You may laugh, but I wiped my Triple Elite CMDR last year during the summer to be able to experience the noob zone on foot.

Only to find out they completely abandoned it in Odyssey - you get dumped in some other system instead.

Not laughing at all; I did the same thing last March. I was only double Elite though.

Starting on foot is fun, but I have no idea why it happens outside the noob zone. Anyway, soon Horizons 4.0 will be available to everyone, so the noob zone will always be an option after a wipe.

It is fun for a short time yes, although it also highlights how out-of-whack credit balancing has become so it's quite incoherent gameplay wise (and the fact that on-foot payouts are rubbish compared to ship ones). And when I realised how much of a pain it was to get my FC back without intense grinding, I quickly regretted my reset.

Although to be fair, I would've probably quit at this point if I hadn't had to regrind everything again - still don't have the Fed rank to get my Corvette back, and not sure if it's even worth it - prefer to fly smaller, faster ships anyways, and not just since EDO. There really isn't all that much mileage in EDO gameplay/progression besides maxing out gear for the sake of it, and I already had everything unlocked and owned previously.

I didn't regret my restart. It was interesting to find out how long it would take to get back to where I was before, with engineer unlocks and Imperial rank. Regarding the fleet carrier I was lucky because the Golconda CG came just at the right time. I don't care much about ranks, but of course I wanted the unlocks as soon as possible. This time I graded up my engineers by trading instead of engineering modules. It saves a lot of time because it doesn't require materials.

Does legacy have Inara support or the website only support live mode after update 14?

Live mode only. The technical difficulties, work involved and limited audience aren't exactly in favor to supporting both.

o7 Commanders,

Just need a tip here. Been playing ED Horizon for 6 months, on keyboard+mouse. I am now considering buying a flight stick (and possibly a throttle) no more than 150€.
Any recommandation would be welcome, as I am don't know much about sticks or hotas.
Thanks.

Stay with K+M, invest into better mouse with extra 6-12 buttons on the side so you would use keyboard less.

Buying a cheap stick - > get familiar with Dead zones in the options. It's quite natural to fly with just a stick, accelerating, breaking, up and down and sideways movement take up eight letters, easily handled by left hand. The rotational axis is better to keep on keyboard as it will break on a cheap stick in the first dozen fights. Get a stick with at least four preferably six easily handled buttons (my mistake having three easily accessible) and the ministick on center for camera, pips and such.

I fly with a stick along with a keyboard and mouse. On top of that, I use Game Glass for some functions (if you have an old tablet, it's a great way to get some use out of it). I inherited a HOTAS recently, but I haven't tried it yet. I'd say start with a decent stick and get comfortable that way first. Game Glass can do some of the things that you'd do with a throttle at the touch of the screen.

Key bindings are a great thing to start doing, if you haven't already. They can save you time in-game and visits to the re-buy screen.

Start with a basic stick by Thrustmaster and go from there. If you can fly on a cheap stick, you'll be just fine going up to the fancier, more expensive controllers...you know, the ones that have more buttons, are more sensitive to movement and and overall have more capabilities.

Most of all, play the way you want to...it is your experience to enjoy in the end.

First, as Tiffany said, you definitely want a stick with at least 4 easily accessible buttons and a POV hat (a.k.a. mini-stick). If going cheap, one I can recommend is Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. You will have to configure deadzones (this stick has rather large ones), but 6 easily accessible buttons on the stick more than make up for the hassle.

If you want to try a HOTAS, then Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS-X is a good choice, IMHO. 4 buttons on the stick plus 6 on the throttle, no deadzones on the stick, and a notch in the middle position of the throttle that makes it ideally suited for ED’s full-range configuration.

And if you want to try a dual-stick setup instead of HOTAS, then Thrustmaster T16000M is an affordable joystick that can be physically configured for either left or right hand and pairs nicely with the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. (I would advise such pairing over a twin T16000M setup, due to Extreme 3D Pro’s 6 buttons on the stick as opposed to T16000M’s 4.) I am myself a big fan of dual-stick setups in ED, as they give you full control of your ship (very helpful in combat and when landing in difficult terrain), and they work on-foot too, but I have to admit they may take some time to get your head around

Side note: ED’s default bindings, and almost all bindings published on edrefcard.info, assign the X axis (i.e. tilting the stick left/right) to roll and the RZ axis (rotation of the stick – all of the above mentioned sticks have the RZ axis) to yaw. I, however, find this kind of controls unintuitive, and prefer to swap those axes. You might want to experiment with setting up your stick either way to see which suits you better.

Played with dual T16000Ms and it was an amazing, immersive experience, especially with lights off and a big monitor in front of me. Played with KB+M a bit after that and it looked and felt like a joke, a total disappointment. Even if all those 'professionals' tell that KB+M is the most efficient setup. Maybe, but, in terms of enjoying the gameplay, I'd still recommend playing with a pair of sticks. I remember, when I just started playing Elite, I thought about buying a stick in a first week, it was an aftermarket T-Flight-X, like, I wanted to have something cheap just to get the feeling, planning on buying a better setup if I like it. HOTAS is an option too, however, we're in space and with a second stick you may have more freedom of movement.

I use a HOTAS for ship controls but I would probably like two sticks better, at least if I could have one right-handed buttons layout and one left-handed buttons layout.
Even with lots of buttons on my HOTAS and with kb+m I still have very few that are not used at all and the majority of them are used for more that one thing depending on which mode I'm in (On-foot, SRV, Ship). You can never have too many buttons for this game.

I need a button to make me good at perma-FAoff, Then like three or four buttons for perfect maneuvering and positioning. Must have hotkey for turning tunnel vision on and off, i seem to not be able to get a good key bind for that one. then about 4-5 hotkeys for PR purposes, like insta-chat-responses that automatically make people like you and such. thats apart from al the keyboard binds plus hotas setup ( a thank god is well maintained 16000mcs )
