Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

I watched as the two of them walked off, then looked at Meowers.

“Let’s just leave these two to themselves. I’ve got a private space up there.” My right hand moved up to point toward the ready quarters of the bridge. “If you want to chat while we wait for this ship to jump.”

I looked at the not-quite-white furball on my lap, which prompted me to place both hands on my hips.

“You are really going to need a wash.”

The only response I received was what could best be described as an annoyed sound, at which I shook my head.

“You’re just like a cat. Also, I need to stand up, if you don’t mind. Stay here with them or come up with us, your choice.”

Melli did hop off my lap, where a stain was left behind on the otherwise black suit.

“And I was hoping I’d get away without any blood on this.” I looked at Meowers again. “So, want to go up?”
10 Sep 2023, 9:28pm
"Yeah... Lead the way", I nodded, getting up from the seat. "I guess we're all going to need a wash. Can't wait, honestly."

Thoughts of relaxing in a tub flooded my mind for a second and I stood silent, staring blankly. If I'm to stay at Citi for one more day, I might as well spend a large portion of it this way.

"Going to rent a cabin at Citi and wash away all... this", I let my thoughts out, motioning vaguely, but obviously talking about recent events. "You won't find a lazier person in the whole Galaxy tomorrow."
10 Sep 2023, 9:40pm
“I’m not really sure what I’ll do yet. You might… probably will, find me in the bar. Until I go, anyway. Whenever I do. Then… well, chances are I’ll be groundside a few months, doing… things.”

I wasn’t really sure what those ‘things’ were going to be yet, but I was definitely thinking about returning to Aegis for a while, after investigating the barnacle matrix sites, and not have to worry about the risk I was exposing myself to, being in public like this, or investigating the Thargoids.

“Anyway, let’s go.”

I led Meowers to the elevator and motioned at the guard to let her pass. A few seconds after, we were in the ready room, where I sealed the door, and moved one of the seats - the one I planned to sit in - to face the window, then sat down.

“Here we are. I don’t think this place has a tea or coffee machine, though, I’m afraid.”
11 Sep 2023, 12:14am
"Ah, no worries," I replied casually, pushing another seat next to Kasumi's to join her window watching. "I'm going to have tonnes of that on Inara."

"And, well... What will I do next? Depends. Will spend a few days washing, eating, regenerating my energy and going through Diaz's data, much likely. Besides teaching new folks how to shoot. I doubt I'm needed elsewhere, otherwise... I'd knew about it already. Something big is going to happen and we better be prepared..."

I sighed. The persistent looming threat and other funny existential things were the least I wanted to talk about now: since they were persistent. Unlikely to change. Almost ever-present. One could talk about them at any moment, and, that means, any moment was also better for talking about literally anything else. I stretched a little in the seat and turned my gaze to the window. Scarce sparks, flickers and ripples over the starscape told that the hyperspace tunnel will open soon.

"So, I guess, I will find you in the bar soon. And, you know what?..."

I've made a pause, composing my next sentence. Thoughts are always prettier when they're still inside your head, and I wasn't known for translating them into words in the best way possible.

"I guess we totally deserved a few moments of relaxed stargazing. Simply... Looking at them. Without any plans, routes, to-do-lists and other kinds of rush. They're around for billions of years... And it's strange how sometimes it's hard to find a single moment to just look at them."
11 Sep 2023, 12:52am
"I mean, we did just survive what most people would've told us is a suicide mission. So I guess yeah, we do. But the worst part is, it wasn't even my first one."

I chuckled at the idea that I'd done this kind of thing before, more than once.

"Pf. Shows how much I've done in my life. I mean, I don't remember much, or not many details at least. Mostly just things from a few old logs I wrote down... four, five years ago, of my life before taking to flying ships. And a few of the... stronger ones. Memories, I mean. Hardly enough to form a full picture, just a basic overview of who I was. Doesn't look like I got very far, other than becoming a weird hybrid thing that doesn't know what to do with itself."

I sighed, in a good way, while leaning back, and put one of my legs above the other. The carrier transitioned into hyperspace. I used to feel comfort in it, but now, I was sometimes at unease, knowing how proficient the Thargoids were at navigating, and probably living in, it. Even though this was effectively closing the current chapter, I didn't look forward to it much. The new one was bound to be worse.

