Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Express Yourself was the credo of the pseudo-religious keepers of Irrational Exuberance. As long as you kept enough material on yourself to preserve decency for the very mildly prudish, and didn’t interfere or disrupt anyone else’s ability to express, anything goes on Irrational Exuberance. Artists created, musicians played, and performers performed. People in stylish bright clothes peacocked for each other in an effort to decide who the coolest dandy on the concourse was.

Creamy stuck around that impromptu contest for a while dancing his way down a catwalk made of the space between cheering contestants. While his suit would make everyone gorp at him in disbelief on almost any other station, here he was a minor league contender. His suit didn’t even have a fin that opened and shimmered, truing him into the likeness of a two-legged tropical fish plying his moves for a female of the spices. After congratulating the clear winner, a tall wiry dark-skinned man with dance moves Creamy was going to practice and master, he wondered off looking for the next fancy that took him.

While deciding if he enjoyed watching the inhuman mechanical contortions of body-modders or not, a warm soft hand momentarily closed on Creamys’ fingers.

“Hi, I hope you don’t mind me talking with you. You seem like the only other normal person I’ve seen here” said an uncertain woman’s voice.

Standing beside him was a raven-haired woman with pale skin wearing a tight red dress. Her hair and completion made the dress seem a deeper red than it actually was; the little dress sat on her very well indeed. She was regarding the front of Creamys’ suit now he had turned, and uncertainty had chased away the friendly smile she had tried to greet him with.

“Ar” said Creamy tugging on the hem of his jacket. “When in Rome as they say” he offered in way of explanation. “I take it this is your first visit to Irrational Exuberance hmm? It can be a little overwhelming”

“That’s an understatement. I was told this was the place to party, but I had no idea”

She looked around bewildered putting Creamy in mind of a kitten dropped in a lions’ den.

“It’s alright” hummed Creamy in a friendly tone “They are well aware this place can be overwhelming to visitors, and there are chill-out rooms for the uninitiated all over the place if you know where to look”

Creamy offered his arm to the woman.

“The name’s Creamy, Lord Goodness of Cubeo Threes’ northern territories. Would you care for an escort?”

When they arrived at a chill-out room, Belladonna was careful to steer Creamy in so he wouldn’t see Thade waiting behind the padded archway. It didn’t work. Somewhere in Creamys’ simple mind, a voice was telling him this wasn’t right. His experiences with the Doctor had made him cautious when his amorous intentions bubbled to the surface.

Creamy did a quick check to see if the booth was empty; he saw the man with a gun raised and reacted with uncanny speed. Thade had anticipated this would happen thanks to having studied Vodan and the bounty hunters' attempts to capture Creamy before and stepped back leaving his gun in reach of the lordling. As expected, Creamy snatched at the weapon in an effort to disarm his attacker and a swift foot was sailing towards Thades’ ribs. As soon as the lanyard attached to the pistols' modified energy was pulled tight, the shock-pack Thade had fitted to the weapon triggered and over fifty thousand volts shocked Creamy ridged and activated his lapels.

While Adam did the twist with God, Thade and Belladona beat Creamy unconscious.

Walking down the walkway dressed as Tifa Lockhart from FFVII a cyan/grey furred woman with white tiger stripes, green eyes, and four tails looked for a chill-out room. Her fox like ears twitched at the sound of some nice music before she turned away from it, and a group that was making cat calls at her. Most thought she had gotten the best gene-mods to look like she does, but the truth was much more fun. Even if it meant that if others knew most would likely want to kill her. Rain Starwind is an alien that was raised by a human exploration group after finding her near a crash alien ship.

Rain loved Irrational Exuberance station as one of the few places she could walk around without her hologram to hide herself. It just never can hide her tails or ears. She landed on station for a cosplay event that she got second place in. That Zelda cosplay was really good for a first timer. Rain smiled thinking of how happy the girl was.

Her ears perked at the sound of what sounded like a control panel shorting out. The kitsune like woman quickly reached for her comm-link before the sound of someone being beat up on followed. It wasn't like this wasn't normal, but the chill-out rooms normal weren't where it happened. Someone could walk in if you didn't lock the door.

She looked in the half open door to see two people punching a third on the floor. Rain couldn't let it slide as she slipped into the room and closed the door.

