Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Goddamn...Folks, you're all going to die today", quietly, whispering, I let this Universe know my tactical analysis results, and then opened the entry airlock remotely. Using our jetpacks, we floated inside... I was watching my wrist computer all the way to cockpit. Shields were still above the half, but it won't last too long... Those seconds were, maybe, the longest in my life, had to lock the rifle in the holding clamps, while my companion was taking his place in the co-pilot seat, and then..Reach my seat using only arms and this jetpack. Legs were still completely numb..I could move them..a bit.. But couldn't feel anything. And, yeah, the right arm..Shit. I was a mess.

Uh..No, next seconds were longer. I left the ship systems online, but still had to power up the engines...Shields were at forty percent already, that goddamn T-10 was too close to miss even a single shot. And the progress bar was just..sickeningly slow.

Once startup was completed, I boosted away, squeezing the button, right towards the cursed Anaconda, and saw that.. monstrous thing leaving the bridge through the breached canopy. And Marshmallow slipped past it at full speed, just a few metres away.
11 Nov 2021, 6:05pm
Doctor Hochstein made a swipe at the Marshmallow as it passed failing to get any of his hooks to catch the hull. All the effort managed, was to send him wheeling in the wake of the escaping ship. The Type 10 however was much slower on the turn chasing its target, and Hochstein got a firm hold of that ship hull.

“Essential systems prioritised Captain, power to population and defensive systems” Reported Creamy.

Meowers didn’t look fit to fly, but they would both look a lot worse if that giant ship kept pounding on them. Escape now, heal later was the best plan of action.

“Ready to transfer energy to weapons if you engage” said Creamy while he was using the little stick that controlled the external cameras.

Unfortunately, he found what he was looking for. Glistening in the light from the many active weapon banks, Creamy saw the thing on the ships’ hull.

“Captain, the creature is on the hostile ship. Image on screen two”
11 Nov 2021, 7:11pm
"Thank you..for the..heads-up", I said, hiding Marshmallow behind one of the many lookalike icy asteroids and activating the shield recharge battery. Hardpoints were fully deployed by now. "Attaching to the ship..Wise. T-10? Dumb."

"See, powerplant is..the weakest spot of each..ship", I resumed my explanations. "But it's super weak on a T-10...Placed right in the middle..Exposed..to fire from above..and below. With that beast inside..or not..T-10 is too..slow and clumsy."

Turning Marshmallow to face the asteroid, I activated the lateral thrusters and moved to the right. Hostile ship was closing in, distance... One and a half kilometres. And it was surrounded by the same weird blue glow.

"Two arses, one boot", I've stated, pressing the boost button to slip past the posessed T-10.

The turn was an obvious hint as to what was going to happen. Still keeping the cameras on the T-10, Creamy got ready to give the Marshmallow maximum bite.

"Primary power to engines. You'll have weapons when you need them"
11 Nov 2021, 9:00pm
"Got it!.. First mate, hah", I even.. smiled a bit, looking at rapidly closing T-10. It was still firing wildly at me, causing shield indicator to flash, but, at such speeds it was... just teasing me. Shields were far above the half.

Zooming past the slow, hulking T-10, I rolled at ninety degrees and pulled the stick, squeezing all remaining strength from my wounded right arm. Ah, bless the painkillers! No senses - no feeling of g-forces, hah. I was, like, floating in an unreal, parallel dimension. That abomination at the T-10 controls noticed my manoeuvre in a moment, however, you may have ungodly fast reaction, but if your ship is so slow... You're going to taste this.

And I pulled both triggers, sending an avalanche of multi-barrelled cannon projectiles and a blindingly bright plasma charge towards the enemy. Its shields flashed with dozens of blue lights, and then plasma bolt turned into a little supernova. No escape now, I'm in my element. Turrets were still firing, however, they posed no danger, as my shields were recharging at almost the same rate.

Hiding behind another asteroid, I've stopped abruptly and waited. Hah, I doubt this thing can see me through thick ice. Then... I boosted to the same side I've came from and locked on the T-10 again. Expectedly, it was waiting for me... Watching the other side of asteroid. Got you, glowing piece of crap!

Another barrage leaved the T-10 completely shieldless and I targeted the power plant. My unwieldy rival was still turning around and moving backwards, trying to catch me in the aiming reticle... When I pulled the stick again to reach the position above the enemy. Rolling and turning, moving by pure inertia, I pulled the triggers once more. Cannon rounds started to rip twisted, jagged pieces of metal off the upper side of my clumsy opponent's hull. Ridiculously floating in attempts to avoid the damage, the T-10 almost made me laugh. At least brought a vicious grin on my face. Another plasma charge left a giant hole, exploding almost inside the ship, and I saw that familiar blue glow and.. those tentacles again. The beast.. Tried to cover and regenerate the ship? Hah. It was in vain. One more plasma charge at the target, and the T-10 started to float not only in its own half-melted chunks of hull, but also in greenish cloud of what its improvised pilot had for blood.