"You know, about all that... bad stuff happening. Or something big coming. I've felt that way for a few months, even without, you know, them in my head. But everyone seems convinced the Thargoids aren't just playing a different game than trying to conquer our space, and that we have the upper hand. Or almost everyone. But I don't need to have the brain of a genius to tell that this is nowhere near what they could throw at us if they wanted."

I took a deep breath.

"I guess... that's why I'm thinking about going back to Aegis for... well, I don't know how long. A few months, maybe. And to not have to worry about those Azimuth idiots trying to search every corner of the galaxy for me. So I saved a friend from them, only for her to disappear because of those asshats. What good does that do anyone?"

The frustration in my voice was evident and, strangely, made my Japanese accent shine through more than usual. I looked out of the window, where a star slowly appeared as the carrier exited Witch Space. I looked at Meowers a little more directly.

"While we're still on our own... I think you should know. I was not in any way in control of those Thargoids. I more just hoped they'd listen to... whatever they hear of my thoughts. Not even sure what they do. I'm certainly nowhere close to any kind of translator role."

Sighed again.

"Anyway, want to go onboard?" I quickly added to the question, not finding it clear enough in my head. "The station, that is."

"I knew we were balancing over the abyss... One detail more, one detail less," I shrugged, "Another suicide mission that we've survived somehow. But, yeah. Thank you for what you've done."

"And I totally want to get back to the station. Meals, drinks, bath, all that stuff. Need to get back to my human form. To, well... You know. Make this brain switch into 'we're not there anymore' mode. Also... I guess I'd send a message to Willow to make her sure we're still alive."
12 Sep 2023, 10:46am
“Yeah, I guess that’s a good idea. I was just, I don’t know, keeping it as a ‘surprise’ if, or I guess when, we meet her in there somewhere.”

I got up out of the seat.

“I’ll just throw something her way when I’m out of this suit and it’s going through a decontamination cycle. Might tell the ship to wash it too.”

I put my nose up to my right shoulder pit, and sniffed in theatrical manner.

“Think I’ll also wash my clothes. And take a shower.”

*A long range signal beacon broadcasts an emergency message from beagle point.*

This...... Commander..... Sh..rpe... Engines fried... fuel... oop offline....... running low on materials...... Rep.... not possible..... AFMU inoper....... help required.....*static*

A routine jump into the abyss had taken a turn for the worse when Longshot suffered a catastrophic engine failure. I sit staring at the emergency panel, Venus at my side. Melli is at on the console in front of me looking out at the yellow star.

'48hrs... that's all we have left. It has been a wonderful story Venus.'

'Let's enjoy our last moments together. All we can do is wait.'

Venus and I walk out of the cockpit and through the ship our photos and adventures framed on the walls. Dirt, debris, and wear all prominent from our many years of travel and excitement. Our time is short and our only hope is someone is nearby to assist. The likelihood of rescue is near zero but we have made peace with it. I grasp Venus tightly before taking a seat on the bed. Melli runs in, the light tapping of her little mag boots as she makes her way to her spot.

'All we can do is wait.'

'June, please keep a record of these final moments. I want our friends and family to know what happened in the event we do not survive.'

"Silvia... I do not wish to lose you too. Is there nothing we can do?"

'You're the AI you tell us.'

"I have run the simulation thousands of times and there is only a small chance you can repair the main assembly."

'Exactly, which is why we cannot even risk trying. The window for success is too small to try. All we can do is wait.'

I lay down on the bed and Venus follows suit. With the press of a button the lights in the captains quarters shut off casting everything in complete darkness. All we could do was hope. If no one arrived we would surely die. It was an awful way to go but one that befalls explorers all to often. We had decided to accept our fate and let time reveal the answers.

OOC: For more backstory info, read this log:Log 6.10.3309

Time: Right after end of log recording, 6.10.3309

The first logical thing, which is on list when somebody has lost, is to contact help. I sent message to Fleet Carrier, which brought me to the Beagle Point as the first one, other 8 carriers following.

The second thing is get to the center of system and check Full Spectrum Scanner for possible contacts. Nothing abnormal. I said to myself: "Hmm, I should pick up at least position of that beacon if not the ship. I wonder how much time she has." Then I get idea: "I have requested help, but I didn't reply on that distress signal. So I begun composing message, when I spotted something approaching to me on collision curse not so slow. I did bold manuever, and after that, I wiped my wet forehead.

But I managed to throw my glasses off somewhere in space of cockpit. "This is what I've been missing!" I muttered agrily, then heavy cursing followed. I quick left seat and searched for them whole cockpit. Luckily, they were not so far, I picked them and put them on.