"I know his outfit is loud, but there are some that are far worse." Rain said grabbing the arm of the guy and twisting it hard. "So why don't you two stop before I get rough with you two." Her tone made it clear it wasn't a request kicking the woman off the guy on the floor. The steel toed boots got a nice crunch sound from the woman's ribs.
05 Apr 2021, 12:39am
Where the hell were they? The other two should have been here by now to help them carry Creamy away. Instead, one of Irrationals wierdos had burst in and taken out Belladonna. Thade raised his pistol and fired at the girl-dog-thing. Her interference with Thades’ careful plan and her unexpected countenance helped Theade forget he needed to replace the weapons energy cell. The pistol made a weak charging sound and the faint glow in the barrel faded.

“Damn it!” Exclaimed Thade “Can’t you freaks just stick to ya conventions and leave us normal people alone?”

He backed away as he insulted the newcomer and slid a fresh E-Cell into his Pistol.
05 Apr 2021, 12:58am
Rain growled as he insulted her getting a fresh E-Cell in his pistol and snorted. Firing that gun would set off the alarm and bring the police. That was the last thing she needed again. A few got a little to handsy with her.

"Normal is over rated." Rain growled moving faster then he could has expected as she knocked his gun away and lands a punch in his gut. She then grabbed his shirt and flipped him over her should onto the floor hard. "Lights out!" She growled bringing her fist down on his face to knock him out.
05 Apr 2021, 4:50pm
She went over to check on the guy that was being beat up. "Great. He's out like a light. I need to get him out of here, and woke up." Rain opened the door to see if there was anyone else with the other two. Instead she came face to face with a friend of hers dressed as Shantae with even the purple long hair. "Sara?"

"What happened, Rain? I saw you go in here and heard a small fight." Sara asked as Rain opened the door to show her. "Another bunch jumping someone?"

"looks like it, but the guy with the bloody nose had a gun. Help me with this dude here." The Kitsune said grabbing the blonde man's arm and lifting him up. "We can take him to Marry. She's got smelling slats."

Sara got the guys other arm and the two quickly dragged the man out of the room. Rain was happy no one was asking question about why they were dragging someone around. Not like it wasn't normal somedays when someone passed out during an act, or not getting enough air with a tight outfit. The two dragged the blonde down the walkaway and took a left toward a large stage area. Near the entry was a large tent setup with a red cross on it. They rushed in to see an elderly woman treating a kid that scraped their knee.

"Hey Marry." Rain said with a grin. She loved the old lady like she was her grandmother. "We've got a punch out over here." She said as Sara helped her lay the man they carried on one of the cots. "He got jumped by a pair of thugs in a chillout room."

"Oh dear. I'll get the smelling salts." Marry said giving the kid a candy bar before she got the salts. Marry's grey hair is pulled back in a pony tail and she stands just under five feet tall. Pushing eighty something years in age didn't stop her from still holding four black belts in martial arts. Another reason why most didn't start fights in, or around her tent.

Rain had to step back a little with how good her sense of smell was better then most humans. She was still close enough to be seen by the blonde guy as Marry waved the smelling salts under his nose.
05 Apr 2021, 6:51pm
“Gah what! Oh my” Said Creamy pushing away the hand under his face. “No Thank you grandmamma, Farther knows when you’ve been at his brandy”

Creamy focused on the kindly old face, its owner was quietly chuckling to herself. She clearly wasn’t his Grandmother, so a confused Creamy looked around to see if he could work out where he was. He was in some sort of marque that should have been out of place on a space station, but this was Irrational Exuberance so why ever not have a tent on the concourse?

There were two other people besides the elderly dwarf in the canvas room with him, but Creamy decided whatever happened to him had involved hallucinogenic drugs because one of the people didn’t look right. Creamy closed his eyes pushing his eyebrows high up his forehead as he rolled his eyes around behind his eyelids a few times. When he opened them, he gave the subject of his disbelief a second look. The image hadn’t changed.

“I do apologise, but …”

Creamy stopped himself. Was there a polite way to tell someone they look like a dog? He made an effort to piece together a polite inquiry and ran it through his mind rather than ask out loud.

‘Pardon me I fear I may be hallucinating. Would you happen to be a person of the canine persuasion?’

No, that wouldn’t do. No matter how he worded it, it sounded like he was calling someone a dog and that was most impolite. Suddenly he remembered he was with a woman when a man had drawn a gun on him. Again. Being held at gunpoint in the company of a pleasant woman had become far too common an occurrence.

