Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Ah, crap... What the heck those bottles are? What wine? What cellar?.. Shit... What's the goddamn delirium... Delirium... Ah, okay, okay, I know where it goes... But, crap, why? He was completely okay? What the... I took my hand off the rifle grip and detached the medkit from the belt. Hah... Your make-up bag before 30? Make-up bag. Your make-up bag after 30? Medkit.

"Here... I'm going to give you these", I said, showing Creamy two different pills, "Mild tranquiliser and neuroleptic... They won't make you drowsy, but can stabilise you, your... stream of thoughts will be slower, easier to control... Ah, don't ask."

Thankfully, those space suits had an external medport for emergency medication in vacuum, so, putting both pills into it and activating the injector, I said, still looking at the face of my companion: "You'll be fine..within few minutes..hah, they're expensive like hell."

"Ah. I know where it goes", I said again, looking at the pill box in my hand. Then I got another tranquiliser pill and inserted it into my own medport. At least we had quite plenty of oxygen in our suits...
07 Nov 2021, 7:45pm
“Good grief woman!” exclaimed Creamy. “I’m in mourning for the loss of some incredible wines, not hysterical”

Creamy sat up and fiddled with his suit to try and stop the medication from entering his system.

“I need quiet platitudes and reassuring understanding, not industrial graded tranquilizers. I’ll have you know I’m very careful about what drugs I put in my body, and I require you ask my permission if I am able to give it before you medicate me again”
07 Nov 2021, 8:37pm
I was kind of... lost for words. Just.. Creamy was looking really unhealthy just a minute ago and now he's... Angry at me for trying to help? Crap... I just can't explain it.. Again. Okay. Okay. Let's check it...

"Hmm... Okay. Okay. Calm down. Wine? Where's the wine here? What kind of wine could withstand that cold? What's my name? What's the name of the woman whom I helped a few months ago?"
07 Nov 2021, 8:59pm
Creamy took a breath and tried not to picture the carnage in the small section of modified cargo bay he called his wine cellar.

“None” he huffed. “At this temperature, they will have all frozen and pushed out the corks, or cracked the bottles. Even if they didn’t, in freezing, the wine will have separated meaning once defrosted; it wouldn’t even be fit for turning into vinegar”

Sighing once more, Creamy looked at the floor recollecting the adventure he had creating his collection.

“I spent months, travelled thousands of light years and carefully curated that small collection. In it, I had four bottles that collectors envied, and connoisseurs’ would pay a hefty sum just to inhale the bouquet. All gone because I couldn’t remember where I parked this damn ship”

“What a senseless waste” he lamented, shaking his head.

Finely looking at Meowers, Creamy answered the second question.

“Her name was Cinny, short for Cynthia, I imagine. Didn’t get a second name before she and her sister kicked me off their ship. Can’t see how that’s going to help, but there you are Mrs Muir”
07 Nov 2021, 9:38pm
Ah, the heck. Her name is Jacqueline. Something was really strange with this guy now... He stopped the injector to prevent the effect of my meds... And now he's looking completely odd. Just a few moments ago he was just.. Almost rolling on the floor from pain, or panic, or whatever. Now..He's confident and..Okay? Like..What?!

So...Slowly turning to the right, making it look like I've tried to spot something in the darkness, I've put my hand on the rifle grip. And then made a pair of steps backwards, until I touched the wall... I know he's a decent melee fighter, I'm not a weakling either, but no match for him... I prefer shooting...

"Okay. The wine is gone now. But... Why are we here? Can you tell me? What we have to do with that ship?", I said, looking in his eyes.
07 Nov 2021, 10:10pm
"What are you talking about, oddball?" Enquired Creamy as he got to his feet.

"Did you bump your head with the hatch when you closed it? We are here because you got a contract to kill me, and then pop along here and steal something from my ship. Fortunately, you decided not to pull the lo' trigger."

"Is this some ploy to take my mind off the Celler because it's worked. Trying to drug and chap and then battering him with questions is an odd tactic, but ya got me worrying about you instead now. Best get to work before we get caught in a loop, what?"
08 Nov 2021, 12:32am
"Crap... I'm sorry, but nevertheless. You was looking like you'd seen something really fearsome. And also you was green like a zombie and about to throw up. Two damn minutes ago. Now you're standing here like you're totally okay, ah, don't worry, nothing happened, blah blah blah. And you're calling me an oddball now. Huh.", I was trying to reason with him, talking as much calm as it was even possible, as..Who knows what he does when he's angry? And looking at that guy now.. I wasn't really sure that.. he was at the controls, if you know what I mean.