I get back to the seat and finished message:
CMDR Adam Štefánik speaking. Don't worry, CMDR Sharpe, rescue is coming. I alerted everybody in system, but I can't find your coordinations. Can you please send them if possible? Simple, straightforward, as possible. I hit 'Send' button, hoping for fast response. I again opened FSS, but still nothing extraordinary. "Damn, let's hope that her answer would be fast or not corrupted"

"Silvia there is a message attempt coming in from an unknown source."

'Try and patch it through June.'

"OK. Hold a moment please."

The air hangs heavy as June attempts to divert power to the communications system without shutting off necessary life support systems. The intercom begins to buzz. The message is garbled and hard to decipher. A small hum begins to turn into a louder more present roar as the powerplant struggles to maintain a steady supply of power to comms. Suddenly the ship goes silent, the lights dim to black and Junes blue glow acts as the only light source in the cockpit.

"Oh shoot! Give me a moment Silvia. It seems the extra draw of the communications relay was too much for the powerplant in its current weakened state. I will attempt to get life support back online. Please go down to the engineering bay and see if you can reset the main breaker."

'On it. Silvia in the mean time please try to get our broadcast beacon online.'

Venus darts out of the cockpit and heads to the engineering bay. I fumble around in the dark for a few moments before remembering my helmet had a built in flashlight. I tap the side of the helmet and find the beacons control panel. Venus had retrofitted the ship to have a separate power unit for the beacon in the event something like this should happen. I brush away the dust and cobwebs and follow the well laid out instructions for the power supply.

The system was old like I'm talking old earth old, had to have been something from the 21st century. With a few button presses and the satisfying clunk of a small blade switch the emergency beacon activates broadcasting our location to everyone in system.

Our location was somewhere near .15ly from the K class yellow orange star, and increasing. The FSD explosion had caused us to continue drifting at near supercruise speeds for the last several hours. The lack of thruster capability meant no chance of slowing down. We were drifting at the mercy of the universe.

Venus reached the powerplant and went through the reboot procedure and just as our life support was nearing 1minute the ships life support systems returned to life. The panel sparked and flashed as the power surged through the damaged reactor. Venus shielded her eyes from the intense arc flash. Her suits thermal layer absorbing the majority of the heat, became scorched. She returns to the cockpit brushing off some of the smoldering particles of the outer layer and smiles at me.

'This ship really does have it out for me.'
07 Oct 2023, 11:01pm
I was sitting in cockpit, in strange balance of anger and concerns about life of only person which could be near status friend, but not yet. I am really antisocial, so this is record for me. Suddenly, on FSS (I had it still opened) poped up bright signal. "What's this?" I said curiously. I targeted signal source. "Oh shit! 0,15 ly away? That's pretty far!" I targeted signal source and quickly closed FSS interface. In thoughts, I said to myself: "No time to waste, let's go live." And I begun to opened comms, system tab: "CMDR Štefánik, ship in distress was located! Current position is 0,15 ly from star, and appears to changing but slowly. Direction from galaxy centre. Repeating. Ship in distress located. 0,15 ly, from star, heading away from galaxy centre. Over"

I turn my attention to my modules. For my surprise, interdictor was fitted. Maybe from bounty hunting trips. "I get to the Hutton, so this won't be harder!" I've said to myself and set throttle to full, with all enegry to the thrusters. I even shut off every module except FSD, thrusters, comms and life support. I knew that Supercruise assist would do it slower than manual control, even with emergency drop from dangerous speed.

After 15 minutes

Halfway to destination, still alone. Probably worst scenario. Nobody who could help. I opened comms and started recording: "Silvia, it is me, Adam Štefánik. I was one of your rescuers in bar. I traveled almost 0,1 ly. Are you on one place? Because it is not looking like that. If yes, then prepare interdiction by 10 minutes. But I have bad news too. I don't have any repair facility aboard. There is big chance of losing your ship. I am sorry for it, but it looks like there is no other way. Over"
08 Oct 2023, 1:52am
There is a crackling sound followed by a loud pop as the emergency power supply erupts into flames, filling the cockpit with smoke and the scent of burnt electronics. Venus rushes over and grabs a fire extinguisher to put the lithium fire out before it has a chance to spread. For a brief moment the sound of garbled speech is heard over comms then cuts out as the beacon and comms system shut down.

