*Short and to the point...* Luke thought to himself.

It wasn't a long trip from Maias main star to Obsidian Orbital, but it was a busy one. Particularly since the Superpowers started sending ships to the Nebula to claim the Barnacle sites for themselves. As a result, the scanner was filled up with various dots and squares and Luke didn't spot the one lining up behind them.

*Whoompff!!!!*

They were jerked forward as a vessel targeted them with an interdictor, destabilising the space around them. Instinctively he followed the end of the blue tunnel that filled the cockpit. He strained and fought against the other pilot trying to break loose from the tether, the blue bar on the right of the HUD filling and rising in exact opposite to the Red bar on the left. Neither pilot giving the other any quarter.

"C'mon... C'mon.... Just... Give.... Up..." Luke grunted through gritted teeth.
07 Jun 2017, 10:05pm
Her lamentations were cut quickly as she felt the ship give a might suddenly shudder under her. She looked up and saw that it was wildly moving about. It was almost a surreal experience. She was unable to even describe the sound. She saw Luke struggling with the controls. She was buffeted again in her seat

"What" What is going on?" she heard herself cry out. Her hands were gripping the seat and she felt them strain.
07 Jun 2017, 10:49pm
"Interdiction..." Luke said, "Someone wants a chat..."

He was still wrestling against the controls, the Red bar slowly creeping up despite his best efforts. As it approached the three quarter mark, signalling imminent defeat, he switched tactics, pulling the throttle down but keeping the tunnel centered to avoid a forceful removal from Supercruise.

"Not much choice I'm afraid, it's either this or spin madly out of control and wait for the FSD to reboot..." He said flatly, knowing Mhera would be concerned.
08 Jun 2017, 3:02pm
Mhera gasped, as she felt the force of the ship slip around here. She had to strain to hear Luke over the din of noise from the tether, and the rattling of the ship. There was great pop as Luke submitted. She shook her head trying to clear out the feeling of disorientation.

Moments later, there were three pops and she saw the starburst of after burners. Two of them whizzed by, while the third flipped overhead to face them. It's running lights turned on, flooding the cockpit with bright white light, blinding her.

"Luke?" her voice trembled with fear.

She heard the Beagle's VI announce "Incoming Transmission."
08 Jun 2017, 3:19pm
"We'll be fine..." Luke said confidently. "They'll see there's nothing of value on board and be on their way."

Admittedly he was only half sure of himself, but he'd been through several pirate interdictions already to know how these things usually went down. The FSD cooldown was nearly completed too, so given the chance, he'd be able to run. Instinctively he targetted a nearby system to jump to as the Comms Panel alerted him to the incoming transmission.

"Let's see what they want then." He said as he jabbed the button to open Comms.

"Hi... Can I help you?" It was all he could think to say.
08 Jun 2017, 6:21pm
Mhera took a deep breath, but she was wringing her hands. Swallowing hard, she nodded to Luke.

The lead ship kept its forward lamps shining on the Beagle

A jovial, yet deep voice came over the coms.

"Well Howdy pard'ners....Seems to me your all in a fryin' pan. Best you power that ship down, else ya end up in the fire." there was a chuckle, I'll give ya to the count of 8."
08 Jun 2017, 7:08pm
"I'd rather not, but if you scan the ship you can see clearly the weapons are disabled." Luke retorted. "I happen to like breathing, so complete shutdown is a no-go."

He took a breath to remain confident.

"So how about you just do your cargo scan, see there's nothing here, and sod-off?"
12 Jun 2017, 3:27pm
There was a loud booming guffaw over the comms, and Mhera winced. The raspy voice continued.

"You here that boys? He sure told us..." there was more laughing. "Tell ya what. You have 5 seconds to power that ship down and you'll be nice and safe, or we'll see to it, your corpse is dammed to the void." There was a pause. "So what'll it be?" he started humming a countdown diddy to a popular game show.
12 Jun 2017, 7:30pm
*Where's my FDL when I need it...?* Luke thought, grinding his teeth, a scowl on his face.

"I'm really starting to get the feeling you're not interested in cargo" He said out loud, turning to the systems panel he shut down the various modules, leaving only Life Support and Sensors active.

