Damn Yuna, First Rebuy on this save
I knew you were a cool cat but damn

Also it seems speed in space as in Kung-fu is the most important factor in survival

Speed alone is never enough. You cannot outrun hitscan weapons.

Rails go Brrrrrrrrrrrt.

For some reason, on my Anaconda, one (or rather, the right) of 2D Beam Laser has recently begun to fail. He just doesn't shoot! Reboot, re-release of nests, relog - nothing helps. Often the problem goes away by itself, as it appears. It doesn't throw any errors, wtf...

If it's gimballed, maybe the target is out of the firing cone or obstructed by something. Had a similar thing with lower, tier 4, hardpoint on FDL: it can't cover much above the central point because ship's nose is getting in the line of fire.

No no no, even when shooting at empty space, the laser does not fire, as if it was completely disabled through the control panel. I have already checked the fire groups, and reloaded the lasers themselves- in the end, they are not fixed manually...

Sir Sprockettthanks all, helpful, I think that then I will up my courier for the spped, but will still build a cold ship for other things. Thanks for the feed back

If you can, engineer the power plant for low emissions and thermal spread. Its tempting to say engineer thrusters for clean drives with drive distributors, but dirt drives with drag effect give more speed and only add significantly to ship heat when boosting.
Fit heatsink launchers and you can keep your ship in silent running which removes heat signature a lot longer.

remember having similar problems with firegroups, stopped working from one second to the other.. not all firegroups but some. disable / enable don´t helped, sometimes a relog / restart helps but not every time. what helped for me is to reconnect your router and restart the game with a new assigned ip, that helps. so i think it´s a server problem, maybe a transaction / communication error with your gaming profile, strange is that are only some firegroups are affected.

Rails go Brrrrrrrrrrrt.

Fortunately, rails are fixed mount weapons with a low rate of fire, and the ship that's attached to them is usually a Fer-de-lance.

It's ironic, but judging by the amount of shield that's left when I wake out of a gank attempt, FDLs with rails are the least dangerous murderboats to deal with. Too slow to catch up with my small ships, and unable to mass-lock my large and medium ones.

Low rate of fire compared to what? MCs ad lasors?

40 dmg every 3 seconds is high DPS for a size 2 hardpoint in my book. Multiply x5 and you will get the picture.

Additionaly, they are more effective at longer ranges. As further you get away as easier it becomes to be hit. With kbd+m it is a point-and-click adventure.

I doubt you met a lot all rails FDLs. The common setup is 3 PAs and 2 rails. The latter are usually utility for bank cancelation.

I don't often have the time to see what weapons my pursuers use, but it seems that all-rail FDLs either do not exist or fail to be particularly effective. My original Courier build ("Snowblood") was last destroyed in a CG conflict zone on November 6th, 2020, and then never again. Before gankers banned me from their Discords, they told me that evading is easy in a "Cope Courier" unless long-range rails are used. But now I have a Cope Cutter, a Cope Krait and even a Cope Adder, and those dreadful long-range rails have yet to show up and do their job. Not sure how I can lower the bar even more.

Might just be a two-year streak of luck, but I doubt it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Full long range rails builds are niche build for sniping fast but weak ships. They loose punch compared to full PAs, 3PAs/2rails or 5 short range rails builds. This is the reason why they are rare and you do not see them. Nothing related to you or your luck.

You are making a niche builds in most cases good for just trolling or running.

Your "cope" Phantom for example differs from your usual "chicken" doctrine in purpose, yet you applied same concept to it thus sacrificing almost 20ly jump range on exploration build.

That's the whole point. All my recently engineered ships are proof-of-concept builds for open mode, regardless of their primary purpose. I used to be on the other side of that argument, but I've changed my mind since the game has become boring in solo mode. The fun is in taking these builds to ganker hotspots and proving that they actually work. From my point of view there's nothing else left to do in the game, except becoming a ganker myself.

See, that is the problem. You do not need a troll explorer Phantom. A non bi-weave Phantom can have same shield value and speed and boost interval with ~60ly jump range.

The shield on exploration build is not to sustain constant beating by low waking in Shin Dez but to give you enough time to high wake plus extra protection in landing, etc.

Build for open do not mean that you need to sacrifice main ship purpose in order to troll gankers.
