Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

'I don't know about letting him know we want to meet. I mean he DID put a hit on us. It's very likely he knows who we are.'

Silvia sets her cup down and reaches up pinching the bridge of her nose. She thinks for a moment before releasing her nose and waving her hand around.

'What if we have ourselves a little fake out. Venus had a Krait Mk2 she left in storage we could trick him into thinking the ship is Dina's. Ya know swap the memory cores? Then send a message saying to meet us on the landing pad.'

She stands to her feet and paces around the room. She doesn't want to get civilians injured in this hunt so she is trying to be careful.

'Of course doing that is going to be risky. We'd have to avoid being scanned. If we were caught running a false registration the fine would not be pleasant. I want to do this in a way that will leave innocent bystanders out of the crossfire.'
08 May 2023, 1:39pm
"A'm not saying, we tell him it's us. We oinion the message he'll never even ken it's from us, and we canna pretend to be anybody."

As Silva is explaining her idea, Desdar's face becomes more and more rigid.

"We canna switch the core, but Desdar gonna hate it." O'Donnell grins. "Just remember tha if he knows she's dead and her Krait down, or if ye get scanned, it's the same as calling him to our ships, he'll bring people out for a fight. Whether they ken nor nea, it's guessing time."

Desdar is pretending to drink out of an empty cup. "If you believe it's the best idea we'll go with it." His monotone voice warms quickly "We're not going to involve innocents, Silvia, on my honor.

I'll go fetch some more coffee, can I bring something else?"
08 May 2023, 5:57pm
'No thank you. I'm quite alright at this point. Could go for some food though.'

Silvia furrows her brow and looks to O'Donnell.

'You're right. Ship cloning is just as bad. It was just an idea. Say you have your own ship right O'Donnell? They don't know you. If we use your ship it puts us at the least risk of being discovered.'
08 May 2023, 8:38pm
""Food sounds guid." O'Donnell stands up, passing her cup to Desdar who takes them away.

"Ay I do have a courier, but to be honest to prefer riding shotgun as such ... . I shouldn't mind getting her out for this, though she's a single sea'er. So you suggest I send that, Elias a message to meet me on the pad?"
08 May 2023, 8:58pm
Silvia thinks for a moment.

'Sending a direct message to them might seem suspicious. Maybe just request a crew and say you are coming from 69 G Carinae. ThT might be enough to grab his attention. Then once you have confirmation Des and I will grab them.'

She looks to Desdar as if to see if it's a reasonable enough idea. Silvia pulls out her data pad and looks up the food registrar for the station.

'Here you choose something I'll pay for it. It's the least I can do for you guys helping me out.'
09 May 2023, 11:47am
Desdar nods. "Sounds good. We'll drop you off at Couper, and fly ahead to Citi. What about Jules, will she stay here?"

"Gonna need to get h'r ready then." O'Donnell takes her datapad and starts using it.

"For food, I would enjoy some vol-au-vent." Desdar leaves to put the cups away.
09 May 2023, 4:27pm
Silvia places the order for food and looks to Desdar.

'I'm going to stop by the hospital to check in on Jules and let her know. She may be stubborn enough to want to at least tag along in the ship even if she doesn't do anything.'

She disappears off the ship and heads straight for the hospital wasting no time.
10 May 2023, 4:59pm
In the hospital room Silvia pulls out her datapad and types up a message to O'Donnell and Desdar.

"Hey so you guys can go on ahead without us to Citi Gateway we will meet you there. Doctors said Jules needs to be under observation for 24hrs before they will let her leave. She is persistent on leaving here even if she can't be of much help."

She places her data pad in its protective pouch and leans her head against the chair waiting for the time to pass begot they can be in their way.

"Understood, we'll be going on ahead. Should anything happen we'll let you know, but if things stay calm we'll wait on you before making a move on Elias." Desdar responds to Silvia as he warms up the engines.

Lifting off from pad 02, he guides the ship out of the slot and into the void.
13 May 2023, 8:44pm
Silvia reads the message from Desdar and lays back in the chair. Jules was still in surgery and probably would be for some time. She closes her eyes and falls asleep.

Diaz walks through the destroyed remains of Jules ship and plants charges on the Challenger and Clipper. As he is walking away his foot strikes a solid object. He looks down to see it's the memory core for Jules Imperial Eagle. He reaches down and looks it over before tossing it over to Marquez.

'Well would you look at that. Seems they forgot to grab this one before running away. Marquez! Get this thing to the lab. I need a name!'

The two depart and head inside the port. As Diaz steps through the airlock he detonates the charges. Both ships erupt in a brilliant nova like display. He closes the door and proceeds to Jules old room.
15 May 2023, 7:33pm
The doctors look over Jules new cybernetic prosthetic and give her the ok to leave. Jules let's out a sigh of relief and looks to Silvia.

'Finally. So we heading to Inara now?'

'Ya I haven't heard anything from Desdar. No news is good news though right?'

