Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Ah," I waved my hand slightly, "A medical treatment method. For replacing lost organs and limbs. Also used for cosmetic purposes, because of its rejuvenating effect."

The second part of her speech was more interesting, that's for sure.

"And, you know, I totally understand her," something in Kasumi's behaviour came to me as... Being childish. The direct and simplified way of saying things maybe. Shortened sentences, in contrast with my memories of 'previous' her, she was quite a long-talker. Yet I smiled in return, masking my worries. We, humans, don't know about Thargoid-induced coma and amnesia so much, maybe she's perfectly normal for her stage and just needs more time.

"Like, I remember you having... That kind of features in VR, but even there they looked a bit smaller. I also remember poking, phah. Well, not exactly you as 'you', but an inanimate copy of your body, which you used for a clothing demonstration. So, yeah. Jana should've been quite pleased with that experience."

And, to suppress the giggling that came quickly after recalling the memories, I put a hand in front of my mouth. Still, some muffled sounds got away.
26 Feb 2024, 2:29am
“She was… very excited about it. Maybe a little too much. I told her not to touch anything, but she did anyway. I let her. Because… of being a friend.”

The glyph on my hand had ‘calmed down’ again, currently being neutral in color. Which meant it was almost indistinguishable from the skin, but still visible if anyone looked closely enough, as it wasn’t quite the same color and ‘material’. I still wasn’t sure what to make of someone this tall, though - it went past what I ‘liked’, much like it somehow felt a little awkward to look at someone much smaller than me.

“That… VR thing, is how I became like this, too. I went into it after Jana gave the device to me, as the people looking after me said it could help me find my memories. It did… only a little bit. But the bigger body was nice. And then, maybe two weeks later… I was like this.”

The glyph began to glow in a more positive, vibrant green color, and I began to look a bit dreamy, thinking back at that period of time, as it had been oddly nice, despite my recovery having only started around then.
26 Feb 2024, 2:49am
"Phah... Why am I not surprised?" I chuckled imagining Jana, Kasumi and that purely childish, despite of being dedicated to adult human body parts, moment. "There's a lot to be excited about to be honest."

"And, Jana... I'd like to meet her too one day. Maybe I should invite her to the camp. She flew with us back then when we got you out," I gestured somewhere behind my back with my thumb, as 'it was in the past', "But my pilots were too exhausted to spend more time on the rescue ship, so we've had a quick refuel and patching up and headed back."

"Anyway, that's..." I nodded towards Kasumi, "...interesting indeed. Like, I understand human body shapes changing under the influence of medication, be it a side effect or not, or plastic surgeries, but... This? Did you say it just... happened?"

It was curious, indeed. But then, I also noticed the change in her voice, her face, which has become more relaxed, and that glowing Thargoid sign on her hand has also shut down at first, leaving only a mark of the same snow white colour but a different texture, and then started glowing positively-green. Whatever this thing is... It's aware of our 'common human' colour coding. She felt more comfortable now, talking about what she liked, so I made an attempt to push our conversation down these tracks.

"...and, if this happened entirely by itself, what did the doctors say?"
26 Feb 2024, 2:58am
“It was …” I thought of how to describe it, for a moment.

“It was the implant. Or, because of it, maybe. The doctors told me that, because of something strong that I felt, the implant reacted to it and made my body… do something. I don’t remember what, exactly. Maybe it was hormones, and I started to suddenly be very hungry.”

I paused to breathe a little.

“Then… this started to happen.” I pointed at my big chest with my right hand’s pointer finger. “It went to how big I was in that VR place, first, over… a week or so, maybe. Then suddenly got much bigger in the three days after that, because I was finding it so nice. I think. Maybe I told them it was the implant, because I could feel something inside me encouraging me to do this. And it also stopped when I felt that it was just getting too big to be… practical.”

I breathed deeply.

“It… never bothered me, other than it making my clothes tighter. It is just so… perfect. But the doctors were very curious, after they stopped being concerned about me changing.”
26 Feb 2024, 3:13am
"Ow. If I were a doctor, I'd be quite intrigued too. Maybe that implant of yours tried to do something good at last, as if to apologise," I shrugged slightly, unaware of how close my theory was to the truth. "I still can't understand the trick with the skin colour and why it's so white even without visible blood vessels, but... Argh. I'm not a scientist."

"But 'I found it perfect' part is something that I can understand, like, absolutely." I continued, with a smile on my face, happy both for her and for myself. At least I'm telling pieces of the truth now. "Though it wasn't something gradual happening over time, with my conscious observation. I woke up like that already, after they recovered me, a month after the explosion that had almost got me."

