I'm working on improving my combat skills. I have a good flight stick, but would like to make the move over to a full HOTAS system to have better thrust control. Any recommended HOTAS's or suggestions on flying better with a stick and keyboard?

Thanks!

Sir Sprockett
have been off the game for about 18 months - so rusty in my assumptions. Wont happen again.
Hope you are well Episparh?

5 years ago I bought a car after 2 years driving hiatus. I haven't forgotten how to drive nor I forgot the traffic regulations.

My point is that few months cannot make you forget the basics of Open play.

Ah, yes! I am fine. Thanks for asking!

Disclaimer: I am not a combat pilot and I am keyboard and mouse user.

I haven't flew with sticks or HOTAS but I have done some research in the past. I will list my findings here so you can check them if you care.

1. Keyboard and mouse (KBD +M for future ref.) - this is the cheapest setup which have the highest aiming accuracy. The other advantage is access to maximum control options. However, it requires multiple key actions flying especially in FA off. Breaking immersion. Impossible in VR.

2. Keyboard and Stick (including one hand keyboards similar to Razer Tartarus) - By my opinion this is immersion compromise. You have analog stick + full advantage of keyboard. You are loosing aiming accuracy. That should be very hard in VR unless you have a perfect muscle memory for the keyboard.
Alternatively you can use full FA off with KBD + M and use the stick only for Supercruising. 2nd cheapest option

3. HOTAS - this is the most immersive controls but it lack flexibility of having abundance of controls. Fighting in such setup may leads to heavy fatigue in the hand that twists the stick for yaw. Investing in pedals can fix that but it is more money .... that can easily surpass 1000 USD/EUR. Best for VR.

4. Two sticks - this method is second only to KBD + M in aiming accuracy. It removes the need of pedals and to twist a stick. It limits your control options and it might be hard to find a stick for left hand. Should be relatively easy to be used in VR. Price is comparable to HOTAS (without pedals).

Hope it helps!

This video sums it well.

Yeah wasn't happy with the names-dropping (boohoo X did Z), nor the easy prejudice above.

For whatever my 2 Arx may be worth. Glad to see I'm not alone

What's your budget?
If you're into combat i suggest hosas over hotas. You will have far superior control over your ship.
Personally i use vkb nxt evo. Normal stick for right hand and the omnithrottle for the left hand. I can't recommend them enough.
The nice thing about the evo's is that they also have dry clutch if you want. This means you can use the omni like a normal throttle with two extra axis.

Mac4How does one go about gathering 25 occupied space pods?

check out meene ab 5 c/d for recoverable wreckage signals, there are enough occupied escape pod´s to collect

Mac4I should've thought of that before setting out to look up ol' Etienne

Turns out one of those mysterious stranger tip-offs leads you to a crashed ship in nearby Ra' Takakhan, that as far as I can tell features one (1) occupied escape pod. I'm thinking it must've been left there on purpose, so that all it takes is 25 relogs to solve the issue, since as we all know that makes for bwahaha excellent gameplay Also, whoever came up with the idea of your SRV holding 4 pieces of cargo should of course be summarily executed $#@

Just leaving this here for posterity, that site I mentioned of course doesn't spawn an occupied pod with each instance, so make that whatever multiple of 25 relogs.

The question gets asked on the web of course, and so the slightly more elegant accepted solution that I now followed seems to be the one described here: Engineers Guide: Fast way to find Occupied Escape Pods near Colonia. Still requires relogging, just less of it.

The thing about grind is I think good game design would mean the stuff you need presents itself to you naturally over the course of gameplay. All the rest is just superfluous fluff.

3 questions if you don't mind:

1. What's the weekly cost of a fully outfitted fleet carrier after buying the thing? I'm considering it but I already have a job.
2. If I were to leave the game for a while and decommissioned it is there a penalty?
2. I'm a Horizons player for now as I doubt what I'm running could handle Odyssey (I have lots of RAM but only a bog standard graphics card so I have to set my graphics very low): is it worth getting one at all?

All that talk about the best controls for the combat, did anybody try to use MFD joysticks of Ruffy Controls Inc. for left hand throttle control by any chance?

Acording Elite previous game the first encounter, there was two factions of thargoids. Oresrians and Klaxxians. Oresrians was peacefull and they called Klaxxians animals. They was loosing war with them. So they made alliance with humankind. On planet Earth they had trading post in Antarktica and in Polaris system headquater. I think everything went wrong when people started use them like lab rabitts for development of ax military industry against Klaxxians. So not to much Oresrians left. What if orthrus interceptor was Oresrian. It had half human modules. Because they shared tech with humans. Also thargoids atacked him In first thargoid war were not interceptors. Only scouts. When thargoids returned, they had new bigger ships. What if some last Oresrians wanted develop their own interceptors with help of Palin. That also makes sence why Palin left federation. Because federation was in contact with Oresrians first before alliance.

1. 34.95 mil per week https://cmdrs-toolbox.com/fleet-carrier-calculator
2. Yes. There is penalty - for details https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/fleet-carrier-faq.547219/
3. EDO is hard on both CPU and GPU. If you do not cover the recommended hardware requirements for GPU and CPU better do not bother.

from Anti-Xeno Initiative Wiki:

During a ‘Let’s Play’ Livestream, Community Manager, Stephen Bendetti confirmed that the Orthrus was a mistake and not intended to be in the game.

Frontier Developments Developer “KSE” has confirmed “the Orthrus was never meant to appear in the game” confirming it is no longer canon in the storyline.