Armour was opened like a tin can, and power plant was exposed. Four highly-engineered multicannons played the last chord in the song of its demise, and hellish flurry of kinetic ordnance bombarded the heart of hostile ship, ripping it apart. Instantly, the flow of superheated matter has melted the internal equipment and bulkheads, shattered the cockpit canopy, split the hull in half. Nothing can withstand that temperature. So, my next plasma shot was a mockery. Finally, the fuel tanks exploded and the T-10 disappeared in the giant ball of fire. Did I hear this beast screaming even in a vacuum? Hah. Liked it.

"How do you like that, you little shit?"

She enjoyed killing too much, but given what Creamy had just experienced, he wasn’t going to judge and he was glad the thing was less than ash. After watching the ship disintegrate and burn up in a short-lived fireball, Creamy paused for a moment to let Meowers enjoy her moment.

“Mrs Muir, would you give me the stick so you can go get medical attention?” asked Creamy softly as he could in his deep voice. “Once I’ve jumped us back and forth, I’ll head to an empty system, and come help you out. Agreed?”
11 Nov 2021, 10:05pm
"Yup..Thank you", I said, rerouting controls to the co-pilot sticks. "Jump us randomly a few times and then plot the route to something inhabited.. So I'll retake the controls and then may drop you off at any station of your choice. And... Don't worry about me. I'd seen better days, but also seen worse. So.. I'll get some bandages, less agressive painkillers, my..um..usual everyday meds and some coffee. So, I'm not going to collapse..Maybe, hah. You're free to raid the food locker as well. I guess you don't mind having some warm coffee."

Yeah, the emergency painkillers were wearing off, and I felt the pain returning.. Thankfully, legs were relatively okay, I was able to move them and even walk to the cabin, not float around like a useless bag.

And, slowly and carefully walking to the cockpit door, I've turned around and asked...

"Am I... forgiven?"
12 Nov 2021, 9:55am
Creamy raised an eyebrow and looked over his shoulder.

"We'll discuss that when you're not bonzed on painkillers, attend to your self for now. Marshmallow is in good hands"

After all that had just happened, Creamy wanted some time to himself. He could feel the trembling getting stronger now they were out of danger. A few random jumps and the hunt for an unoccupied system would give Creamy plenty of time to calm down before helping Meowers with some basic first aid and chatter.
12 Nov 2021, 11:01am
Wounds weren't that bad, but... Still quite deep and painful. Armour suit was, uh, almost red. Blood of that guy on the outside, and.. mine inside. Yeah, some.. blood loss. Explains the dizziness... Had to detach the damaged armour plates first.

Argh!.. Shit.. That's.. Awful. A piece of metal, from..one of the damaged plates, with those..jagged edges, was just sticking out of my right leg. Shit.. Antiseptic.. Damn, it's zero gravity, can't just pour it.. Okay, let's use the towel..

Ffff.. Argh! Crapcrapcrap...

It hurts, damn it.. That new dose of painkillers, usual ones, not the heavy emergency shit.. Still far from their full effect, but, uh.. No time to wait. Removing the wrecked suit parts could open the wounds again.. Ahhhh fff... Yup. That one in the stomach. Thankfully, not that deep to..mess up my internals. But.. Yeah, air here is full of blood drops now... Ahhh, I'll hate cleaning up the place.

And that last electric hit, just a bad burn... More antiseptic and it will be fine. Eventually. Hah.. Folks at Komotae Medical will completely love me... Ha.. hahaha... Aaah, crap, that's certainly some weird laugh... Sitting here in underwear, with blood drops floating everywhere, wrecked metal plates.. Aaaahahaha.. What a crazy moment.

Damn, I'm so messed up, to be honest..

Ow, really, have to clean up my face too! Almost forgot, hah.

With that adrenaline boost wearing off as well.. Uh.. Super slow. Super clumsy. And.. Jumping sequences just had stopped. Looks like we were adrift now. So... Bandages, meds, and that old baggy suit, free and comfy.. And I'll be good to go.

I'll be fine. Had seen darker days...
12 Nov 2021, 12:57pm
“I see” remarked Creamy from the door wafting a few blood drops away.

First, he activated the waste extractor and spent a little time flapping a towel around, pushing the floating particulates towards the filter.

