Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

“I… actually bought a sleeping bag. Big sleeping bag. Or a few, when I was in the city, for when there is no gravity. And two person beds so I can roll around if I want, with a lot of pillows. But I am at least going to have a lot of space in the bag.”

I ran alongside my waist with my hands, stopping just above where the hips really began to curve out. And I felt a pinch in my stomach, suddenly.

“I might be hungry. But I don’t want to get out of the bed to make something yet. And I think there is something from the last two days in the fridge. Leftovers that I didn’t warm up yet.” I looked at Ina’s kind of oversized hands for ‘standard’ human tasks. “You can handle that, right? Or I might do it myself anyway.”
27 Feb 2024, 10:23pm
"Oh, I tried those sleeping bags... Quite a while ago. Nah. I like to toss and turn and to be, like... Laying horizontally in an environment where gravity and thus the concept of 'horizontal' exist, phah. Can't say I wasn't able to sleep when I was stationed on the carrier, but, first night in that town on the surface... Phenomenal, phah."

"And...", I noticed Kasumi looking at my hands, so I looked at them too, even turning the wrists several times, like, inspecting, "...What's about my hands? They're totally okay. Just tell me what to heat up if you want something specific."
27 Feb 2024, 10:38pm
“Well, I… do have both. A bag for no gravity, and the bed where I can sleep with gravity. I am sometimes lazy and don’t go down to a planet. Or I like to float around, maybe… with the bathroom door closed. And …”

I began to gesture at my upper body.

“I don’t know if I’d like straps up here, with… uh, both parts, so big. Anyway …”

I looked off in the direction of the living room, while audibly breathing through the nose.

“The food is in two boxes. White, I think plastic of some kind, with a transparent lid that has red… corners? Or it is at least surrounded by a red lip, maybe. It is rice and noodles in both, with meat. I’d like cream and the pack of grated cheese, too. Just… don’t break stuff. And you can take a fork and spoon out without problems?”

I assumed the microwave to re-heat it would be fine. It seemed to be made out of metal and the buttons were fairly easily actioned with a single finger, even upsized. I pointed over to the desk with the chair that had no arm rests.

“I will eat there. Keep the bed clean. The fruit juice in the fridge would be nice too.”
27 Feb 2024, 11:29pm
Having no kids doesn't equal having no 'mum mode' especially when it comes to friends recovering from near-death-something, so I replied with an old German "jawohl", got up from the floor and turned around only to realise that there was no need to stand up completely because of a doorway ahead.

Okay, not a big deal. Though, after years of using onboard or minimised kitchenettes, it was actually a strange feeling: I had to move left and right to access stuff. Not a big deal again, so, reaching the place, I started humming a melody... That was quickly interrupted by a muffled "ahgodsbloodydammit" once I realised that, reaching the kitchen furniture, I could safely operate it only facing it directly, with no room to turn because of that island behind me. Safely for the furniture, of course. Okay. Then, the second time for the melody to be interrupted, by a "dammitholycraps", happened when I figured out that I should almost sit on the floor or bend in half to see what's stored on the lower shelves of the fridge. And, I love the irony, the mentioned food containers were exactly there. The microwave was a source for a couple more "ahcomeonyoushit"s and "frigginbloodyheck"s since setting it up to approximately-okay three minutes was a success only after a few attempts to completely annihilate Kasumi's food on 23, 35 or even 63 minute-long programmes. Should've pushed the buttons with my pinky from the start. Experience. At the same time, the door signal sounded indicating that my tea had finally arrived. Two nice and cold litre bottles, placed in a container on top of a delivery robot: certainly five star quality service because those tin cans don't ask questions.

Finalising the installation made of a plate of Kasumi's rice-and-noodles, now heated up to an edible temperature, with cream and grated cheese containers placed nearby, both fork and spoon next to the plate, a box of juice and an empty glass, I finally sat on the floor, leaning on a wall, and twisted the tea bottle cap open.

"Ta-daaaam! Yeah, come in. And... yeah. My chair doesn't have armrests either, phah."
28 Feb 2024, 12:12am
Some muffled curses that were uttered repeatedly were picked up by my already sensitive - and further enhanced - hearing, making me question if I was right in my judgement that everything would be fine. Plus an inordinary amount of microwave button pushing.

"Do you need help?"

Right as I called out like that, from my lazy position on the bed, I heard the call for me to come into the living room... even though I'd said I wanted to be in here, at the desk, where I'd planned to move when I heard the microwave. I sighed.

'Do I have to?', I thought to myself, and... got up anyway.

It had to be quite a show when I came through the doorway, my hips just about fitting through there, the walk cycle quite definitely, if unintentionally, emphasizing their curvature. And there was, of course, also that always visible bouncing on my chest even when I just walked normally. Especially when, like now, I only wore a shirt above the bra.

