I understand your preference, Thinder. My thought, purely opinion, is finding the right fit. So, for you, for example: What types of ships do you prefer? What style of piloting? If your idea is to fly big ships and take on single targets, then you're already experimenting with potential concerns like heat management, threat management, and hardpoint convergence. If you want to get in, shred targets, and get out, then you'll need to adjust your builds and piloting.

This is what I'm doing, getting within Scanner range, seeing the target heart, hit it and bug out.

For the Scouts I have little issue taking them down.

Indy
  • I flew my favored AX build (Chieftain), killed an Interceptor (Cyclops) and about 3 Scouts 1v1. (That's one style. My preferred AX playstyle; floating in the cold, sniping one target for a long long time. Sniping nice and slow.)
  • [li]I flew my Anaconda AX build (recent addition), killed a dozen or so Scouts and an Interceptor (Cyclops) in an AXCZ on Solo. .

I'm not at this level yet, An interceptor in a 1 vs 1 is still a bit much for me but I kill dozen of Scouts on my own, last, during an interception on my way back to the station, we cleaned the CZ and I opted for repair and reload.

IndyEach ship has a different "feel" and a different intention. My Chieftain can stay out (whether 1v1 or AXCZ) for a long time. The other two are there for the kills.

I have a Pre-built Chieftain but I just finished the Anaconda build and engineering, I still have to take care of the Chieftain.

I treated the Anaconda with some little extras: Pre-Engineered 0I HEAT SINK LAUNCHER and 2B AUTO FIELD-MAINTENANCE UNIT Shielded ︎︎︎, 6D FRAME SHIFT DRIVE (SCO) Faster boot sequence ︎︎︎︎︎ Thermal Spread.

If this war goes on long enough, I should be able to use the experience I have with previous build for the other ships, my Corvette needs completing as well as the Chieftain, it takes time and resources.

I use my Imperial Cutter with six modified AX Multicannons and a 4A beam laser with healing effect to restore the shields of allied ships (CMDR's and NPC's). A 7A multi-controller is also installed for allied hull repairs. Decontamination drones generally do not need the CMDR's. They usually have a Caustic Luncher installed. Things are different with NPCs. They don't have a Caustic Luncher and often needed help. I also installed an AFM for my ship repairs to the modules. My primary goal with the imperial cutter is to help in AX combat zones and fight (secondarily) when necessary. I have the most fun with the larger ships and the others thank you for it. Unfortunately, there are too few CMDRs that equip such auxiliary ships to help efficiently. I don't have to rely on the credits from the fight. I've had enough of it.

This is what I love about what you're doing. Trying things out, seeing what works, learning, etc.

I meant only to follow up on my statement about "any ship is an AX ship" in stating that style and practice matter most. I think you're finding yours and that's what I think makes AX great. Creating an "ideal" AX ship pre-built or otherwise would suggest that there is nothing to AX other than "stick 'em with the pointy end".

The journey matters more than the destination, IMO. AX is a journey.

Is this like a (bad) stunlock?

Saw that condition happening to a Hydra yesterday for the first time (in CoOp). Except here we were able to merrily taking out one heart after the other.

I humbly guess that was a networking or other software issue, interpreted as some sort of new and unknown Thargoid behaviour.

During some sessions in Open, I saw Thargoids getting stuck in the sky, unable to move or turn. Targeting, shooting, missiles, EMP, shield and other stuff worked, the things just refused to move.

By the time I arrived the Hydra was frozen already. Two ships were there before me, one of which was a gibbing Conda. So I thought it was this maneuver:

Quite possibly it might have been a network flaw as well though because - now that you mention it - the Conda too did not do a whole lot other than laser tagging.

I have noticed dodgy interceptor behavior in Open instances with dodgy connectivity a couple of times. Like the thing just heading off in a straight line and not or barely shooting anything, occasionally zapping somebody or forgetting to raise a shield when a heart goes down. Or completely getting stuck not doing anything at all, two cases which have made the easiest Hydra kills in experience so far.

Or that time I encountered a drunk Hydra after its HP bar disappeared at 70%(ish).

Drunken Hydra :-) Makes me want to go barhopping now...

I was referring specifically to AXZ in open space. Medusa is not stunned, it is as active as it could possibly be. I took down 50 of them all sole, I know what I am talking about. Recently I also noticed that basilisks acquired that ability as well though it only lasts for a short period of time for them.

Different than the usual sleep phase of Interceptors?
Still best to just float and chill like usual, right? (That's my go-to.)

Well, in the meantime between my postings I took another sole trip to LUHMAN 16 and I managed to take down the 51st medusa. LUHMAN 16 is free from goids. Azimuth Enhanced AXMCs are the best.

I have not seen the sleep phase for interceptors in AXZ open space. It is better to know when to attack and when to chill and boost away as soon as you can beyond 3km range.

The journey matters more than the destination, IMO. AX is a journey.

100%! I finally have had enough to run from an Interceptor when interdicted, losing 20% HP for nothing, and I was about to kill it when I got help from a human ship that popped in, followed by a group of Scouts... Got the kill, + 4 Scouts before deciding to bug out, I guess I can take an Interceptor down on my own but the problem are the Scouts waves after that.

I figured I lose 1% HP by Scout kill when fighting a swarm like this... (corrected, I wrote Interceptor for Scouts).

They apply a new tactic now, you can't travel from the station to a CZ without being intercepted, I'm gonna change CZ and see how it goes but if I score kills this way, it doesn't help in the CZ and I have to repair anyway...

Q: How do you keep track of those kills? The Xeno Hunter badge only go as high as 10/10...

It's a way to do it. For my part, I target their attackers unless I'm too low in HP and need to repair. Better go repair than lose a ship but assist works.

I have 4 X 0I HEAT SINK LAUNCHER Ammo capacity ︎ with 4 X rounds each, which allowed me to fit 2 X 0I CAUSTIC SINK LAUNCHER, I only figured how to use the latest recently, it is not instinctive and one need to read about it and watch videos...

Wow, Thinder! I just looked at your Thargoid kill count, after you asked about tracking. Your numbers have skyrocketed during this Sol event. Impressive!
Any reason you're sticking to Scouts and Cyclops? Seems like you could take on Basilisks etc., if you're chewing through those so quickly. Just getting used to the build and rhythm?