“I was with a young lady. About a head shorter than me, silky black hair with alabaster skin. She is wearing a red dress with matching heels. Does anyone know if she's alright?”

Creamy made an effort to sit up and found it as difficult as not staring at the puppy-person a few feet away.

"She was helping some guy beat you up. I'm guessing you got setup by her and the guy knocked you out somehow." Rain said taking note he was trying not to look at her. "You're not seeing thing. I am a Kitsune, or a fox if you want. I'm Rain Starwind and to my right here is Sara Sandstar dressed as Shantae from the old games."

"Hi!" Sara said waving at him with a grin. "Rain here knocked the two out and we brought you here. Marry is the best doctor on station."

"Hush. I'm no vault hunter after all." Marry chuckled checking over the blonde man. "So what's your name dear?"

Now he was sitting straight and had caught up with himself, Creamy understood he had been played. He should have known after he saw the woman’s inexperienced efforts cover the holes left by recently removed face pricings. Now someone had said it was obvious that the woman in red was simply bait.

“Oh, right yes. I see” He said looking away from the questioning eyes for a moment, ashamed of falling for such a clumsy honey trap. “Introductions! Forgive me I’m usually far more polite. The name’s Creamy, Lord Goodness of Cubeo Three’s Northern territories”

He pushed himself off the trolley bed testing out his feet. He felt plenty of aches where he must have been hit after lights out, but not enough pain to cause him to do more than wince.

“Thank you for your medical attentions Doctor, I’ll settle up with you shortly” He said patting his pockets for his credit wallet. “Yes, there it is, I can pay the bill at least”

Turning to the two girls, Creamy offered his hand to the genie-looking girl.

“A pleasure Sara. Thank you for shining a light on your friends’ heroics. It would seem…” Creamy had to stop himself again, he was about to say ‘Dogs are man’s best friend’ He scolded himself internally and corrected his thinking. “..I have a guardian angel”

Turning his attention to Rain, Creamy took her hand in both of his.

“Thank you very much Ms Starwind. Let me see, I didn’t do very well on oriental mythology, but I do tend to remember stories about beautiful women. Were some fox spirits not supposed to have disguised themselves as attractive girls to lure lone men away and eat them? I do hope you didn’t save me as a snack” he finished with a playful smile.

Creamy fort the urge to gently scrunch up her velvety-looking ears. He’d seen people with animal cosmetic surgery before, but Rain was a work of art. When he realised he was appraising Rain like a fine painting, he had to say something or she’d think he was weird.

“Forgive me please I didn’t mean to appear rude. It’s that, well you’re a unique beauty”

"Thank you." Rain said with a light blush, but her fur hides it. "I'm not like the Kitsune of lore as... Well I'm not using gene-mods, and surgery. You can guess what that means I hope."

Sara chuckled. "I don't know. Can he really guess what it means when gene-mods, surgery, and the like aren't why you're the way you are." She grinned waiting to see if Creamy did put it together. "Besides, we still have those two that jumped him to worry about. Did they have anyone else around?"

"If they did. Then I'm guessing they're were late when I stepped in." Rain said as her tails twitched with worry. "If I hadn't caught them off guard and that guys gun was empty I'd have been hurt."

If a joke needed explaining, it wasn’t funny and the two girls had just given him a science quiz after Creamy’s little ‘saving me for a snack’ quip. Cutting his losses, Creamy unlocked a cred-stick and gave it to the little doctor.

“Take what you need doctor and thank you once again”

Creamy couldn’t help thinking of Nerys every time he said, Doctor. He’d enjoyed calling her that; it embarrassed her a little as if she didn’t want people to know she was accomplished. He didn’t indulge his reverie longer than a moment, there was an important matter right here and now.

“I take it you didn’t recognise them as local trouble makers Rain? I’m assuming you’re well acquainted with this station?” Asked Creamy with a quizzical cocking of his head.

“I have a feeling an old problem has found me again. It’s been a few months so I believed it left behind. Dashed annoying, I only came here to see if I could employ a co-host for my show”
06 Apr 2021, 2:41pm
Marry handed Creamy his cred-stick back after taking only 10,000 credits. "You just be more careful out there, dear. It's not like you'll have that same luck of someone like Rain showing up to save you again."

"Well, they won't anyone I knew. Plus, when I threw that guy his weight was off." Rain said thinking for a moment. "He might have a cybernetic leg. I know enough people here to have an idea who lives here, and who's just passing through."