At least there was a plate of food waiting for me. I didn't quite sit down yet and instead stopped when that odd sight of the two and a half meter giant casually drinking out of a one liter tea bottle entered my view. I gave that a bit of a funny look when I saw it, placing my right hand on the hip, and leaned in that direction slightly, too.
28 Feb 2024, 1:33am
I raised a bottle of tea to take another big gulp being still alone in the living room, but, once I lowered it, there was... quite a view in front of me.

"gulp-gulp-gulp... Ow! Ow. Yeah, now, I, kind of... Understand. Everything. Yeah, everything."

"Khm-khm... Yep. That's closer to that... Ah, you may not remember... That photo Jana took whilst I've been waiting for you two on the rooftop, in VR-space", I added after a bit of a dramatic pause that perfectly emphasised that 'understanding everything' moment.

"Anyway, this is your stuff", I nodded towards the table, "And, thankfully, the delivery service uses box-on-wheels robots. At least today."

There was almost nothing left in my tea bottle at the moment, so I finished it instantly and took the second one which I had stored in the side-pocket of my cargo trousers. Opening it up, I paused for a moment and showed Kasumi the bottle.

"The Dark Side of Tea. At least as I call it. Black, strong, ice cold, no milk and no sugar. Totally like it. What had made some of those snobs totally hate me, phah."
28 Feb 2024, 1:42am
“I prefer mine hot, with sugar.”, I replied. “And I can’t remember much about that rooftop… thing. Or what happened before it. Just that being there felt nice and relaxing, when I revisited it.”

I paused for a moment, just in front of one of the rotating seats under the ‘island’. The one that was appropriately lowered to account for the extra ‘mass’ keeping me lifted, while seated.

“She also shared no pictures about that.”

I sat down, the chair creaking a bit when it began to take my weight. It was, technically, soft, but with all the fat on my hips, I couldn’t really tell the difference any longer. I did still notice it spreading to the sides a bit thanks to gravity.

I separated the rice from the noodles, and… decided to go over the rice first, pouring a decent amount of cream over it and mixing it, then the grated cheese in generous enough quantities, but not enough that it washed out the taste of the meat or anything else. Then I began to, not too quickly, but also not slowly, devour what could just as well have been a portion for two people.
28 Feb 2024, 2:15am
"Oh, you two did some weird stuff there, phah," I chuckled and took a pause to have another gulp of tea. "Like, that was my silly dreamy idea, to get to the roof of the last multi-storey building on the edge of the town, to watch the sunset. Near the riverbank, with the breeze. Ain't I romantic? Phah."

"Like, that's VR, we could've just teleported ourselves there, or spawned a hundred-storey skyscraper next to it, but argh. That's for wussies who have no idea neither of mood of the moment, nor of that... spirit. That makes you crawl up the emergency stairs or smash the roof access lock just because you want to have a nice time sitting there, exactly there, not those bland 'public access' places full of idiots and ads for idiots."

"So, I took the emergency stairs because, well, I have some issues with stairways. You two went inside. And, while you've been there, you did your favourite joke on each other and then took some camera shots. Maybe Jana had secretly saved them somewhere, I've no idea, phah."

Remembering that made me close my eyes and giggle for a little bit.

"Ah, you two... Sometimes you're unbearably adorable kind of wacky. So, then the nice and relaxing part started, we sat there, looking at the sun, even if it wasn't real... It felt real. Maybe that was the 'strongest' part so you still remember pieces of it."
28 Feb 2024, 3:06am
“Maybe …”

My tone was partially absent, as I went searching for… memories, kind of spinning the fork around in that thoughtful manner. Something more related to this. There wasn’t much, but one thing…

“I… don’t think I agreed. To whatever happened in the staircase. It feels like that. And maybe I don’t remember, but… I can imagine. Or you could tell me?”

There was definitely a suggestion within that question. It was up to her to engage with it. After another mouthful or two of rice, I added something else.

“And I thought, people used to hate that walking everywhere in games, instead of… ‘teleporting’ around.”

The current layer of cheese was gone from the rice, so I sprinkled extra on it.
28 Feb 2024, 3:36am
"Ah, people...", I waved my hand dismissively, even being aware that Kasumi couldn't see me, if only by a tiny fraction of her peripheral vision. "They really don't know what they want. Like that game where you have some super advanced ships that could jump to another galaxy and you live in the 47th century. Bwah-bwah-bwaaaah!", I switched to a quite comedical, mocking voice, "we want a realistic game! Waaah!"

"Okay, now imagine, you have to board your ship through the airlock and perform pre-flight checks and your engines should go fifteen minutes long warmup or that 'jump inside, full thrust, nose up' kind of takeoff would tear them to bits. Nwaaah! Naaaah! Not that wealiswm! I want to tewepowt into the cockpit fwom by bedwoom! I don't want to cwick so many buttons to stawt the engiwne! Bwwaaah!... Morons."