'Damn it! We lost the comms again Venus. Looks like our locating beacon has gone offline as well.' The concern in my voice is visible as the glimmer of hope I had just a moment before, begins to vanish.

'Tell me something I don't know.' Venus snaps back as she sprays the lithium fire smothering it.

Melli covers underneath the console in front of me growling at the electrical discharge. In a panic to get the ship broadcasting again I rush out of the cockpit heading towards the engineering bay. June calls over the intercoms as I move through the dark zero g corridors.

"What exactly is your plan? The ship does not have any emergency power remaining for the communications array."

'The plan June, is to shut down everything that doesn't need power. Lights, monitors, sensors, anything that is drawing power. Then I am going to pull the power from the thrusters and main engine assembly. This ship is toast as it is.'

"That will only provide enough power for one additional module. You will have to choose communications array or signal beacon."

'How much life support do we have left?'

"2 minutes 15 seconds."

'What if we don't include Venus and I both utilizing that oxygen and we use our suits?'

"2 minutes 30 seconds. Also I wouldn't open that door in front of you. Sensors indicate a massive hull breach and extremely hazardous conditions."

'Uh what?'

The warning is too late. I open the door and am nearly sucked out into the void as the air in the room rushes out. I quickly activate the door switch sealing off the ship from the breach. A sense of familiarity washes over me as a memory of me casting myself into the void a few months ago rushes through my mind. In a panic I curl into a ball and wrap my arms around my knees burying my face into the tops of my thighs as tears begin to stream down my face.

The memory of my breath being sucked out of my lungs and my body icing over grasps my mind and sucks me back to that moment of desperation. My attempted death replaying over and over in my mind. Suddenly a hand on my shoulder and some muffled words pulls me out of the nightmare playing. I look up a terrified look on my face as Venus kneels in front of me, a caring look on her face.

'Whatever you are seeing right now. It isn't real. You are safe. I am here and so is Melli. Silvia you aren't there anymore.'

The words drift lazily around my head. I struggle to grasp the meaning of them then slowly the world around my begins to melt into one of familiarity. I take a deep shaky breath and relax against the wall. Apparently more than a few seconds had passed as I relived that terrifying moment.

'Come now we need to get the communications array back online.'

'No. We can't bring it up we need to bring the signal beacon online. June said...'

'We could only power one additional system. Yes I know. But if we shut down everything and I mean everything non essential we might have enough room to spare for both of them. But I am going to need your help.'

The ship drifts silently through the void, no beacon, no communications, for any observer or would be rescuer the ship would appear to have just vanished. Or even worse exploded. There is nothing as myself and Venus look over the various systems and subsystems to determine what we don't need operational.

"Shit!" I cursed, when targeted ship dissappeared. "It looks like is it travelling faster than minimal speed of supercruise but not faster than 1c. So Interdictor should work. But it doesn't work when is any target locked.

"Hmm, what to do?" I 've said in my thoughts and then I got idea-recalibrate ship sensors. It might be not-so safe to do, but it is worth risk. Suddenly, my sensors picked up ship on my trail. I checked contacts and it was thanks a god, Hull Seal. After few seconds, in cockpit was heard static noise and then voice transmission: "CMDR Štefánik, this is Hull Seal Alpha 039. I have repair equipment onbard, and some fuel limpets if necessary too. Awaiting order, Over" I was very pleased to hear that message and I replied: Hull Seal Alpha 039, affirmitive. I have in plan try to interdict ship in distress, since it is floating away without thrusters at supercruise speed. But it disappeared from my sensors. Can You see it? Over" Hull Seal replied: I am picking up some signal 3 ls away, but it is very weak. Over" Somwhere deep inside me suddenly light up small light bulb: "Please can you share target lock? I have interdictor, it should work."

Hull Seal shared target lock, but it was very weak-it was blinking. So I tried to engage Interdictor, but first time it failed: "Crap, I need stronger lock!" I left pilot seat and quickly floated to back of Phantom's cockpit, where was fuse box. "I could try to overcharge sensors, but can fail at all." I said over comms to Hull Seal pilot and switched all non-necessary module power into sensors. Even I didn't to try close fuse box doors, and quickly floated back to the seat. Now, signal was stronger, but still weak. "Engaging Interdictor, second try" This time, interdiction was succefull, but my Phantom suffered quite big damage-do interdiction in weak hulled explorer ship is not good idea. I popped out of supercruise, and then appeared damaged ship. Spinning uncontrolably and very fast, damaged so a lot, that is not even recognizable type of the ship. Thirdly, after 10 seconds, Anaconda dropped to our location too, but as only of three it flew controlably right after drop-he probably used my wake. Then transmission can be heard: "CMDR Štefánik, Hull Seal on site. Awaiting orders" I replied: "Now we must find solution how to stop that ship rotating."
08 Oct 2023, 10:45pm
2 ships drop out of supercruise nearby though at our current velocity of nearly .01c they are very quickly left behind. Venus and I are down in the engineering bay trying to work through what we need to cut off.