"Marry and I live here so we would know too." Sara said. "I have no idea who those two were. As for a co-host." She smirked looking at Rain.

The Kitsune's ears flatten. "No. We don't even know where Creamy is going with his show. Plus, any where else I have to have my hologram on, or some numbskull tries to start something. That or everyone freaks out."

"Okay. Creamy, tell us about this old problem and we can help you get to your ship. I think Fred has a few outfits with masks to help you hide in the crowds too." Sara said getting some ideas for hiding Creamy. "I hope station police picked those two up at least."

"We didn't call it in, so I don't think so." Rain muttered.
06 Apr 2021, 8:18pm
“Sorry girls, the auditions were over weeks ago and I’m not looking for A Host, I’m after poaching The Host, Benny Cosmo” Creamy said the name as if he was trying to employ the Emperor herself.

“He’s frontman at the Gallaway Arena, the biggest venue on this station. He’s why I came here this time”

Creamy tucked his credit wallet back into his jacket.

“I’d very much like a G’n’T before I go play dress up, and I don’t think the Doctor’s office, tent.. Toffice? Offent?” pondered creamy looking around the first aid station.

“Anyway, do you girls know of a nice little bar off the beaten track? I’d like to consider reporting the incident, although I understand if you would like to keep your involvement out of it Rain. It would be unbelievably ignorant of me not to let Mr Cosmo know why I’m not going to make our meeting as well”
06 Apr 2021, 8:48pm
"It's fine. There's a gaming bar just down the way from here." Rain said with a chuckle. "I'll take you there. Sara you go find the others and give them a heads up, please."

"You got it." Sara said heading out of the tent. She ducked back in with a grim look. "Hey, don't do anything to crazy while I'm getting the others, okay?" She glared at Rain.

"Only if things stay as is, Sara. Besides the bar isn't that far, and there's a VR battle going to happen there soon." Rain said looking to Marry. "Thanks again for the help, Marry."

"It's nothing at all dear. If they poke around here I'll deal with them." Marry chuckled cracking her knuckles with a smile.

"Let's go." Rain said as Sara stepped out again and the Kitsune held open the tent flap. She leads Creamy just off the main street like walkway to a bar named, "Burning Finger Bar".

The empty glass was pushed aside and Creamy continued his story.

“After the set too on Hauser's Reach, the Doctor and I separated. I stayed behind to make sure no one was after Nerys and we met up at Citi Gateway a few days later. We were on her ship in the dock, the little DBX I gave her, and some more chaps had a pop at us; only this time they were after Nerys”

Keeping a clear head was important so Creamy ordered a lemonade and put Rains’ next drink on his bill.

“Well, after a bit of an adventure we got away. Nerys went with some friends and I hung back to get my ship. We were separated again when they flew into an area of space I’ve agreed to steer clear of”

With a shrug, Creamy finished his tail.

“That was a couple of months ago and I’ve not had a sniff out of any of them since so I was under the impression it was all over”

He was about to leave it there, but this girl had put herself in danger on his behalf and he didn’t want to see a repeat of what had happened before.

“Listen, I doubt this is connected, but I’d not like to think of a nice young lady like yourself caught up in my mess. You know, barring an ambush I’m capable of looking after myself don’cha know” he said with a confident smile.
06 Apr 2021, 11:46pm
Rain sipped her drink, a nice ice tea, as she listened to Creamy's story. She wasn't that surprised he had an adventures life with many good people along the way too. It was this group that held a grudge that worried her as the barkeep brought her a second ice tea. Not far from them was a group of Gundam Build Driver fans watching a local battle going on.

"As true as that is, I'm going to point out you did get suckered by a pretty face." Rain said sipping her ice tea with a smirk. "Not a bad thing, but they seem to know how to hook you. I can deal with just about anything myself since I'm normally out exploring to find clues to where I'm really from. Just dressed like this I'm not really packing my normal guns is all." She sighed wondering if they should go to her ship so she can get changed, and grab her weapons. "You carrying anything with you in case they try again?"

"Don't look now, but we've got two that just came in looking ready to fight." The barkeep said. A man that looked very much, and sounded like Ramba Ral. "One is sporting a bloody nose as well. I'm guessing station police didn't get to them in time."

"Boy did they pick the wrong bar." Rain chuckled as she elbowed Creamy. "If you like we could get some answers out of them."