"So it's all about impressions. First, you soak in that great feeling of something new. You learn about that new imaginary world developers had made. Then, it becomes easier. And, finally, you start to hunt numbers, to get plus one per cent here, plus five there... So, no wonder people want to get straight to it, without everything they call time waste. Like, in reality, we have to go to our ships and push the buttons to activate stuff. I also have to fill some documents, like, who flies with me, what ships and loadouts are being used, what's our objective and where's our destination, all that mess, but it really helps to figure out what to do if things go shit way sometimes. But, in games, many elements are simplified. Sometimes too much. For my taste. It has its upsides too, like, that game where you control a ground assault vehicle, they are meant to have a crew of... two to six, seven people maybe. But it's a game, so you do the main interesting stuff like driving and shooting, and everything else happens, like, by itself."

"And, what happened on that staircase... I wasn't there, but, from what I know, like, phah... Jokes like that are most funny when they have... An element of surprise. So, she upscaled your interesting parts to something maybe even bigger than what you have now, and took some photos of it. And yeah, your belt cracked. Like, totally. Phah. Then, you two joined me on the rooftop and she showed me the photos. Considering that you aren't angry at her, I guess you weren't so upset by that... Occasion, either."

"Ah, the tea... Truly a blessing. *gulp-gulp-gulp*"

The pile of rice was beginning to look a bit thin after that monologue concluded, and I scooped up the last bits of it with the spoon to clean up… at least that side of the plate. Unfortunately, the noodles had gone lukewarm, or cold, already. And I kind of really didn’t like them cold. I turned my attention away from that food momentarily as a result.

“I’m… not sure I would have been too happy if it was even bigger than this. Maybe, as a weird, temporary thing to do for… fun. But not permanently. It is already really difficult to do anything other than walk normally, because of the thighs.”

I picked up the plate and got off the chair, which almost sighed in relief, then placed that other portion of food back in the microwave.

“It would have been better to leave in the box after heating it. Or maybe just do one first and then the second.”
28 Feb 2024, 4:10am
"Phah, sorry. Maybe I've overestimated your rate of moving food from the plate into yourself."

I closed the half-finished tea bottle, put it back into the side pocket and stood up slowly to take a few absent-minded steps back and forth while stretching out my arms to the sides, like, I've been sitting on the hard floor all the time.

"You know what... What happened to you isn't the worst thing... In a way... Like, you're here, you're alive, you aren't controlled or something else... I remember thinking of what might've happened to you in that stupid pod when we flew back to the Cavell... The rescue megaship we took all the pods to. So... In general, I have lots of stuff in my head that I'd like to absolutely forget but it doesn't work that way, you don't have a magical eraser for the memories and they're no computer to hit that delete button."

Standing still for a moment with my head lowered and my hand uncontrollably running through the hair and scratching, I composed the ending of the phrase I wanted to say.

"Still a lot of shit though. I'd be happy if that didn't happen to you at all. Just those body alterations if you like them. Like, you know, I'm worried. You're the same person I knew, but, at the same time, not exactly. Something is missing or it doesn't work... Maybe, doesn't work yet. However, you know it better than me, I'd just say that I wish you to win that brain battle. I'd like to help with anything, but I don't exactly know where to start."

"Pfffffff... That's deep," I emitted a long exhale, leant on an empty section of a wall and slowly slid down, sitting on the floor again.
28 Feb 2024, 4:26am
“I… don’t know where I would start either. Maybe I just… have to go to places that look interesting, and maybe it is something I have visited before. But Seo gave me… some other things to look into. I’m not sure for who they are important, but I will look there, too.”

I looked down at my body, in a demonstrative way.

“I would have preferred to… not have this Thargoid thing. But it is not going now. I think I asked, and the doctors said they can’t remove it. I’m not sure… I could go back to ‘normal’, even if they could. Because of how much was changed. And, this …” I left my left arm dangle, at an appropriate angle to be alongside the hip, while the right hand placed itself on the hip on that side. “… is something I would keep, I think. Maybe less big, if my brain had worked better, but… it’s so nice now. I don’t want to change it.”

The microwave gave off a ‘ping’ to indicate it was done running. I looked at my thighs, as well as I could past my breast.

“I could probably eat on those. But …”

I took the plate out and returned to my seating spot. If Ina hadn’t yet gotten a good view of my backside and just how sizeable it was, she definitely, or probably, had at this point. As I began to eat the noodles, I did get one idea.

“Maybe… you could tell me about this ‘Silvia’.”
28 Feb 2024, 5:21am
"Phah, totally understand you. I'm not going back to the doc saying "shrink me" either. Even if that was possible somehow," making a goofiest grin possible, I sarcastically shrugged.