"Also.. Her name is Jacqueline. And, well, if I wanted to steal that.. whatever it might be, I'd have pulled the trigger back then. Now, the contract is gone. I have no reason to stay here. Except being curious, and also... I think you won't last long on that paralysed ship without Marshmallow hanging outside".
08 Nov 2021, 9:34am
“I do apologise Mrs Muir, I have upset you and that was not my intention” Said Creamy turning around to talk directly to Meowers.

“My collection was very dear to me, and I didn’t realise it may have been ruined until I regarded the cold, and I was somewhat upset. As for the medication, I am incredibly careful about what I put in my body, but I should not have been so terse with you when you were simply doing what you thought best”

He put down the power cell and tools he was carrying, then brought his heels together. Creamy bowed from the waist with his left hand on his chest.

“Regardless, the fault was mine, please forgive my ill manor Mrs Muir”
08 Nov 2021, 12:51pm
And I just..sighed. Maybe out of relief. Maybe because you can't effectively facepalm in vacuum, wearing a helmet. Ah, we have to restore the atmosphere, so I may freely facepalm myself to concussion. And the palm, yeah.. Took my hand off the grip, letting the rifle hang loose on the belt..Uh. Don't get me wrong. I didn't want to shoot the guy, safety was on anyway, just point it at him maybe... To shake him enough. To make him come back to reality. From what was looking like..losing the control over yourself. And he was angry.

"Uhhh... Must admit, I was wrong too. But, well, that reaction was strange enough to make me believe you're really not okay", I said finally, trying to come up with words..that wouldn't contain something like 'what the heck happened to you'. Then added though, that he should really tell me if he feels strange, feared or even hallucinating. Walking onboard the ship that was abandoned for two years, and that weird glow around it... It might be hard to process properly.

Really, should go and visually inspect the drive and power plant machinery before trying to wake them up. And what's the source of that glow...
08 Nov 2021, 1:12pm
"Thank you Mrs Muir" said Creamy straightening up. "Lots to do, and I see it this way. I'll toottel off to the Bridge with one of the power cells and see if I can't get Ninette back online. She's more than ya standard COVAS, and I'm certain she, sorry, it can be of assistance"

He started picking up his tools and the cell.

"She'll be far more use to you with the power and what-not than I would, I'm sorry to say. If you don't mind dealing with that side of things, that is?"

An afterthought struck Creamy thinking about the extreme cold.

"Do take care around any fabrics you encounter. You know, curtains, carpets and so on. If there was sufficient moisture in the air, they may have become brittle. Wouldn't want you to slip on a shattered rug or concussed by a slab of drape as it fell"
08 Nov 2021, 1:50pm
So, I had to go down to the technical section of the ship. Walking there, along the dark corridors, with only a little helmet flashlight... Wasn't the most effective way to inspect the machinery. And I never worked with Anacondas before... Had a Cobra in my early flying days, however, and all those Faulcon deLacy drives and powerplants were similar, those were just big. So... Looking good so far. No leaks, no ice except the usual thin frost, no visual damage... And I can't do much more in that darkness. Anyway, the usual system boot sequence includes self-test.

"Looks good", I said, hoping that the comms are working fine and signal can get through so much bulkheads and reinforcement packages. "Wait a few minutes, I have to leave this place, and then power it up".
08 Nov 2021, 2:14pm
"Yep, still trying to get enough power to the right system to reboot the COVAS"

He had tried three power points so far, and the most he had achieved was making the holo-projector glow a little. On his back, looking for the anything that looked like it lead back to the COVAS, Creamy found another socket and tried it. A small touch screen illuminated and shortly after the word initiating appeared over a task bar.

"Jolly hockey sticks. OW!" exclaimed the imperial as he bumped his head.

The top hatch opened again. A man armed with an energy pistol checked the short corridor and stood guard at the doorway while the Doctor and another trooper entered. His arm raised to chest height, Doctor Hochstein waited for the Guardian sigil to pull him in the right direction.

"It's towards the centre of the ship, mid-decks. Lead the way" He told the armed man ahead of him.

Soon Meowers would pay for her mercenary attitude, and the Alliance would learn that Hochstein was not wrong, the extinct race did have another solution humanity could use.
08 Nov 2021, 2:56pm
"What's up there?", I said, going through sections of that large ship. Looks like Creamy encountered some complications... Ah, okay, I'll better go to the bridge as well to control the startup and system self-test. "Hold on. I'm coming to you, will monitor the booting sequence."