Clean up was important, and Creamy removed his gloves to wash his hands before setting to work on Meowers. While sympathetic to her protestations, she was weightless while Creamy had mag-boots, and she was not really fit enough to stop him anyway. He cleaned all the wounds and gently doused the open ones with antiseptic.

Removing shrapnel was way beyond his very basic training, and he did as the training advised, leaving them where they were. Packing dressing around the intruding debris, Creamy bandaged them very well. She was clean, wounds dressed, and her burns had been protected and covered. He let her float for a little while as he changed the bedding and covering her as best he could without putting pressure on the shrapnel.

“There you are Mrs Muir, all done. Now, if you don’t stay in bed I’ll tie you down don’cha know?” said Creamy with a friendly voice, but serious and firm face.

“You may place your order for food and drink with our courteous and efficient staff” He bowed playfully “and then I shall take us to the nearest medical facility, unless you have cover with a particular health care provider?”

Crap! Crap! Where was my fff... goddamn fff... brain when I was rerouting the controls to this man? To a man? Where was my goddamn brain when I left my personal cabin unlocked? Ah, okay, the first aid, but I was trained to do that... And I was doing that during..not the most pleasant years of my life. Had to patch myself...Ugh. Ffff... Hate it. So hate it! How much that crap will happen before I learn stuff? First, those Delaine's suckers, now that! Never. Trust. A. Man. Goddammit! No matter now friendly he looks. Now I'm pinned down to the wall, wounded, weakened, unarmed, against a man who wants to take control of my ship and tie me to the bed. Different faces, same scenario. FFff... Hate it, hate, hate! Ugh... Stop, stop, let's think serious... Marshmallow never let me down, she's my soulmate...In fact, I'd left her down several times, and she still forgives me..sorry...This will never happen again...

Crap! Why I'm so stupid!

Ah, okay, he did that first aid stuff.. But, how can I be sure that it was..not an another attempt to make me drop my guard. And then he will do anything he wants with me. As..he's already trying to limit my movements.

Never trust a man, no matter how friendly he looks. It all started a millenia and a half ago. First, they open the doors before you, then they see you weak and inferior, untermensch. They will spit on your dignity, your will, your property, they will always try to make things go their own way.

"Sure! Thank you... I doubt Komotae Mental Health Centre deal with..gunshot wounds, so..Let it be..Any independent system with..a large starport. You know..Marshmallow is marked hostile..by the Big Three. So.. they will try to kill us. And..I'll stay here... Just.. A coffee and a pack..No, two packs of meat jerky..And..I'll be fine."

At least this cabin has a computer console..

And I hate when my life goes out of my control.
13 Nov 2021, 6:26pm
“Hah yes, didn’t think of that” mused Creamy probing a bite on his cheek with his tong. “Alright, the nearest independent station it is”

Washing his hands again, Creamy gave the last bit of first aid knowledge he had to Meowers.

“Eating probably isn’t a good idea, but a drink can’t hurt. Use the straw, and try not to move around. That thing won’t stop bleeding..” He said pointing to Meowers stomach. “..and you’ll only make it worse if you move about”

After drying his hands, Creamy paused at the door.

“I’ll drop off the coffee and get you to a hospital ASAP. Enjoy the flight, you're about to sample Saud Kruger approved piloting” With a wink, Creamy left.

After dropping off a few of the nasty self-heating containers of brown liquid Meowers had in storage, Creamy got himself a water and consulted the nav computer. Aucharnie in HIP 90621 was the closet place that wouldn’t get them shot if patrol ships scanned the Marshmallow. It was only about six jumps away.
13 Nov 2021, 8:26pm
Nobody can say 'I'll tie you down' to me, take control of Marshmallow, and get away with it. Just nobody. It can't be tolerated.

When I heard my former companion's steps... Ah...fff...I just hate those moments, you know? First, they make you trust them. Then, they use you, take over your ship, everything, when you're weakened, injured, powerless to do anything to resist. And sometimes they make it look like a 'favour', so you will also blame yourself for any resistance. Just.. Just imagine that messed up crap! You're being used, you do the dirty work, and then they rip you off, when you're unable to stop it. But if you do, they will make you guilty in addition! Crap..I hate it, I just... Uncontrollably hate it.

So, when I heard his steps and then the navcomputer bleeps... Hah... You're not going anywhere on that ship! Making sure that he's far away enough, I've carefully floated to the door and locked it. With an administrator-level password known only to me. Then that computer console..Come on, boot up... I don't want to do it in hyperspace... I may be not fit for a real fight, being already wounded, but I won't give up that easy..Hah. My ancestors are smiling at me... Ah, let's go. Let's do it now. Administrator access. Ship management. Controls. Pilot seat. Turn off. Co-pilot seat. Turn off. Cockpit tech consoles. Turn off. Yeah! Hah, in your face... Now we're just drifting in the vacuum... And I'm safe here, in that locked cabin.