'June were those ships?'

"Yes. Hmm 2 ships. I was unable to gather any information on them due to our current velocity and the lack of communications systems."

'We need to attempt to slow our velocity to something more reasonable for them to be able to catch up to. Any ideas?'

There is a pause and a brief moment of silence as we all attempt to devise our own plans. When I stupid but potentially viable plan pops into my head.

'June, how much fuel do we have left?'

"About 2 tons. Only enough for a very short burn, if you cam get the thrusters online."

'No need to get them online. I just need to create a blast with enough outward blast to slow the ship.'

'Silvia we are going to need to pull fuel and prep the manual override for the main thrusters. I am going to fire off the main assembly and burn off a ton of fuel or at least try to burn it. We might blow the main assembly up but even that could slow our velocity.'

'And the likelihood we die in a fireball?'

"Probability is 42%. I suggest using auxiliary thrusters instead. It is less likely cause a catastrophic explosion."

'June's right. If we instead fire off the rear auxiliary thrusters we will stand a better chance.'

Venus nods and we head over the the thruster overrides and hook up the auxiliary fuel tank to the main and transfer 1t of fuel over. I pull out the maintenance manual and follow instructions to fire thrusters manually. Overly complicated and confusing instructions were a struggle to understand. Engineers never quite understand how to explain procedures simply. I switched controls from the flight assist system to the engineering bay by turning valves and fuel bypasses even closing down some circuits down.

'OK rear thrusters should be ready to fire. Venus I am going to need you to shut down the life support systems and transfer power to aux thrusters on my say.'

'Yep you got it. Standing by for your word.'

I ready myself and take a deep breath.

'OK now!'

Venus switches power over and there is a brief moment of silence as the auxiliary thrusters power up. Once all the lights are green I press the manual engage button. There is a deafening roar as the 1t of fuel is burned slowing the ship to around 200m/s then silence again as the thrusters use up the fuel.

'Venus switch power back to life support.'

'Got it. Switching power back.'

"Congratulations you two our current velocity is 200m/s should make it easier for our rescuers to reach us."

Now all we could do was hope that who ever was out there would be able to find a way to slow our ship to a complete halt.

When I was thinking about how to slow down that damaged ship, suddenly it something happened with it, because no more it was floating from us at that insane speed. So I diverted all power to engines and hit boost button to catch damaged ship. I said to Hull Seal: "I will try to find out what is it's speed and somehow slow it down, but please try to not lose me from sensor, ok?" Hull Seal answered: "No problem, pedal to the metal" As he ended transimission I was already at almost 600 meters per second, quite quickly approaching damaged ship, which was 25 kilometers from me. It took me about minute to reach it.

When I was close-few hundreds meters, I tried to determine it's speed-slowly slowing down till point where we will have same speed. It worked and I engaged comms: "Hull Seal, speed of damaged ship is around 200 m/s" Hull Seal answered: "200 m/s, copy. I will try to catch you but Anaconda is no speedster"

Meanwhile I approached to the ship, from which turned out that is Krait Phantom. As we flew at one level, likein formation, I turned flight assist off and turned my ship's cockpit to the damaged Phantom. In my thoughts was poking around question: "How to communicate with deaf?" And then I got idea-trough lights-Morse code. It sould work.

So I started to blink with my lights message:
Rescue is here. Dont worry. I try to stop your ship
I cycled this message few times and then repositioned my ship in front of damaged Phantom's cockpit using latteral thrusters. Still FA off. I slightly slowed down to create physical contact with other Phantom and when it was succesful, I pushed throttle stick to 5% thrust position. After 30 seconds we stopped, and watched coming Anaconda. I transmitted to Anaconda: "Hull Seal, we safely slowed down to 0 m/s" In second, there was response: "Congrats CMDR Štefánik to succesful half of rescue. Now estabilish contact with damaged ship"