And that glow... Hmm... I've noticed that it wasn't so saturated, it was almost invisible, when you was inside the ship, but... Some walls in the mid-section were like..glowing stronger than others? What's..this? Ah, damn. I'll better help him with restoring the power and activating the drive, and then I'll get the hell out of here...
08 Nov 2021, 6:14pm
So, I was walking through another corridor... Then, all of a sudden, two armed men appeared. They were hiding behind the door in one of the bulkheads. And they opened fire. Instantly. Shit! With almost nowhere to hide, I was in the plain sight. Shit...It was an ambush. One pistol, one automatic carbine. How did they get there...

I had to retreat..Firing a short burst at the door did nothing, except some deep burn marks, they jumped back instantly..Hiding behind some airlock door frame, I looked at the shield indicator, took some shots..Damn, sixty three already... And I can't hide completely, they were still firing. Crap, another hit...

"Shit! Creamy, I'm under attack here! Armed hostiles in the ship! Seeing two, could be more!"

Damn, they were no your typical ragtag army or military jarheads... Modified weapons, accuracy, all that crap..And another hit.. Every time I tried to fire at them, they were hiding, and..uh, I was too slow with the big rifle in that narrow corridor. Should I..pin them down? Crap! Creamy was unarmed! How the..Crap! If they had a ship, they could attack Marsmallow! Hm, wrist computer..Her shields are still full, str..Crap, another hit..fourty seven.

I was under serious pressure here and should plan a counterattack. But I had to pin them down before that..Unfolding the bipod, I've jumped forward, ignoring the shots, to lay down on the floor. Then a long burst. Suppressive fire. Still no hits, but bulkhead was damaged already, door was blown off the hinges. I could just punch through with a sheer firpower...Crap, then they threw a grenade at me..

I've jumped back as fast as possible..Then, bang. I've closed my eyes..Only to see a piercing white light. It was a flashbang grenade..So..They're trying to capture me? Bring it on, you shits! Landing on the floor again, I've aimed quickly and made another long burst, hitting the bulkhead. It was, like, thirty metres between us. So, they threw another flashbang, forcing me to put my head down and close my eyes, and I've squeezed the trigger, hoping to hit at least something..Then another flashbang from one of them, and a carbine burst, shit, shields are down, I had to retreat quickly, but, I was almost blind.

I stood up from the floor and tried to run backwards, keeping them under fire..Until I felt that piercing pain in my right arm, just above the elbow..Crap, the rifle recoil..

Another hit, in the stomach..And several flashbang grenades..

Damn it..

Come on, hit at least someone..Damn, out of ammo..

I've put the rifle on my back again and took the pistol..another flash..Shit..

Hit in the shoulder..Fff..Painful, damnit..Argh..I've coughed..Damn, smells like blood..

"Creamy, shit..Bad, really.."

They grabbed my arms, both..Fff..Another shot, right leg..My armour is good, but still..Too...much...

When I was able to see at least something, it was..Those two armed men holding me, hah, one had a burn mark on the armour..On the torso. If only I could hit him once more..Second had a blood dropping from his arm, but still nothing serious. And a third one, standing in front. Looking into my eyes..Ah, come on. What..Damn..Those blood drops in the helmet, can't see them well enough..Yeah, come on, suckers..
09 Nov 2021, 12:02am
Continued from The Sentinel Fulcrum, 5: Rebirth

Uh..So, it was quite painful, and that freezing air.. My vision was blurred, dizzy, I couldn't focus on anything, that piercing pain was.. Tolerable, but still hard enough. Armour protected me well to remain functional even after four hits, hah, even tried to escape, those mercs had a hard time holding me, even when I was wounded..

And then I saw Creamy entering the room and starting a fight, sending their leader flying straight into one merc who was holding me. He drew his pistol, releasing my arm, and tried to attack my companion, so, another fight started... Hah..Looks like Creamy heard me over the comms.. And it was the showdown time!

With only one of them holding me, it was an easy fight. My left, intact arm was free, and I turned around instantly, punching him in the face. And then the second blow, with the left foot, in the stomach. Had to balance on the right..A bit painful, but still tolerable...My pistol was nowhere to be found, so I took the knife. And, when this guy tried to reach his carbine, recovering from my punch, I've stabbed him right in the neck. The unarmoured place. His shields were still down after the firefight. Watching his eyes widening in the shock..I've turned the blade ninety degrees. A fountain of blood from his jugular vein had filled the air, dissipating into quickly freezing drops. It poured onto my helmet glass and the suit, painting them red. This scum had no chances to stay alive now. Wiping the blood from the glass with my hand, I'd pulled the knife from his neck.

Those combat armour suits had an emergency medication reserves to keep you fighting a bit longer..And I was glad that my medport remained intact. So, feeling the cocktail of adrenaline and painkillers filling my blood, I've shouted on the comms.

"One down! Hold on, I'm coming!"
