I don’t know what Archer’s on but I can find at least three things wrong in his continued attempts to proclaim how Hudson should remain at power…

Kasumi Gotothree things wrong
"Three" as in "Rhea Three"? :]
13 Jun 2024, 2:48pm
Maybe. His calling out of it/Winters’ absence is certainly completely inconspicuous

Is it just me or does SCO wear off paint jobs significantly faster?
16 Jun 2024, 12:48am
I think it does? I’ve noticed that the “hidden”/‘deep’ integrity stat of the ship (at least my Krait Phantom when I was running a bunch of BGS stuff in the Bubble during the introduction with just the 5C available) got reduced a lot quicker than it usually would’ve been, through sustained use of it.

So it’s possible it goes for paintjobs too? Idk. I’ve been told it’s tied to supercruise distance travelled…

is it normal when finding a sample to travel several thousand KM without finding another? :/ my codex says a diverse sample should be a minimum of 500km away, but I've searched high and low and it's starting to seem like there's only one sample on this planet
16 Jun 2024, 8:47am
I depends on the type of sample but I never had anything farther than a few km.

Some planets just have absolutely terrible spawn chances for some bios. The main culprits are generally germs(bacteria) especially on distant icy worlds around brown dwarf “stars”, and Osseus on a planet which is filled with Tubus (or, occasionally, just Osseus by itself which refuses to appear).

I usually move on after I get too annoyed/bored looking for the stuff, although I also rarely bother with the brown dwarf bacteria now unless there’s a chance for it to be one of the volcanism-based types.

sigh it was in fact bacteria on an icy rock. i've given up on them three times now bc once i find the first sample, i end up wandering for ages and never finding another. womp womp womp

Some bio types are indeed very picky about the type of terrain they can spawn on. In particular, certain species of Osseus grow only on larger patches of rock sticking out of sand. I’ve had a few instances where I had to fly dozens of km over the terrain looking for the second/third specimen to sample. (A trick that makes certain bios, especially Osseus, easier to spot is to fly with night mode on — it makes those things look more distinct in daylight.) Bark mounds are even worse in this respect, although on the plus side if you find one you will almost always find the other two nearby.

In case of bacteria, there are two problems that one may encounter:
  • Some genera of bacteria are associated with geo features (geysers/fumaroles). You have first to find a field of those geo features, then fly around trying to spot bacterial colonies among them.
  • Several genera of bacteria generally do not stand out much from the terrain. On a distant, low light world it can be nigh impossible to see them without using lights and being quite close (which means it is easy to fly right past them and not notice them because your ship lights were pointing a few metres off to the side).

Now, if I decide to bother to go out to scan biologicals on a particular world, I do my best to scan all of them on that world. I recall two instances where I failed. One involved a planet with both bark mounds and brain trees; it appears that bark mounds cannot spawn where brain trees do, and in that particular case brain trees covered most of the world, including apparently every patch where bark mounds might spawn otherwise. (The other instance involved some atmospheric biological, AFAIR Osseus, which just refused to spawn anywhere I looked, and I looked a lot.)

Spotted a ganker camping at Chamberlain's Rest, keeping their Python Mk II pointed towards my landing pad, waiting for me to take off.

Let me guess, with the bait ship?

(I saw the gallery picture but forgot the name other than that ‘Gonk’ is a part of it.)
18 Jun 2024, 5:59am
Yes, the bait ship. I fly passengers from the starter base to nearby systems. That ganker has been there for days, apparently for seal clubbing. Attacked me twice so far but no luck. On arrival I approach the base at a very steep angle, so the glide ends inside the no-fire zone. At that point they can only try to get me by ramming, which isn't easy.

After all these years I still enjoy that cat-and-mouse game.

Exact same thing happened to me. Site swore up and down the carrier was still in my system and... Nope