"And the clothes aren't something to worry about. I spent an entire evening ordering stuff. Quite liked the process actually, which was surprising. Yet I guess it was an unusual feeling, to wake up realising that your pants don't fit you anymore, phah."
26 Feb 2024, 3:23am
“I don’t know why it changed the skin either.”, I replied, shrugging. “But it doesn’t bother me much. I don’t spend a lot of time outside, so it’s fine.”

I stretched my arms and upper body a little.

“And it was… a little odd, to feel that even the things I was sleeping in were getting tighter, over the night. It always seemed to happen when I was asleep, rather than awake. I think one doctor noticed it when I got big enough, because my clothes looked tighter. Around here.”

My left hand made a curving gesture around the breast.

“I still have the old sleepwear, too. Even if I don’t wear it now. There is… quite an imprint in it. I have new clothes for everything now… like you can see.”

I threw a short look down at my current shirt and pants, which were custom-made for my current size.
26 Feb 2024, 3:31am
"It isn't only the skin, your eyes have changed too. But I guess you've noticed it already. They look like... Blue crystals, but with pupils. That's amazing if you ask me."

Anyway, we've still been talking through the doorway, even if it was open, and that wasn't a classic case of friendly reunification.

"So, may I...", I slowly gestured towards the bedroom with my hand. "I promise, I won't bump into stuff, phah."
26 Feb 2024, 3:39am
“Yes. I noticed the eyes, too. They look… nice. I like blue. It is my favorite color. I’m not sure why though, maybe there is something about them that works differently.”

I wasn’t sure about that other idea, but it seemed unavoidable.

“Okay. Fine. Come. But not too close. I don’t like very tall people that much. It is just… a little much.”
26 Feb 2024, 3:48am
"Ah, but I'm, essentially, a kitten...", I muttered jokingly, getting up and then slowly, in order not to cause any more discomfort, squeezed myself through the doorway, head and one shoulder first, then the rest of the body. Without coming any closer, I sat on the floor, leaning on the wall behind me.

"Yeah, I've got another benefit from the whole ordeal too. You may not remember it, but, well, I'm almost ten years older. Yet, phah, now I look like we're peers," I pointed a finger at my face and made a funny grin for a second.

"And what about the flying gear? Or the armour? Have you tried any of it? I guess even the piloting should feel different now, not to mention walking or running. Those g-forces are a literal pain in the arse sometimes. And it's godsdamned one point three here."
26 Feb 2024, 4:09am
"I... haven't tried to fly. Not outside of a simulator, at least. Thought I could do without the crashes, while learning that again. So I don't know how it feels. But the gear... my suits didn't fit, and I tried one. So I had them adjusted by just having the ship machine... fabricator, whatever it is, make them bigger in those areas."

I drew curves at chest and hip level, down to the knees.

"Armor... do I need to say the old one wouldn't have fit? So I decided to have a new one made, out of the same metal, and the same appearance. For the chest, as I seemed to have none for the legs. And, pistol holder... I will just use a simple, flat piece on the side of the thigh. But I can't remember if I tried the new chest piece yet. It should fit, but it is already not easy to hold a bigger weapon with two hands, because of the breast. And inflexible armor, on top of that... I need to try first."

I breathed.

"I also had to re-learn walking. Moving my legs in a wide outward angle, instead of what humans normally do. Even just walking normally, or a little faster, it already bounces. And running... I can do it for a few seconds, maybe, between how big my thighs are, and the fact that all of this bounces a lot."

I had a finger pointed at my breast during the last part of that final sentence. As though I needed to point there when speaking of the most bouncy part of the female body.
26 Feb 2024, 4:33am
"Yeah, the simulators...", my thoughts returned back to the camp for a little while, "That's why we eventually returned back to plastic boxes with seats and screens. VR sims may be super accurate but you will always keep in mind that it's your virtual avatar, not you."

"And, with VR, you can't unexpectedly appear next to them and ask them what the heck they're doing if they're doing something really dumb."

"Anyway...", my eyes followed the movements of Kasumi's finger for a little while and, most of the time, it was stopping next to her, to say, adjusted body parts. "It seems to me that you really enjoy it, phah. Must've been quite a show for anyone who saw you, and, learning to walk again in higher gravity... You have my respect for going the hard way."

"Yeah... Going," that unintentional wordplay made me giggle for a moment.

I gladly noticed her... Looking a little more relaxed, comfortable, maybe.

"So... Is this place yours? I doubt Aegis is going to 'politely ask you'," the quotation marks were also drawn in the air by my index fingers, "...to leave, but it looks like... Really yours, you know. Vibes. Not a faceless hotel room."
26 Feb 2024, 4:52am
"It is mine, yes. They gave it to me... many months ago, when I first got here, I think. So they told me, at least. But it feels nice, not too small, not too big. Maybe a little like home."