Silvia has a hint of concern in her voice as she speaks. She pulls out her data pad and types up a quick message to Desdar.

"Hey so Jules just got cleared to leave. We will be on out way to Citi Gateway now. I haven't heard anything from you in a few days I hope all is well. We can meet up in the bar if you'd like that. K well we have some small prep to do then we will be on our way.

-- Silvia"

Jules slides her legs over the side of the bed and slowly lowers herself onto her legs. She stands and shifts her weight from side to side. The doctors had given her a nicer prosthetic similar to her arm which has nerve emulators in it to allow for easier use.

She takes a few steps around the room and looks to Silvia.

'Ok I'm ready let's go.'

With that the two proceed to Silvia's anaconda and head to Citi Gateway.

After the insistence from Seo that I apologize to Willow, I opened up the comms panel, and put her in as the recipient to the message. Then I began typing.

Hi, Willow.

It's Kira.

I expect you probably don't want to hear of me ever again right now, but I think... or thought, an apology is due for what happened about a week ago. I don't really expect you to reply to this, or even receive it, but I want to have sent it anyway, now that I think about it with a clearer head.

I'm sorry that things went bad. I only meant it well when I told you about my... condition. Not to upset you, just let you decide if you were ok with me... being like that. I guess I got my answer to that, one way or another.

Hindsight's a bitch, you know? Keep thinking how I could've done it better. Say something like "That's enough socializing for me for today. Was nice meeting you, Willow.", and leave off on a better note. More time to think things through, less in-the-moment emotions involved.

Anyway, need to go. Hope you're doing fine. No need to answer if you don't want to.

- K

I intentionally left what I was planning to do, and that I'd be back out again, out of the message. My finger hovered over the send button for a few seconds, hesitant. I pushed the reluctance and unease away just enough to hit it, then closed the panel and started up the thrusters. The Far God was waiting, and I didn't intend to be late.

Shortly after breaching the defensive perimeter

There it was - Taranis. First of the Titans to enter human space, and set off an onslaught of unprecedented levels. And now I was here, in person, observing it, keeping my distance from the fighting near the ship.

I could feel the same call that I had months ago, when it first arrived. Drawing me to it, even if I was far off in the galaxy. Being here, directly, it was a much stronger connection.

But I still knew it was not a call directed at me specifically. It seemed to guide the Thargoids around it, whether they were departing to a different system, or defending it against futile attempts of assault.

Nor was I welcome. Even with my connection, I knew the Thargoids would destroy any human ship present, and my own would be no exception. Especially if I approached too closely.

I felt tempted to try opening up further and reach out - if my implant even allowed such control from me - but hesistated. Recalling what happened, even from being exposed to it from a distance, had made me wary.

I didn’t want to experience the effects this entity would have on my mind this close to it, if I dropped my mental barriers. I chose not to, despite the insights it might provide, and turned the ship away.

“Another time, Kira.”, I said to myself, heading out.

I could still contribute to the effort otherwise, and I wanted to observe the drones in former human-controlled systems for myself. Taking a contract to recover data or a valuable item from an abandoned ground site would allow both, without causing further casualties on either side.

'Boss I got a name for ye. Desdar Elrius. Seems to be a bounty hunter of sorts.'

Diaz looks up from his console and grins.

'Good! Maybe he'll enjoy this bounty. Adjust Jules' records. It's time for some games.'

Vasquez nods in agreement and pulls up the bounty database and falsifies Jules' bounty sheet. He looks back to Diaz to let him know the records are adjusted. Diaz smile and pulls up his messaging console. He types up a message to Desdar.

"Desdar Elrius, I hear you like to take bounties. Well how about this one. Julia Cavanaugh 20mil Cr bounty for murder, kidnapping, slave smuggling, and espionage. You see she is a quite good at playing the damsel in distress but don't let her fool you. She will turn on you the moment the pay is good enough. Return her to me ALIVE and you will be rewarded more than adequately. How does 50mil sound? Tell me where to meet and we can arrange an exchange. Don't let her know your next move or you will surely regret it.

---
Marcus Diaz."

Continued from The Docks

He was singing. Of course, he was fuckin singing and Vodan pretty much had to listen to it. He did his best to listen to Meowers last message instead, she was pissed at him understandably. He didn't want to get overly pushy with her, because she was the type to push back.

He was thinking of explaining that to her, but now Creamy had started his message to Vengerfield, he couldn't risk contacting her. Anyway, once he was back in command of his carrier, Meowers could spin too.

As if she knew what he was thinking, she sent a message to Creamys personal computer.

"You got my tastes right! I'll keep the open channel activated in order to hear it when you're in the system, and it will be a sign for me to ramp up the gutting. Departing now. Do your things, and jump no earlier than 15 minutes after me, in order to maintain our disguise."

All he could do was wait for the ok to jump, or run when he had to. He hoped that he wouldn't be too early, It looked like Meowers was psychic.