He wasn't happy with the situation, much less so that Mhera had been dragged along too. She didn't deserve this at all. Hoping she'd get the message, Luke stretched his hand out to his side, putting it in clear view of his passenger, and circled his thumb and first finger, the universal sign for 'OK'.

The whole situation infuriated him and he toyed with the idea of fighting back when these 'pirates' inevitably boarded the ship, concluding that would only serve to get Mhera hurt or killed. Himself too, of course.
13 Jun 2017, 5:49pm
Mhera gave Luke a quizzical look. She had absolutely no idea what he was trying to communicate. Things were not O.K. When the lights went off she gasped and pressed an indicator on her Remlock. The helmet whooshed over he head.

"Luke..." she asked quietly.

Through the canopy, a Viper approached the Beagle. The pilot swung the ship around aligning itself to be parallel. Another Viper kept strafed along the other side while the Python hovered into view. The comm clicked over again.

"Well, he ain't a dumb one. I want you and your crew to move into the cargo bay. Don't worry, we ain' gunna flush ya, unless you do somethin' stoooopid.

Mhera looked back at Luke with frightened eyes. "In my quarters, there is a pistol. I...never really used it.." she gulped "outside a target range that one time, but Father insisted that I take it along."
13 Jun 2017, 11:37pm
"My crew?? How many of me do you think there are??" Luke said in genuine confusion. Diamondbacks were single seater ships usually, piloted and operated by one person alone. It's what made them so popular amongst long range explorers.

Awaiting a response he muted his external comms so only Mhera could hear him.

"Grab it, but hide it. I've got one too... In my bag. I'd just rather know what it is they want. The more peacefully we can settle this, the better for everyone." He mused, "They don't exactly seem the sort to need science equipment anyway."
14 Jun 2017, 2:56pm
There was a booming laugh over the comms again. The strafing Viper flashed its external lights.

"Is that so lad? Then why does my associate inform me that there are two people moving about in that cockpit, eh?"

Suddenly there was a clanging noise along the hull as magnetic boots stomped along the exterior. Mhera made a small noise, unable to speak and took Luke's hand with her very own rattling one.
14 Jun 2017, 5:17pm
Clicking his mic back on before taking Mheras hand, gripping it tight, while he lead them through to the back of the ship. Shutting access to the cockpit behind them.

"Just a simple observation that crew usually refers to several people. Not two..." He responded with a nervous smile, clicking his external mic off again as a precaution.

As they reached the quarters of the ship, he clicked open the door to his room. Revealing it to be pretty devoid of living besides the bag in the corner with some clothing sticking out of the pockets. Opening a side pocket he retrieved a small energy pistol and checked it before powering it up.

"Still feel like grabbing your own or will we just go quietly?" He said to Mhera, a slight croak betraying his otherwise confident voice. He was no stranger to gunfights as such, competing in various Zero-G Paintballing tournaments prior to, and occasionally alongside his piloting career. Although those were considerably less lethal.

*Still, the premise is the same, right? Shoot the other guy before he shoots you...*
14 Jun 2017, 5:45pm
Mhera swallowed her tongue and nodded. The sound of heavy footfalls overhead added to her unease. She darted into her darkened room. In nervous fit she yanked open a few drawers tossing the contents out onto the floor. Finally, she found the projectile weapon her father had given her. In her shaking hands she held the nozzle down.

"D-do you think it would be easier to make a stand in a smaller space?"
14 Jun 2017, 6:13pm
Following Mhera, Luke shut his room door behind him and stood outside as she threw the contents of her room around. He turned at the sound of her voice.

"Uhh... I'm better at longer range to be honest, but we ain't going to be afforded the chance to be picky." He grumped, looking down at her tight grip on the gun.

Looking up into her eyes it was clear to see she was frightened. He wanted so badly to say a hundred things. To calm her nerves, to reassure her.
*If things go south, save yourself.*
*I won't let anything happen to you.*
*I'm sorry. I just wanted to impress you.*
All that corny shit...

Instead all he said was, "You made sure that thing's loaded?"
