Yuna SakashiroI recently bumped a frozen NPC ship out of the mailslot with my Cutter. If you push them far enough, they suddenly come alive and boost away.

I've never been able to nudge them at all.

I once killed a player in AspX on my way out with Resolution. I had to rapair 30% hull damage. It was unintentionally, but this thing happens.

Either be ready to tank 3-4k raw damage or do not violate speed law and bump in things.

By the way, the gankers in ShinDez are sadly underperforming. I can't remember how many times I was told that evading ganks in a "cope courier" or "cope cutter" requires no skills. Well, I just switched to a Krait, and guess what? They still fail to gank me.

It's a nice build though, if I may say so. Raw shield strength only about 800MJ, but the class 6 bi-weave makes it recover much faster than the Courier. Higher mass lock factor than FdL and Mamba, so you can low-wake out of most situations. 50Ly jump range, so they can't follow you if you high-wake. Non-stop boosting with only two ENG pips, thanks to its engineered class 7 power distributor.

Return from an exploration trip in open and making it all the way to Jameson Memorial like a boss? This ship can do it.

Gankers aren't what they used to be. Managed to escape in a Keelback a couple of weeks back (before I sold it - as much as I like the idea of it I can't find a role for it in my fleet). F/A off boost a few times, then high waked out... I can't be sure whether the FdL pilot who pulled me over actually flew with their eyes open though. The Keely certainly wouldn't stand a chance against a decent PvPer (too slow, low mass lock factor, not enough hit points both shield/armour).

There's still a handful of vets around where it pays off to be vigilant (recently instanced with Dangerous.com who cost me countless rebuys over the years, surprised he didn't get bored) but most I don't rate at all now - often they can't even win the interdiction minigame, which I always thought favours the interdictor.

Yes, in fairness, he does. Most of my rebuys I ate in my early days in Open pre-2020 (and before FCs my home base was Jameson's, so naturally got a fair bit of practice in trying to dodge gankers, be that individuals or wings - RoA used to be the toughest in my experience due to the builds they were running which complemented each other well... not sure if they're still around). The more I managed to slip away, the less often I would get pulled, you'd still have to watch out when flying a sub-par build though (like when I tried to leave Jameson's in a shieldless Phantom - I needed the shield slot for cargo missions - or a T6... I quite enjoy flying an underdog ship as a challenge, meta builds are too dull for me and mostly fly PvE builds anyways as I mostly play to get stuff done in-game).

Fun times. It all started to go downhill when FCs were introduced (although Borann made up for it in terms of funneling players in Open), and made even worse with Odyssey due to adding more locations where players might hang about, if they kept persisting after EDO's launch...

Now I often wonder why I even log into Open, it feels like Solo apart from maybe 3-4 players you briefly see in SC during a multi-hour session. Game is best when other players are around, but it requires going out of your way to visit PvP/Coop hotspots unfurtunately, now much more so than ever before due to the above. Though on Sunday ShinDez was really busy, not sure why as the rest of the game is pretty stale right now as far as in-game events are concerned (I don't count travelling 2D sprites as such).

Even if players didn't left, which I doubt, the player base was fragmented further by this edh38, edh40, EDO BS. Further more game design fragmentation is a thing too.

Example: instead of giving more reasons to play with a ship, FDev decided to give players more reasons to leave their ship.

This is main reason EDO is a milestone from which Elite goes only downhill, IMO.

Everyone knows the hotspots for ship PvP, but where to go for on-foot PvP? Is there any on-foot PvP that isn't entirely accidental? Can the engine even handle on-foot PvP without grinding to a halt?

This post on the Frontier forums (and others in the same thread) would seem to indicate that during War CGs is a good time for on-foot PvP, but not much outside of that.

Completely forgot about instance-gate, so yeah that doesn't exactly help either meeting players.

As for on-foot PvP, if FDev bothered to set up ground CZ CGs again (for whatever reason they stopped doing those for quite a while), there's Arai's Mine in the Iah Bulu system, if only for one guy (user Ryox featuring in link posted above) on the forum sharing this with the wider audience as a EDO material grinding site (thus attracting players ergo PvP opportunities).

I've used it a few times, it's alright though the usual RNG still applies - but because it's gone somewhat viral there's indeed a higher chance of meeting other players by chance. Did so recently after I raided the place for mats already but couldn't face being mean and attack the other guy who seemed oblivious to the fact I was there (docked on the pad sitting in my ship observing his movements with the vanity cam).

During one of the aforementioned ground CZ CGs I did get some PvP action, though mostly ended up in a coop situation, problem is that multiplayer instances tend to come with a very high chance of the CZ bugging out one way or another. Not to mention the awful lag as if performance wasn't bad enough already. Think I can count the number of organic encounters (hostile or friendly) since EDO release on one hand.