I moved my knees from left to right slightly, two or three times. Which, probably, showed those very round thighs off quite well.

"I just like how this body is. Even having to learn how to walk again... it was all worth it. And I was really slow when I started out, until I figured out a way to walk... kind of properly. My thighs still like to rub each other, because they are so big. But I wanted them this way, and ..."

I let the sentence hang in the air, thinking it didn't need to be completed. After all, I had demonstrated my enjoyment of this body... quite amply, already. And it was itself ample, too, with all of the extra mass on its certain parts.
26 Feb 2024, 6:12am
"Yeah, you in that VR thingy, especially the first times. Even how reluctant you were to kick that off, before we started. You may or may not remember it, but maybe it could help you spin your memory up a bit better..." I went into my own brain archives, my stare aimlessly wandering left to right, stopping for a moment on certain body parts I saw in mere metres in front of me.

"...that Italian cafe in Inara, when we first talked about the thing. I thought it'd be a funny little experiment, but it happened to be literally mind-blowing. That 'laughing bed' in my VR room where people tend to lose it, phah. Who'd have thought back there that we're going to end up like this."

Remembering the conversation was a bit funny even without the current circumstances.

"Like, I told you about it as of a silly joke, like I was low-key interested in trying out that VR, not that interested to go and get myself a kit right away, but your eyes just - wham! - sparkled up so brightly that I thought... Okay, we are really going this way, aren't we? Phah."

Being perfectly aware that she may not remember this day at all, absolutely, I still wanted to keep that 'two friends meet after a long time' mood of the moment, at least.

"Yeah, I also remember you telling me about that girl from the news a few times, Seo, and she lives somewhere nearby too, and you're friends. So... How did she react? On that new you? Ah dammit, don't think I'm interrogating you, I'm just insanely curious."

The last sentence was said with a comically-apologetic face, while also none less comically shrugging.
26 Feb 2024, 12:18pm
I couldn’t remember that conversation, so I chose to go into the things that I did know about.

“Seo? She… was surprised. I think. She ran up to me when I first came back and hugged me, then realized I was… different. Looking like she had trouble believing I looked like… this.”

Once again, my right hand gestured at the ‘expanded’ parts of my body, before finding its way back to the knee to form a big ball again.

“I think she likes it, but she is not as excited about it as Jana was. There were no pokes. She was just curious, and I had to tell her that it happened because of how I was in VR. But she knew I was not as ‘big’ in that.”

I looked at this woman opposite of me again. Then just as quickly back at my knees, and the thighs ‘below’, because it was just not comfortable to look at her. My brain fell into a little bit of a softer, lower tone.

“When did we meet? There was some kind of… bar, in one of the VR simulations the doctors made me try. And I saw… blurred ‘images’, of people, a little like vague human shapes with not many details visible. But I couldn’t recognize any of them. I remember that one looked like …” My right arm stretched outward, to her. “… but not so big. Most of the time, I didn’t feel anything. There was one with strange blue hair, I think, that I felt negative things for. A woman. As if I didn’t like her, but I can’t remember why.”
26 Feb 2024, 12:55pm
"And I've been surprised too, honestly," with my hand on the chest level, I pointed the index finger up into the air. "Though, seeing your... Discomfort, didn't go too far in expressing this. Anyway..."

Narrowing my eyes, I proceeded slower, almost like making my words hang in the air for a longer time.

"So... You do remember the Inara Bar... And some people around there... That's interesting."

Like, I see no harm in helping to recollect some of the non-harmful memories. So, returning to my normal voice, I completed the vague unfinished picture.

"That woman 'like me but not so big' was actually me. Before, well, one godsdamned generator explosion almost turned me into mist. And the blue-haired one is Venus, or Jenna, or whatever she wanted people to call her and she acted like an absolute arse, so no surprise you didn't like her," and a sarcastic shrug accompanied my words at these moments, "She tried to fight everyone, including me and you, right inside that very bar."

My own memories felt sluggish as well but it wasn't anything of detective level thankfully, just remembering people.

"Venus-Jenna-Whatever is actually the wife of that Silvia we both were helping, so we actually got to know each other thanks to that. There were also other folks. Like a small, slim woman who liked black clothes as much as you did... Or still do... Called Willow. Also, the barman-musician-showman, a swanky-looking blonde guy a little taller than you. Haven't heard anything from him for a long time already but that's another story... And a young detective called Adam, but we didn't interact much."

Finishing the list of people you most likely would've stumbled upon in the Inara Bar those days, I took a pause and looked at Kasumi. A bit of discomfort still etched her face, yet I threw the idea of being offended out of the proverbial window.

"I wonder what happened to the bar... The system was hit hard and the place itself had descended to madness... Might as well be absolutely desolated these days."
