FC change your playstyle (if at all)? What is now different for combat, trading, exploration, mining etc.?
(2) What do you wish to have as additional options for your FC (outfitting, customization etc.)?
(3) Did you ever regret having an FC? (e.g. because of maintenance costs or lack of feeling "alone" in your one ship)

1) I have been doing all my trips to Colonia (Except for one) and further exploration with my Carrier, shorter exploration trips around the Carrier I use my Krait Phantom.

For CZs I move her from system to system using Elite Dangerous Conflict Zones, this way when one CZ ends, I can find another one without moving my Combat ships, in particular the Corvette which has a very short Jump Range.

2) The possibility of upgrading her, for range and shorter time between jump in particular and route programing (waypoints).

3) No, quite the opposite, my playstyle changed for the better, for example, I was able to optimize my Corvette for maneuverability, fitting lighter non-essential modules to it, gaining in maneuverability without compromising shields or structural REINFORCEMENT, it's all positive so far.

The only problem I have is the non-integration of full VR when disembarked, the PoV is mediocre compared to non-VR. I hope they will sort this out soon so I can enjoy foot gaming in VR and visit the Carrier interior more often.

For the maintenance costs, I alternate and do a lot of Robigo Run + CZ/Bounty Hunting, all of the gain goes to the Carrier, balance at the moment is 7,634,733,556 Cr with 31,310,584 Cr RESERVE, NO issue when it comes to that, on the other hand I have SUSPENDED a couple of services to save cost (Bartender, Outfitting, Pioneer Supplies, Shipyard).

My tip: If you consider buying a Carrier, make sure you have a steady source of revenue to pay for the services and Tritium, as well of having the use for it.

Exploration is best, but you need loads of Tritium to go to Colonia and back, from Sol to Colonia 3,156 X 2 Tons with my actual Carrier Load.

The good thing about it, is that she will carry your fleet and you'll be able to continue your usual activities (Mining, Trade, Missions etc) when you're in a populated system, I have 14 ships onboard and one permanently based in Robigo for Passenger missions.

Is it possible to park my boat and get a ride on FC? I'll bring 8T of tritium. Max cargo.

RawnuQuestions for Fleet Carrier owners
It can jump without my active input. So it's a little easier to combine boring things IRL and game, by freeing more time for active playing. Also, it's a flying shack of stuff, I keep my modules for different activities there, so refitting the ship for something else is easier too, you don't have all that scattered over a dozen systems or stuck at Jameson's, it's always somewhere nearby.

And I'd totally like to see different sizes and classes of those, not just cosmetic layouts for one (and only) size. Would like to have a smaller one, maybe with less landing pads, but neat and compact.

As for the upkeep costs... Let's go get you sum bugs this tick and you could forget about the upkeep for several months, maybe even a year, lol.

What is fun is to fly between the two pirates and get them to hit one another, a fight kicks off and they will wear one another down, making them an easy kill for you.

A small "FC" with 1 landing pad +2 hangars would be awesome. Something you can leave at the orbit, go do your thing, jump 300 ly, rinse and repeat.
Also has few AI fighter ships for protection etc.

Yes but you need to agree with the Carrier owner on a destination, for example if he/she travels to Colonia and make sure that you tell him/her if you leave the ship between jumps, I left one passenger behind once, it's not funny.

One extra ship add nothing to the cost of the trip but one contribution is nice...

>>>

I'm not planning any exploration trip in the short term, the earliest would be in a few month, then I'll make people aware of the availability of a spot on the Carrier and date of departure.

For the moment my focus is on farming materials in preparation of the engineering needed for the new ship (end of month) and grinding my COMBAT Elite Level 1 (65% at the moment, progress is slow).

Thanks so far for the answers!

Re (1) playstyle change: haven't used it yet for exploration, so I'm curious about folks who do. I use it mainly as a combat (AX) taxi for all my ships so far. Mining and trading the mined stuff I only did once but this is really not for me.

Re (2) additional options: I really miss a good remote opportunity to move Tritium from the cargo hold into the tank. Also, charting more than one jump would be fantastic if you want to go somewhere further overnight. I'm still a bit baffled that there are not more customization options for your office, the bridge, the hallways etc. Finally you have a "ship" with an interior and you can't really customize all that much.

Re (3) regrets: so far no, none at all. Money isn't an issue, got mine financed for the next 4.5 years and one or two evenings in open at a damaged port with Thargoids gives you a billion or so anyway.

But please keep your comments coming!

I like my carrier, and the current regular costs of around 12 million are really not worth mentioning. I use its black market to generate some income from pirating activities, although I have enough money to not have to worry about income for years and it's rather game play flavour at this point.

Just wish I had an even bigger carrier... when I'm out in the black away from the bubble, I'd like to have a carrier that is more like a living city, generating missions or such, to make it more lively out there. Imagine it as a mobile outpost for mining, or raiding traders, or fortifying frontiers, doing some BGS - those could be scenarios that generate missions, for example rescue or assassination missions.

Oh, inability to move Tritium from the cargo into the fuel tank of the carrier has been a pain in the engineering deck for years.

True that. I always keep a hauler ready for Tritium transfer then honking systems between jumps, in that respect, the Type 7 have been very useful, I keep her.

1) Exploration is one of the Carrier fortes despite their limitations in range and time between jumps, you don't have to worry about leaving a ship in the middle of nowhere and got a base for repairs and refuel etc.

I agree totally with points 2), it looks like they stopped developing them, but it is not what bother me the most, as previously stated, there is no full VR for disembarked gaming, from my PoV, it's a let down because otherwise, the game looks gorgeous and with my system, I can run it with top settings between 75 and 90 FPS without any problem and it looks gorgeous.

That's one of the reasons why I don't do footy work and I only visited my Carrier interior a few times.

I'm old enough to have been there at the beginning.

I really hope the new "feature" is a re-design of the fleet carriers where we start off with a tiny FC. We can then add modules (base building in space) where we can make a space station (no engines), add mining facilities, manufactoring, habs for the population. With the option to add more landing pads, thrusters, jump drives, weapon platforms for powerplay.

I say, give everyone 4 billion of their initial 5 billion FC cost back to them, replace their massive FC with a tiny one, and then let them invest in it as much as they want. Adding modules to make the FC they want their FC to be. Long jump, quick jump, inter-system mass cargo hauler, powerplay death-star, a carrier with slots for lots of NPC fighters.

Personally I've got over 100 billion and nothing to invest it in. Would be nice to have a project again.

As for upkeep, that needs to go. Just make the FC go offline (hidden from game) if nobody lands on it for 30 days or the owner hasn't logged in, something like that.

And if I'm still getting wishes, can I have my personal FC still show up when I turn off the FC filter. I only want to see mine.