Then I took a bit of time to inspect a wound on my stomach, removing the bandage..Ugh... Looks nasty, area is wide enough.. But my internals are okay, it's just an..external bleeding, a big scratch, to be honest. Thankfully, I have first aid training as well, and can tell what's really dangerous and what's not..did he actually tried to trick me, telling that I'm critical? To make me..calm and docile? So, the wound..Painfully looking, and definitely painful without any medication, but... Not as dangerous as you may think. Right leg is badly hurt, and left shoulder maybe too, I still have certain troubles with movements..Hah, it's an awesome moment to 'help' me, ripping me off in the process and throwing those 'friendly-looking threats', really...

After bandaging the wound again, I've activated the comms on my helmet..Hah, blood-covered helmet... And linked the comms to the onboard announcement system.

"Good day, passengers!..This is your..captain speaking..commander Ina Muir. Welcome onboard..the Marshmallow. See, saying 'I'll tie you down'..and taking over the..controls is prohibited. Six people..already gave up their..lives, trying to do it. So..you're not..going anywhere on..my ship."
13 Nov 2021, 9:03pm
Creamy was absolutely gob-smacked, and didn't know what to say for a long moment. He activated the intercom.

"Is this drugs talking, or are you really planning on taking me hostage for applying first aid?"

Silence greeted his inquiry.

"I mean, as you know I've been kidnapped a few times before, but really I'm too tied to get abducted right now"

More Science.

"Oh, what's more, I did ask your permission to fly us away from my ship, which I did to your satisfaction while you attended to your fight wiry and, injured self" He paused for a moment "You also didn't indicate there was any problem in allowing me to pop us along to a safe station merely moments ago.. .."

".. .. .. and I love doing the captains' announcements. ... .. " he complained a with a bit of a sulky tone in his voice.

"Any way, if you're going to be mean spirited again, I'll just take this here escape pod and a few extra tanks of breathable if it's all the same to you? I've had quite enough life-threatening events today without getting into a fraccar with someone I imagined had become a friend. I mean, there was an honest to goodness monster we vanquished.. . .Well, mostly you. Never mind, just let the S'n'R know where I got off, alright? Chin chin"

Creamy stood up, grabbed his COVAS and opened another bottle of water. He better get some drinks down him now, he could be in the pod for a long time. Would it be odd to use the bathroom before he escaped, he wondered.

"Drugs? What..drugs? I'm taking meds to..uh.. Don't think about bad..stuff. And I have a..proper prescription..from Komotae MH staff.. Actually..wanted to give you..a part of..these when you was looking..like you're in a hell of..fear. Nice acting..to make me..sympathetic to you. And I'm on painkillers now..to prevent feeling..bad stuff from my goddamn..five wounds that I got..only to do your..things."

The rest of the answer was already formed in my mind.

"Had you tried..to trick me..about wound severity?.. To make me..docile? I have a..first aid training too. My..stomach wound isn't..so severe. There's nothing..that punched through..my victorious belly. It's.. a scratch. Nasty scratch..but not critical. And..true friends don't throw..threats about tying you..to the bed to take..over the ship controls. I was in..no condition to..resist openly..to say..'no'. So I've said..that to make you..leave the cabin..that I carelessly..let open..so I could reach the..console and set that..lockdown."

Crap.. Those talks are.. Really leaving me without having enough air to speak without.. Those pauses..

Double crap.. I'm really messed up. But I'll be okay, had seen worse... And that 'escape pod' idea was genuinely awesome.

"And..that pod idea.. Thank you.. It's good, actually... See..saying those words..you lost any little bits..of my trust..you had before. And the pod..is the single thing on the ship..that have any indication about..people inside. That 'occupied/unoccupied' status. And..you have to trust me..as Marshmallow is my..ship. I make..the rules here. So..I'm not going to..launch the pod. I..promise. I'll just..make my way to..the cockpit and take..the controls.. Without you on my..way and without..your reluctance to see..me moving and resisting..you. And your..wish to make things..go your own way. As soon as..I reach the pilot seat..I'll let you out..And you can take place..at the second seat. And buckle up..so I'll be sure that you won't..leave it without..making any sound..and won't do anything..to me and Marshmallow. Then we reach..the closest Independent station..And I'll let you out..To never see..you and your..manipulations again."
