Played my first open game session yesterday and didn't get annoyed by crazy kids or cheated spaceships; was I just lucky or is the game really as enjoyable and constructive as the forum here?

Depends on where you go, and when. Shinrarta Dezhra is currently the game's main PvP playground. If you go there around prime time, there's a chance you'll get interdicted and attacked by someone. If your ship isn't hardened for this, better pass through in solo mode.

But that's just one system. 99.9999% of the bubble is calm and peaceful.

I play in open. I got ganked a few times but there were so many more positive encounters - like teamwork in AX combat zones. Just look at the Inara security report. It gives you current hot spots of gankers. Avoid these and you will be pretty safe.

Or beef up your ship and join the fun.

Unfortunately it takes a lot of engineering.

If you’re not looking for PvP action there’s not much of a point in going there. I mostly play Open for cooperation, not opposition (but then I am also not involved in Powerplay at all and barely in any kind of BGS dealings).

These days I mostly fly passenger missions. Taxi jobs from Jameson Memorial pay up to 2.5m Cr per ride, and they don't take long to complete, especially now with SCO drives. The fun part is the return trip to Shinrarta Dezhra. Unlike e.g. the Imperial Courier, the Adder is vulnerable enough to make this at least somewhat challenging. You just don't get the same level of thrill from NPC interdictions.

I tried to turn this into co-op play by creating a squadron of taxi pilots, but there wasn't much interest. It seems Apex Interstellar Transport got that market cornered already.

Spiel?

Go into counter-strike systems in medium AX combat areas. You will always find a Medusa there. Even two of them at once.

Any idea where and how to scan the "Thargoid wake data". I know it is useless, but just for the record. I am a bit lost about that subjekt.

Go to Thargoid space and do few jumps until you get hyperdicted. An interceptor will shutdown your ship then scan you and depart leaving wake to scan with a wake scanner.

Oh, I forgot that in Thargoid war zone you can be hyperdicted by aggressive variants... At least it was so last time I've played with those. Better go to the old Thargoid realms before the war if your ship cannot handle aggressive scouts and hunters.

Well... To give credit to the goids they are at least don't try to steal than drive a rubber (dummy decoy) tank.

Kasumi GotoOnly that it is doing what is advertised. Ish. Threat 7 will either be a spawn of Scouts + a Basilisk or a Medusa, so it is technically working as it is supposed to, you're just getting madly unlucky.

If you are somewhere populated, I remember there being a trick to it - if the NHSS is associated to a human faction, it is not going to spawn any Scouts, and thus is much more likely to contain an Interceptor. I remember it being like that, anyway. Memory might not be fully accurate, though (and the use of said information in my circles was very different to looking for a target to shoot, but it can work to that end as well).

... I would suggest just looking for the Thargoids in AXCZs of a system around one of the Titans in the Bubble, but RNG just as well is going to sometimes throw one or two Medusas or a combination of Basilisks, Cyclops and a Medusa, or only Cyclops, at you, for the duration of a single low intensity zone, so that's not exactly a "fix" either.

Thnks for the insight CMD, Did not know about the NHSS associated to human faction thing !
Well AXCZ seems to be the way, considering my luck!

Thanks for taking the time to reply and fly safe CMD

In Power Play, if I pledge to a power to unlock a specific module (i.e. Pack-Hounds) and manage to rank (level?) up to get the unlock, do I have to remain pledged to that power to be able to purchase the module in the future? If not, can I leave and re-pledge to buy more? Or does the grind start over? Should I buy a ton and keep a backstock instead?

Yes, the grind restarts if you leave and pledge again later. Many players indeed do keep a backstock for that reason.
