DigueloDefinition of a Ganker.

A low life piece of trash unhappy with his lot in life, fed up of family and lives in a darkened room playing after parents have gone to bed. Morning comes and another day of the world crashing in on a pitiful existence. The sad thing being these morons exist in most MMORPG games and tend to be the reason folk dont play them any more. Ive come across them in a lot of frames and as for Elite, it started as a solo game and I play nothing but solo unless in on a private serve with friends.
So as for Ganking being anything but a pitiful existence come an get me, oh thats right this game has a mode you cant get into.

Sounds like you exploded with expensive cargo on you buddy... my condolences.

They might also be men in their 40's with a strange case of a midlife crisis and an urge to show their superiority.

Gankers are fun.

No offense intended, but I don't feel like grinding for hours and hours to make a subpar ship to avoid gankers when I can just stay in private
Tbh, the notorious ranking needs a buff so there are more consequences, at least when it comes to attacking and murdering players

The new aggressive Thargoids pose a challenge very similar to gankers. They win interdictions, and they fly equivalent ships with "engineered" weapons that require similar countermeasures if you want to escape and survive. But unlike gankers, these Thargoids wait for you even in solo, and the number of systems they infest is rapidly rising.

Yes, the grind sucks, but the time when the whole bubble was a safe space for unengineered ships may be coming to an end.

Then, I guess, we'll get a kind of 'pay to win' from FDev, or, to be more correct, 'pay to engineer'.

... Still haven't joined the war effort though. ...

You may postpone that. Apparently Frontier in their ultimate wisdom decided that they will reset our effort on every week tick. Given the players' interest is huge and concentrated in just one system , the result is just 40-45% .....

BATTLE OVER HIP 23716
THARGOIDS KILLED 154,671
RESCUES PERFORMED 1,567,587 (Note that the system have 1.87 mil population)

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/the-thargoid-war-system-states-clarifications.611694/

And the fruits for FDev to collect
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/important-information-from-operation-ida.611719/

Looks like FDev jumped the shark when it comes to designing grindy game mechanics.

As someone elsewhere already said, it appears entirely designed for player retention for the sake of it. Even looking at the mission board... the usual uninspired "Kill 5 Medusas" or "Kill 65 Scouts for not even 700k". Would it have hurt to come up with a few more interesting missions alongside the new content? Evidently so.

Edit2: First instance I joined - bugged invisible goids.

You know what? I can't be bothered anymore, might give Legacy a whirl instead, which now is in its own realm of pointlessness. Bleh.

Build a thargoid ship yesterday, killed 50, already got tired of the endless material sink synthesizing everything.

Yeah, that's... Sickeningly boring. The main thing that holds me from continuing my playing. Okay, I can get better at it and do Medusa fights without synthing stuff, but Hydras...

RadiculeousWhat happened to the latest community goal?
It only started few days ago, was suppose to last 8 weeks, and is now done?
I was here filling up my FC with polymers and when I wanted to jump and help the cause...

It is over. Keep your load as next one for gimbaled AX MCs most likely will require same.

Actually there’s now a new CG for enhanced AX missile racks that requires same stuff.
@Radiculeous you might want to go there with your FC ASAP, the goal level is the same so this CG is also unlikely to be long-lived

Unlikely, I think; AFAIR David Braben once said he was opposed to the idea of pay-to-win.
More likely, FDev will be tweaking numbers so that Thargoids’ progress is neither too fast nor too slow. Bruce G said something to that effect on the official forums on Wednesday.

Just started my second Mass Effect Trilogy playthrough. There's a line right at the beginning of ME1 that fits so right.

"That's the official story. But only an idiot believes the official story."

Probably a stupid question for all you exobiology experts out there, but outposts don't have Vista Genomics counters, do they?

I'm confused because I'm currently docked at Poisson Mine in HR 1621 which, according to in-game info and Inara, does have Vista Genomics although it's an outpost. What gives?

Never seen an outpost with Vista, no.
I don't even think it exists in the game files.

But you usually have Vista Genomics on the bigger planetary ports (the one with shipyrads).