"And that Thargoid thing of yours... You'd shown me your medi-scans, before, and, I'm no doctor except some first aid things I have to know... But that looked quite extensive already. If that thing is what keeps you from dropping dead right now, then it should've really hit that pedal hard when you were locked up in the pod. So far that maybe it has gone into your thoughts and read that you like to be like that... Somehow."

"And, as for Silvia..." my gaze wandered aimlessly to the side as I recollected my own memories, "An odd girl if you ask me. Haven't heard from her for a long time too... Loves exploration and biology, from what she said... And had been absolutely smashed by grief thinking that her wife, that blue-haired loose cannon, was dead, but she wasn't, she faked it. So she was wandering around, even worked a few shifts as a bartender in that godforsaken Inara Bar, suddenly bursting into tears sometimes and overworking herself to literally fainting out once. She also had... Has... A pet fox-like creature stuffed with experimental bio-tech Azimuth really wanted to have for their insanity."

"Now, the interesting part," I raised my index finger, stressing these words out, "That her wife, Jenna-Venus-Whatever, has been alive all that time and seen in the same bar but they never crossed paths there. Jenna had to fake her own death because those Imperial pricks did some kind of a dirty play with her and subjecting the person who loved her to grief was, apparently, the best method to get off their proverbial sensors. Brilliant. Ten out of ten." I made a few slow ironic hand claps here, "Then the Azimuth showed up. Why it's always the fuckin' Azimuth? So, they contracted a slaver group led by a prick named Marcus Diaz to capture both Silvia and her pet, but what they didn't know is that Jenna wasn't actually dead, and she had a knack at getting to know things other people wanted to hide."

"Selfish or not, loose cannon or not, that time she diverted her potential onto getting Silvia out of their cage, thus finally making a confession about her own faked death, and deleting Diaz in the process, along with his carrier he kept Silvia on. So she needed as much support as she could possibly get, and, you and Silvia were friends those days since she helped you once with one big problem... And also, both of them, kind of, knew me. Your tricks on that hell of a shitshow of a misadventure were two things. First, the sniper rifle. Second, your ability to somehow attract a massive wave of Thargoids but without them attacking us, so that the carrier defence fleet had something to get their arses handed to them. And, me... Some infantry tactics knowledge and a big gun to physically remove people from existence, along with the shit they try to use as a cover. There was also some Imperial officer and his platoon of quite good soldiers."

"So we got her out of that mess and had a hell of a battle against Diaz himself, full of metal cybernetic parts, and his elite troops. After punching through like two hundreds of his shit troops. And, you did an amazing job there and actually killed the big bastard, or at least played a major role in killing him. While I've been leading the commandos and we had a little defence pocket to make sure none of Diaz's thugs get to you, and there was a friggin lot of these buggers. 'Was' is a key word here. But you did help me out too, tipping the scales by running into the thick with a machinegun. I had, like, six soldiers remaining, almost out of ammo, against like fifteen of those shits, and your appearance had created enough chaos for me to take off and charge, so we finished them off."

"So, that's the story about Silvia and how you got to know her, and how we got to know each other as well. Then I heard you'd thrown a celebration party in the same Inara Bar that was also a farewell party since those two, Silvia and Jenna-Venus-Whatever, were planning to leave the fuss behind and go into the deep space exploring stuff. I haven't been there, I've been super tired hugging a pillow."

"Maybe that isn't that much about Silvia herself, but I don't know much about her as a person either. So, recollection of events we've been through, which involved her."

“Oh. That is… a lot.”

My brain definitely felt a little overwhelmed at that big info dump, and probably would have been even if it was perfectly functional. The implant, while it seemed like it could cover that function to a higher degree than a regular organic brain would’ve, just… didn’t.

Most likely on purpose - getting exposed to the kind of information intake it was probably designed for, given that it was connected to an entire species all linked together, would be… bad, at best, in my current state. Considering that I also couldn’t find anything about it ever going into ‘full power’ mode, the damage to my brain that it was still trying to fix probably prevented it from doing so even before I was near death a second time.

“Where could I …” About half a glass of red fruit mix disappeared in my throat. “… meet her? If I wanted to. And she doesn’t just run away.”

I tried to pour more fruit juice out, only to find it was empty.

“Aw. Already?” I gave Ina a pleading look. “Could you… maybe?”

I dove the spoon into the noodles instead, from which it emerged with a big piece of chicken escalope surrounded by macaroni and the cheese that was on top of it all. If it was just to demonstrate I had the important business of stuffing myself with food to attend to, and wasn’t lazy while not wanting to bump this big rear around the kitchen area. Or, at least, not just lazy, which being such a big soft ball - both inside and outside, now - had the tendency to make me.
